Please, o please, will someone with a kind heart please send me the registration key for [do not ask for serial numbers to be posted or sent]. Soometimes in the read me file, the information is there and sometimes not. When its not, I don't worry about it and uninstall the program. But I'm doing a slideshow of my beloved late Mother's life and the pictures from the 30's and 40's are in pretty bad shape. I'm hoping the the program Better JPEG can help clean up these photos. [edited - do not request serial numbers]
Thanks so much for anyones help, I truly appreciate it.

Anya, I appreciate your plight, but even if someone were to send you the registration key for either of those programs, they wouldn't work. The activation is ONLY good for the day it was downloaded from GOTD. Plus on Better Jpeg, there isn't any 'key', only shows it's registered to Giveawayoftheday on my copy.
Might I suggest you send the publishers of the programs an email and see if they can help you. http://www.betterjpeg.com/

Anya, you should look in gotd archives for a software called image mender.
http://www.phibit.com/imender/Maybe it could help you to improve old digitalized pictures.
Anyway, I don't see how betterJPG could do so... (as far as I understand, it is not its purpose)

Image mender was given away on 5/17/08, and yes, FranckW, I was checking Better Jpeg out just now, and I don't see how that's going to help Anya either.

for noise, try the freeware (they call it a demo) of Neat Image.
take a look at Restoration of Genealogy Photos over at scantips- the GIMP, GIMPshop, PhotoFiltre, Irfanview or even XNView can do stuff like this (free!) if you don't have Photoshop.
you can find these and many more in the freewarefiles sections Graphics-Digital Photo Tools and Graphics-Editors.
there's the about.com section on Digital Editing & Restoration - How to Restore Old Photos
there is no magic bullet for old photos, it takes the human touch to really improve results.

May I suggest “Asclepius”. They offer a revolutionary new way of digital photo enhancement. That’s perfect for the types of pictures you’re dealing with. With just a few clicks you can turn your photos into stunning professional quality works. Unlike other photo enhancement software in the industry that uses conventional histogram base correction methods, Asclepius uses a unique method that streamlines the process of brightening, sharpening and contrast enhancement into simple, easy to use controls. Asclepius also provides one of the best red-eye correction in the industry. You can also attach audio clips of your own voice into the pictures and make your slide show more lively and memorable. Oh I almost forgot to mention, it’s free!
My hopes it works out for you - The Renegade

Your very welcome goodgotd and I’m glad to hear that! From reading other forum posts, you’ve left me with the impression that you’re an aficionado with this sort of thing. Speaking of which, my reply to “Flash Slideshow Software” may also be of interest to you and Anya.

more a seriously interested amateur in photography- I used to (well, still do, especially with sound and motion recording- don't have to carry a microcorder anymore) use digisnaps as memory aids more than 'ooh, pretty'- I just feel pretty is more orth snapping now...
the computing end is more my original spec- but can't program anymore and too clumsy to do other people's hardware.
I've got photoscape- not the first tool I reach for, but then, neither is photoshop/ partly depends on which computer I'm feeling up to working with. a p3 laptop is kinda slow for much past basic tasks- sort of a 'smarter terminal' for the LAN. view, crop & rotate- for more I go to the Athlon 2800+.
Anya, Tidy Start Menu v 3.4 is at least a partial replacement for Easy Start Menu Organizer. there are undoubtably others.
