yep. got the comic book and found out it's a beta (despite testing on lots of pages- none password protected- what happened to the cache?) and win2k users need not apply.
xp-vista only.
Downloaded it, tried it and reverted back to my usual browser; though it does have some interesting features. I've not actually deleted it, just place the icon to access it in my utilites folder, so if I want to experience a minimalistic web browser I'll go into my utilities folder and search it out, lol.

Google’s shiny new Web browser is vulnerable to a carpet-bombing vulnerability that could expose Windows users to malicious hacker attacks.
Google said it used components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox to build the browser and plans to open-source all the code.

Before Google made it official, Philipp Lenssen wrote to tell us about a comic book he received that has very detailed information about a new product set to be launched tomorrow — Chrome.
My advice is read the EULA very carefully. They've already had to change one provision that would have given Google rights to anything you published on the web using the Chrome browser. That objectionable item has been removed, but the still reserve the right to force updates without your approval. Not to mention it's still in beta form with a few bugs and few features. I will be giving this a pass.
It's a neat toy, but it is very minimalist. Once they get the security holes patched I can see some use for it as a pseudo email/word processor client as it interfaces with google docs and gmail quite well.
at the moment it lacks the extendability that most browsers have, although I am sure that is on the horizon. In my admittedly brief tests it is substantially faster than firefox or ie, though opera is at least it's equal there. One feature I do really really like is the task manager that allows you to kill tabs that aren't responding.
Yes! Google started a web broswer. I knew that the day it came out, and was disapointed. So far...Firefox beats 'em all.
Google Chrome's good, but I think it'll take some time before they're up there with the pros.
Another viewpoint - food for thought
Google chrome is worse than safari.
It's horrid.
One good thing about Chrome is the way it handles JS (JavaScript). I am told that because it handles JS differently then most browsers sites or pages that use a lot of JS work much faster in Chrome. I have not tried it yet but Chrome is supposed to make Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets work much much faster. This would be nice since they are pretty poky even is FireFox.
Featureless minimally configurable piece of junk. I've tried 'em all, and this one is the first one that was almost as bad as Safari. But then, I'm an ole fogey. Hate tabbed browsing, and hate even more browsers that invade my screenspace with lines of non-removeable junk I won't ever use. (That killed IE7 for me). Would consider FF if there was a way to get my 5-button mouse to fully work in it. Otherwise, guess I"m stuck with the IE6 and enough bolt-on security programs to keep it running. Sigh..
consider this though. Google provides a large portion of firefox funding. Google also employs several former and current members of the firefox team. Now the contract that Google had with Mozilla is up in 2011, so maybe there is more to this than one would think.
Will Google continue contracts with Mozilla, or will they move the development team of FF to work on Chrome considering several are already Google Employees (including the former lead engineer)?
Just some food for thought.
PS, and yes Chrome is featureless, but it works superbly well as a mail client, or as a client for using any of google's services (calendar, docs, notebook, etc). The spartan nature is kind of the point in an open source release. Give people a blank canvas, and they can paint anything.
Firefox was hated at first too!
Chrome will get better.
chrome was built using Safari WebKit & Firefox...but their options menu seems to be missing alot of things firefox has...
anyway, should you have multiple displays or extend your desktop screen, chrome allows you to drag a tab out and place it onto another window. firefox & IE7 still lacks this feature.
I downloaded Chrome, and it isnt that bad, I like it, though it is still new and some web pages still dont support it!
So far, the only gripe I've had with Chrome is the fact that hotmail didn't quite work the same. Microsoft has fixed this, and now I have no complaints. Chrome is now my browser of choice. It works twice as fast as firefox, and 10x's as fast as IE. The thing to remember about Chrome is that it is still in first beta. All browsers are minimalistic in first beta, even in second. Also, it is a brand new browser straight out of the gate. It's not going to have all of the options available like the ones who have been around for years. I remember Firefox not having all of the options that it now has either. Besides, the thing that makes Firefox so appealing (other than speed) is how easily it is to configure and add onto it. Google has already announced that there will be add-on support. Chrome also has some features that Firefox doesn't have. Overall, as far as beta's go, I'm overly impressed with Chrome. I can't wait until the final build.

AH
Google chrome now out of Beta...this is remarkable quick (100 days) for them considering GMail is still in Beta (4 years after launch)and Picassa (aquired by Google July 2004)only recently dropping its Beta status
For some companies "Beta" is more of a marketing technique than an engineering concept.
I have an old Compaq Deskpro which used to have Windows ME but has been upgraded to XP. I have the following internet browsers installed on my system and I have listed them in the order of most favorite to least.
1. Internet Explorer
2. Firefox
3. Safari
4. Opera
5. Chrome
Internet Explorer used to be one of my most hated. It used to freeze all the time and I would ALWAYS get a Error say, "IE has encountered a problem with Flash 9E.ocx". But ever since I've upgraded my flashplayer to version 10, Internet Explorer has been running very smoothly for me. To the date I've upgraded my flash player it has NEVER crashed at all. It also seems to be faster for some reason.
Firefox is my second favorite because of all it's features you can customize. I enjoy all the add-ons and it's speed is right up there with Internet Explorer. The only problem is that the more add-ons you have, the more it slows down the browser.
Safari takes forever to start up for me but it runs and loads every page pretty fast. I rarely use it but it's good to have I guess. It's basically an average browser with few features to me.
Opera is not my friend. It doesn't really run all that fast for me and it doesn't read pages the way it should. I have it for testing purposes but I never use it.
Chrome is my most hated. I haven't tried the new "Official 1.0 Version" yet but I tried it back in beta. It was VERY fast for me which I liked but it was horrible at reading pages. Every page I looked at using it seemed "Messed Up". Even on Google itself, the navbar was messed up and completely vertical. But like I said they could have changed this since then but I have enough browsers and don't need another one on my system. I only have about 800 MB left on my system, lol.
So anyway, these are just my opinions and experiences. Don't take what I say as the standard here. I know many people hate Internet Explorer but it has run great for me. At the same time, I still agree that Firefox is a great browser as well. As for the rest, I didn't like them. Safari was just average and it got worst with Opera and Chrome. But maybe this has helped someone get a better understanding of the browser market.
Regards, Chip
I've been using Mozilla's new Minefield. Its pre-beta but its fast. It should be released soon in a beta form.
FF 3.1 is in beta, not pre-beta. It's in Beta 2 now.
For me # 1, Firefox 3.4 # 2, Opera # 4,Internet Explorer 6 as 7 not good for XP
Now Try all fit USB to Harddisk that is Firefox USB and Opera USB Firefox for the add ons and Opera for WEB Mail
I use it on my netbook that has a small screen, when you have a small screen in a netbook the more webpage you can see in your browser the better. Check out my custom made google chrome browser theme if your interested.

Chrome is a sweet browser, there is nothing wrong with it, i have found a few holes with some things (text input boxes mainly) but i like it better than firefox and IE (definately better than IE)
Care to elaborate about exactly what (features etc?) that you like about Chrome over IE and Firefox? I'm sure people would relate more to a recommendation if you could tie it down to specifics. :)
Netscape Navigator 9, a stripped down version of firefox works great for me..
Yeah, I am just not that into it yet. I still prefer Firefox!
Now I try Google's Chrome it's fast but went back to firefox need the addons all so did a scan with a-squared it said spyware

Solution
During install, simply don't click the checkmark under the TOS that states "Optional: Help make Chrome better by automatically sending usage statistics and crash reports to Google."
I did not click sending usage statistics a-squared take out the updater don't need.
As I said in your other post....this is missing 1 key element of spyware. It lets you choose whether you want it to or not...and I seriously doubt that Firefox could ever be as fast as chrome.
