There's been a lot of griping lately about the quality of programs offered on the Giveawayoftheday website. I've shared some of the same feelings. But, as I look back I see I have downloaded some very good programs. A recent offering, WireKeys, has turned out to be another jewel for me.

The Giveawayoftheday website has some competition. Sometimes offerings on the other giveaway websites are quite good and do not parallel the offerings on the Giveawayoftheday website. And as most of you probably have noticed, at other times the same offering appears just a day or two before or after the offering appears on the GOTD website.

Regardless of what my schedule for the day is, I usually check the Giveawayoftheday website and one or two of the other giveaway sites before I start working.

softwareaday is not free. It is a "discount" software site.

The darn GOTD website killed my post. That behaviour needs to stop and I mean stop now.

The first site is the big one. This is going to keep you busy for a few minutes. "Download Junkie" ( http://www.vnunet.com/downloads/ ).

I will give you another one or two but if the GOTD server kills my post the URLs will not all be together.

"Free Download a Day" is about the same or a little higher quality (more often) as GOTD. Try http://www.freedownloadaday.com/

I separated this one out because they give a big DISCOUNT on quality software, GOTD advertises on this website, and the quality of software can be very high quality. "Free Downloads Center" is not always free - but it is worth checking out

If I give away everything at one time you won't keep coming back. Many out of the rest of the collection don't limit the free stuff to a daily time frame.

Quality varies quite a bit in my most humble opinion - this gal has a free daily give away offering and a club offering for those wishing to pay for following the self-proclaimed goddess of the something or other. You all tell Kim I sent you and she owes me another kiss.

Bigun you gave us some nice and well known freeware sites; BTW WOT defines "freedownloadcenter" as deep red. GOTD and GGOTD gives software and games away, you otherwise have to pay for. The Giveawayoftheday giveaways are giveaways and not FREEEware.

Kim Komando also has great tips each day. I've subscribed to her newsletters for several years now, as well as hearing her radio show if we happen to be out and about in the car. Never think to turn on a radio in the house anymore!

Bigun these sites that you're refering to are very interesting and certainly worth bookmarking. However I have to agree with graylox, the GAOTD giveaways are fully licensed products that otherwise would have to be paid for.

copmom, my place is dug into the side of a big hill, radio (even cell phones) are useless. grr.

gotta admit freedownloadcenter is a site I approach with shields up and feelers out as far as when I do scouting expeditions on the Dark Side of the 'net. but they sometimes have pointers to stuff hard to find elsewhere- which is why I do recon sweeps both light and dark.

http://www.freewarefiles.com/search.php?option=mostrecent is where I keep track of day-to-day freeware since nonags changed format.

thenameipicke, http://www.softwareaday.com is a discount-for-a-day site, not freeware or giveaway.

and download junkie is another mixed site- free mixed with trial and demo, like softpile IIRC.

I got people thinking. NO ONE mentioned Download Junkie the biggest free and licensed giveaway of them all. I caught Acronis Disk Manager there not too long ago. I am almost positive that I downloaded Acronis True Image from them in the last year or so. I ended up buying a newer version of True Image when it came out so the old ones is gone and I can't check on it.

You are not likely to find what you are longing for in licensed and boxed software the first time or two that you try a giveaway site - but I have hit some big ones on my first visit to some of them.

I will keep the rest to myself if you won't brag about what I have already thrown you.

Hey, Bigun, thanks for mentioning DJ, but boy, did you have me on a wild goose chase with the understandable URL misspelling! I googled for "Download Junkie" and ended up in this backwater site Download JunkIE. After questioning your sanity for the glowing recommendation you'd given it, I reGoogled and discovered Download JunkY. Ahhhh, much much better! :-) Guess the latter couldn't afford to buy the properly spelled domain off the former, so both are using the proper title on their sites and throwing Google's spiders off.

Hmmmm, Johnny Appleseed's tugging my sleeve. Wants me to dibble a gem he's been holding for some time - Seth Rosenblatt's Daily Download. It is a great daily source of freeware, and Johnny claims it hasn't been posted here before. (that's hard to believe... I think he's been hitting the sauce again)

I'm pretty sure Megaleecher has also been mentioned before, but what the heck, I won't be here if someone points that out. Besides, it can easily be mistaken for megaLECHER, and we all know I have a "reputation" to maintain.

I should have known better than to type a post directly into this dialog box. Typing text elsewhere finished with a cut and paste to the forum box is not always convenient.

The GOTD server removed my entire post when I hit two keys at once. This is the last time that I will put up with this poor behavior. The GOTD server has not allowed me to activate software on many occasions when the activation step preceded the software setup.

Today I celebrated the 8th year anniversary of not buying any Microsoft product. I am not far from stopping visiting GOTD forums.

I had some material that I was looking forward to telling you about. I am very, very angry.

No I have not. This sounds like a wonderful idea. What I have done is started using Dragon NaturallySpeaking again. I have a very hard time typing and losing something after spending a great deal of time typing it is disheartening.

I gave you people wrong information on "Download Junkie". Download Junkie is some kind of sub name. This is where you need to start http://www.vnunet.com/downloads/ . When you go to this URL you'll see how Download Junkie fits into the name.

If any of you came back here and got this information, I would appreciate it if you'd let me know with a short note. I would hate for all my work to be in vain.

Bigun, I've gotten several programs from both Free Download A Day and vnunet.com in the past. As a matter of fact I've posted links to specific programs from them into relevant threads before. I agree they have great selections! Thanks!

(I think that I may have posted most of mine in the FREEWARE LIST HOME thread.)
