   Microsoft has been granted a patent on 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' keystrokes.

   The software giant applied for the patent in 2005, and was granted it on August 19, 2008. US patent number 7,415,666

   this is ridiculous.
   with known prior work on similar things, it never should have been granted such a patent.
   i guess the big guys allways win...

   Those MSFT patent attorneys may think they've tapped into a new source of revenue, but they'll have to go through me! I hereby stake a claim to air and mineral rights for the space above and below each key. MSFT will have to file a fingerflightplan, acquire a VISA and Passport, and purchase a per click permit for any Win user to hover over or land on any button. This claim extends to virtual keyboards, mouseover buttons, image maps, touchscreens, fingertip and stick styluses, and cellphones/PDAs/iPod-thingies. Can't include voice commands cause that's been taken. As a courtesy, special bulk permits are available to office cleaning companies. Cats in the home are exempt, because it's just plain unenforceable. They walk across keyboards when you're not looking and don't feel they need no steenking permit.

    nothing new for them....they are currently trying to basically bribe their way into controlling the standards for "office" (not necessarily related to MS office) documents, and I found this link the other day.
