Dear everyone,

I been a 'regular' of this wonderful site and seldom have problem dl softwares here. The only time happens is when GOTD moved host or so. Other than that is always fine. However for these many days I been not able to activate any things... and today AOne I need it........

I did read all past threads from blog and tried but still the same. e.g firewall uncheck, add GOTD as favourite (both IE & Fox),add activate.exe and uncheck reminded sound etc..still not working.

I use Win XP Home, not Norton software, been using the same laptop for years since I 'knew' GOTD, relay on Fox to dl software (I tried IE too still can't)

Thanks to advise me and I will really appreciate it. So sad.....awwwh

Have you requested help via the comments section as well? If not I'd copy this over to there as well because many don't bother coming over to the forums. Sorry I can't suggest anything else other than what you've already done. Though if you are using a wireless router you couild try disconnecting it from the mains and leaving it for a few minutes then re booting it up. I'd also do the same with your modem. Also try cleaning out your internet cache by right clicking on the internet icon and selecting internet properties. You shoud get a small window popping up that gives you several options. I'm using IE so I don't know whether the window look different to fire fox, but look for appropriate buttons. Click on the link below to see an image:

though, one one of my other computers there's only one button initially, that enables you to clear everything. I hope these help.

I had a problem activating some time ago and after carrying out one of the above measures it worked again, but I can't remember which it was.

Thanks so much to reply and advise. I try that for both browser. Not working. really sad... wats is going on. Is like daymare..........omg. Any more advise will be appreciate. Good day rabbit. :)

Ya I believe so.. but why suddenly 'like this' when I been dl stuffs here many times and have no problem (unless they move 'hse' again). sigh....... Now is already half day gone..don't think I am able to get this today...oh..........

As *everybody* 'round here knows, I am a newbie :( Yap a total n00b indeed

So don't know if this is relevant or not, but I read a post by MrB some months back, about a strange interaction btwn FF & IE:
==> Even if u'r using FF, *IF* IE was inadvertently set to OffLine, it messes up something or other, making it impossible to dwld (or activate?, don't remember which).

I read it in passing a few months ago, so I put it in a little head-drawer, just in case ...
Check those settings in case the prob. is there.

maybe the problem started with the last host change...you said that is when you have problems...

july 1st GOTD was moved to a new host...

also, please read the front comment page, #18, Funkster...apparently the trial version you can download from the site will accept the registration number from GOTD...

if you downloaded & have the registration number but could not activate, maybe try that?...

Forgot to add
On FF, to deal with or manage Cookies, Cache, ... and clean all that
1-Go to about:cache
2-Go to Options > Privacy > Show Cookies

To make it easier & faster, I've dragged the little "Locket" icon to the toolbar, so I can manage it from there
==> R-Click on the Toolbar & Customize & Find the Locket > Drag
Then tick the items you want to clear.
There *many* addons that deal w the Cache & the Cookies, donno which u have ...

You most probably already know all this ;*)
I thought adding it here would help future visitors :D

OMG! Thank you so much Violet for the great tips! I dl the trial and use the reg. key and it works! I am so .........happy.

Thank you Le, Robert and Rabbit for all your advise and taking the trouble to give me advise.. I already clear the cache, add cookies, uncheck offline etc.... still no working. But I am so happy to able to have this wonderful software from AOne and hope they won't be mad that I kind of do this by dl their sw and the 'best part' close to 12pm LOL..........thank you everyone. A big hug for all.

(Guess I may have to say 'goodbye' to my lovable GOTD goodies now on.......(unless I can activate by their contributor sw like tonight ..woohoo! It will be neat. :P

Check the Date and time on your computer. Make sure the date is the same as GOTD's date.

No, The date and time on your computer is irrelevant.

The "giveaway" time (expired or otherwise) is always determined from the GOTD Servers when you connect during setup or activation.

May I know how to edit my time zone? I still can't dl today wondershare slideshow.......oh...............this is too sad....

I live in Vancouver, Canada so what should I put in my 'time zone' to match up with GOTD?

I dont 'everything" I could with everyone wonderful advise (clear cach, cookies, firewall etc..) still cannot work. What happen? The only 'change' I believe I have done to my laptop is that I just upgraded my winzip to pro version. Shouldn't have anything to do with it right. I also to play safe to check out and "adjust" it to be as 'friendly' as possible.

Jul I don't know if this will help but have you checked you firewall settings as I was trying to download from another site and found I could connect but was unable to download due to my McAfee firewall Which was set for connect only.

You just need the clock set to your own time zone. Just click on the clock, then the middle browser labeled time zone, and select the one closest to where you live.

Have you tried downloading onto another computer?

The only other thing I could suggest would be to set up a second windows installation. I found many times with programs that wouldn't work, or DVD based games that wouldn't install, creating a second windows installation solved the problem. The only problem with this would be you wouldn't be able to use the software when using your normal installation; but at least you would have copies. If this worked you'd be able to keep al your giveaways on the new installation. This would actually be a blessing in some ways, because the more programs you fill your root directory with, the slower your computer starts to run, though one installation wont affect anther unless the hard drive you are using is getting dangerously full.

one thing you could try is getting a download manager if you can download from other sites. It may help.

I've been using this one for a while now, and it does well

There are many possibilities depending on what exactly happens when you try to download. The first thing I would check is security settings in your internet options or any security software you may have running.

Hello everyone,

It been a month since I try to dl software and still getting the 'firewall' error msg all time. I done all the advises I got from you helpful ppl here but..sigh. I am rather sad .. anyway also want to say 'Hi' to you guys/gals . I will appreciate other advise,or I may never able to dl the lovely software from GOTD anymore and it will sad/bad news to me. No one mentioned about the mirror site. Have you tried using it? For some reason, I could never d/l from the main site since their last move..always had to use the mirror site. It never said anything about a firewall error though; I would just get a corrupt file.

What does the error exactly say? What firewall are you using?

Thanks so much for reply. I tried both but still the same 'firefox' error msg. Sigh......... whenever our dear GOTD 'move house' I will get these problem.

Guess 'is time' to 'wave goodbye' to my favourite site for all the goodies. I hope those who able to dl the goodies ...............APPREICIATE WHAT YOU HAVE ! Err..................(sob).

Hi Jul,

Maybe you should take a look at your hosts file,
(usually C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts , on XP that is)
Open this file with notepad and see if "www.giveawaytheday.com" is listed in it.
If this site is listed you should delete that line.

If not,try to clear the DNS resolver cache, using the following command entered at the command prompt:
ipconfig /flushdns

It's got to be something to do with your o.s. (I reckon). Maybe you should do a full re-install of windows. You could firs try doing a repair install. Then if that doesn't work do the deed and format the drive (But make an image of the registry first so that you don't lose valuable registry information) You could try exporting the software registries from the software hives found in the registry editor (go to the start menu, click on run then type in regedit. you can search for the software hives then export them to the desktop as executable registry files so that you can reinstall the software hives after you've done a format. Don’t forget to save the files to a safe place first though.

Failing that download Version Tracker and run the demo. It will list all the drivers that are out of date.

Go to the task manager and turn off all unnecessary programs. You my have to try this by trial and error, though a rule of thumb is don't turn off any system programs.

Go to the tool bar at the bottom left next to the clock and right click on the icons. You should be able to turn off most of the background programs that are running. Most are usually not necessary. You can make this more permanent by using a suitable start up manager (I use Anvir suite - there’s a freeware version that does the job well)

I'd also retry clearing out your internet cache.

I really appreciate you new guide and have follow exactly what you advise me. I check and confirm http://www.giveawayoftheday.com is not in the list (I view through the long list twice ..eyes get so 'confuse'after scrolling LOL) and I did entered the command and clear the DNS. I also double check that ff is my default browser. Clean my caches too. Confirm that I didn't 'block' gotd site in option. Uninstall Win service pack 3 while ago when I also suspect that this may be the cause. (back to SP 2 now). I really don't know whats going on? This is so 'upset' . Will love to hear more advise from you again or anyone to try whether this can solve. Thank you once again. (sigh...)

Hello 'rabbit'(Stephen) :),

I am so happy to hear from you again. Mine is Acer Travelmate Note Book and it come with 'built in' default program. Therefore it didn't come with any CD/repair disk.(I already check with Acer Tech. Support) So I can't 'repair' by inserting CD or it will 'return to default' position and lost everything I have. (My NB crashes before around 6 mths ago :( ) I really appreciates you guys take your times to try and help me. Please let me know can I still do as you advise without a repair CD for this 'unique condition'. As long I won't lost 'everything' in this 'tiny brain' of my Note Book will be great. Thanks and hear from you again. :)

you mentioned an error message. What message do you get?

knowing that may help narrow this down some.

If it is a message from your firewall, check the settings there. There is, to put it in basic terms, a sort of redirect that happens with the links that could be throwing a security alarm. For example:

today's link when you click to download now
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/download/?id=3443

actual file link is
http://files.giveawayoftheday.com/iRecordMaxSoundRecorder.zip

I will bet the second link works fine. It's something in your security settings if so. It is perfectly logical that a firewall could block autodownloads like that.

You should try using a portable version of Firefox to see if you still have problems accessing the giveaways.You can download it here : Firefox Portable 3.01
This will not interfere with your installed version Firefox.

If you still get error messages,please be more specific.

As Brad said, what message *exactly* do you rcv from FF??
Were you able to take advantage of Brad's link? Did it work?

• Do you do a regular cCleaner &/or Total Privacy run?
• What Security softs are you using? AV, Spyware, etc

Come to think of it, even better if you post *ALL* your specs here:
==> Hardware
==> OS, Browser, all AVs, Spywares, Cookie/Cache cleaners, ...
To see if one of us has has a problem in the past w any of them.
With all of us thinking 2gether, I'm sure we'll find someway to resolve this mystery!

I just noticed some time back WRabbit asked if you had tried to dwld/install on another PC.
I don't think you answered that.

I don't know y ..............is so sad and weird tooooo. To be spcific, the error msg is............

" Activation module failed to connect to Giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check you firewall settings."

MY FIREWALL IS FINE AND THE INTERNET IS OK IF NOT HOW CAN I 'COMMUNICATE' WITH YOU ???

The usual problem with NEVER being able to connect during activation is Internet Explorer is set to "Work Offline" (and the user has a secondary browser to download the giveaways) (BuBBy)

Also one of your browsers should be set as 'the default browser'.
