Introduction:
Today’s game ‘Race of the lost Roads download size is 27.4Mb in size, and once installed is 43.9Mb. There’s no desktop shortcut created so you’ll need to make a not of where the game is installed. For me it installed to E:\Games\ which was the last download location I used. It appears to use the last installation path, so unless you like arranging your games into genres, the default installation path will be the same as yesterdays which was C:\Games\
Unfortunately there seems to be no home page for Fly Games, so I couldn’t check the developers stable of games to see what to expect; though we have been given fly games previously, for example Rubicon and Easy Checkers from March. In fact I think that was the last game we got when the game giveaway was a daily giveaway.
The Game:
Today’s game is a third person racer, with 17 race tracks and a selection of 10 teams each with a different style of motor vehicle to race. You can also choose from several pilots. Though I don’t think there are any differences in behavior when using any of the pilots, nor is there any difference in speed or performance by choosing one of the different race cars. There are two modes of play Championship and single race. All the tracks are available if you wish to race a single race. Playing in the championship race you have to play the races in a particular order.
The game is fully keyboard controlled, though to scroll through the different teams, tracks and pilots you do use the mouse. Menu selections are also mouse controlled, though anything in game, including the pause menu (accessible via the Esc key) are keyboard controlled. To move your vehicle or stop you use the arrow/cursor keys. Both the keypad and number pad arrows are functional. To use the handbrake (for sharp turns) use space bar and to select various camera angles F1 to F7. You can boost your cars speed by using the Tab key.
The options menu enables you to control various aspects of the game including graphical quality (Gamma correction and screen resolution) You can also set it for maximum speed which is ideal for older computers or maximum quality for faster machines; plus the usual sound and music sliders and sound.

Music:
If you wish to change the in game music it’s quite easy to do so. There’s no converter needed either assuming you use MP3’s.here’s two music tracks one for the introduction and one for in game. You can find these files by following the path below; assuming that you’ve installed your game into a games folder found in the programs folder. You’ll need to rename the music you decide to use to the same names as those used:
C:\Program Files\games\Race of the lost roads\sounds\mp3\
Conclusion:
This is a basic racing game with some very basic customization; though not like what you get in the latest racers where you can change various parts of your cars to improve performance. There are quite a few race tracks to choose from, though after trying several I found it hard to distinguish between any one as they all appeared the same to me. (You may need to adjust the gamma correction {brightness} via the preferences menu, because I personally found the tracks a little dark when I first started to play). Then I’m spoiled by games such as Colin McRae’s Dirt, Need for Speed Carbon and Pro Street, as well as other smash em up racers such as Flatout Ultimate Carnage and Crash days as well as easy going games such as Test Drive unlimited, GTR2 and Race 07, all of which have superb graphics and much more realism that today’s arcade game. There’s also the grand theft auto series and games such as Midtown Madness (I & II) that take a more cartoon direction. All of which are really fun to play. You can pick up older Need for Speed games and Colin McRae rally games for around $10 in the bargain bins at your local superstores if you want to upgrade from the graphics and drab game play offered in this game.
As arcade games go it’s okay though. There are several of this genre freely available from Gametop, which I’ve listed below. I’d say that this is comparable in game play to any one of those, so would give this a 7 out of 10. Although judging from the response over in the comments section it's probably worth less than 5 out of 10:

Unfortunately I was unable to capture a video sequence for this game. The same problem as yesterday occurred. That is the graphics kept disappearing, so you’d see half of the desktop and part of the game at some points. Hopefully I’ll have better luck next weekend.

You can also get the first two Grand Theft Auto games for free (abandonware) from the following address. Though the one I’ve supplied requires you to download gameshadow. A games manager that ensures your games are the latest versions. If you don’t want to install gameshadow, just Google Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 (or 2), also try the home of GTA: Rockstar games. You used to be able to download the abandonware directly from their site, though a quick glance over I was unable to find the links:

I’ve already given away a few of my DVD based games, but I still have several that I’m looking to throw out as I never play them now. They are all over 5 years old, but they are much better than today’s game. So if you fancy any one of them; contact me via the administrators. (You have to send a private message to them via the link below your name once you’ve registered in the forums). You’ll have to register over on the forums to do this though. I have the following games to give away (no obligations whatsoever):
Motoracer 3 Gold Edition (2006)
Colin McRae Rally (1998)
Midtown Madness 2 (2001)
Midtown Madness (1999)
London Racer (2000?)
Motocross Mania (2000)
Super Taxi Driver (1999?)
Screamer 4x4 (2000)
p.s.
I'd forgotten about the Wheeled Games thread where you'll find links to lots of other racing games apart from the ones I've already posted in my review above:

Some of the links may no longer function because I posted them seven months ago.
