I tried commenting on the downloads page, twice, but it seems to disappear - don't see anything about awaiting a mod... DK why, so I'm posting it here.

Don't usually comment but noticed some confusion...
Think of Multiset as a specialized macro recorder/player. It does NOT backup
your current system! It remembers and replays what you did when you installed
apps. (OK, it's a little different for installing the OS, but that's a good
model for what it does.)
Multiset can help automate re-installing Windows and/or some applications. It
won't help you with most GOTD giveaways after the giveaway ends. nLite can also automate re-installing Windows and/or
some applications, as well as slimming/customizing/improving your Windows
installation. (There are 100's of user-supplied install packs for RyanVM and
nLite, mostly freeware and portable apps; you can roll your own if you pass
the learning curve.)
Neither will 'back up' your existing system or apps. For that you need an
imager, something like Norton Ghost.
Multiset can make a copy of an application's install package - if the
original filled a CD or DVD, so would that copy. But most apps are much
smaller so you can fit many on a disk. Some apps are tricky and check the
CD title, paths etc. - those wouldn't work out of the box (though again,
there might be workarounds).
Multiset is much easier for 'roll your own' app installs since it just watches
and records what you do. While a general macro recorder/player might be more
powerful, Multiset gives you a GUI to work thru, focused on just this task.
And Multiset well let you burn an autostart or bootable CD with your apps and
the player+GUI, from which you can menu-select apps.
So you can burn a backup of your prized apps complete with an autoinstall GUI,
which can be used even if your original copy (e.g. on your HD) gets trashed, and
even if you lose Multiset - the player is on the new CD. (Of course you could
probably download it from the web and use it for 30 days. But the point is, in
losing Multiset you would at most lose the macro-recorder etc., NOT your apps.)
nLite had a small net2 runtime library for those who didn't want to take a
chance or didn't like the bloat, don't know if it is still on the site. Last time
I looked there was a note that the author wasn't sure whether MS would allow
re-distribution (this was just after SP3 came out) so I just used an older copy
of that runtime, but it may be back or you may be able to search it out.
Warning: Multiset had a note about needing to change the path to the install
executable if you copy it to a CD... If so, ALMEZA this should be automated when
you tell Multiset to create a CD image.
I probably won't use this... I don't like turning off firewall/antivirus/UAC
etc... (but you do need to turn it off because something will pop up to warn you
that you said to install software!-). It's difficult to edit the recorded scripts
because it isn't always clear which window took which click etc.. ALMEZA could
probably improve this... Didn't see step/debug option but maybe I was just rushed.
BTW Multiset's help did say it had the ability to store multiple keys (ie for
multiple computer installs, e.g. for MS office, could store the license keys for
say 10 installs).
