I got this message today when I opened Facebook. Can anyone please explain to me what this is and will it make a difference to my computer if I don't do anything about it? I assume it has nothing to do with playing games since they are downloaded onto my computer and not dealing with Chrome at all after the download.

What's happening is there's a bunch of old code still in use from years ago that was never very secure. In the past year or so there have been some major headaches patching & re-doing code because of exploits targeting that old programming. This old plug-in architecture was/is one of those ancient artifacts that never should have lived this long, so Google is trying to help kill it off. AFAIK the only major plug-in effected was/is Java, which gathered quite a bad security rep, in no small part because most all users never kept their installed version of Java current.

Thanks mikiem2. I recently installed Java via Windows Explorer but ever since then I get messages on Chrome saying a program may be slowing down my Chrome (even though I didn't install it via Chrome). I ran the software removal tool but it doesn't tell you which program it wants to uninstall so I didn't want to take a chance.
