Alawar changed it's game pretty much on schedule this month. I didn't check it right after the first but as of a day or two ago, it was turtix. Still and oldie available other places. However, it's free!

Alawar finally updated the game of the month. I've been checking and it kept showing a blank box for the game. Today it updated it to RoboBall - a cute little breakout game. I've got it so I didn't get it here.

I remember getting Roboball when it was released by Alawar. Less than six weeks later they gave it away on the Gamegiveawayoftheday. It's a sweet little breakout, though some complained that the movement caused a sort of seasickness when they played it for extended periods. The game had a little comedy as well, when the robot wins a level it does a few funny movements. Not played it in a while. Will dig it out and have a go. :) Thanks for reminding me about Gamebox. I'm always forgetting to check, though it's rare that they give a game away that I don't already have. Most of those that I don't have I wouldn't purchase anyway. Still, I prefer Alawar to BFG and Gamehouse. Once you get the serial code for an Alawar game it's re-usable forever. As for Gamehouse and BFG it always worries me about what if they go bust or are bought out. That happened to Reflexive games who were one of the biggest game developer/distributors several years ago. I purchased over 900 arcade games from them and now can no longer re register any of them because they were bought out by Amazon who have since reneged on a promise to allow re-registering of your old Reflexive games. So now I'm stuck with 900+ demos of games I used to own a licence for.
Rock on Alawar :)

I don't think I would say Rock on Alawar
I have not seen a "Free" game in a while, my Free Game Tab shows up blank white on both computers!
Click on a game and there is no price, just "Download Now", or "Alawar Unlimited"
At $99.95 a year, I won't be joining!
Which makes me wonder about the beta program! Still waiting for "Weird Park- Broken Tunes"! Last one I did was "Hidden Worlds", which was well after Weird Park and has been released!
I see they have also taken away the deals that used to be on the right side of the home page...

I've not bothered checking the game box since having to reinstall Win 7 last month. in fact I've only just got around to reinstalling the gamebox. There is a new game available called birdies a time management game that the kids will probably love.
Posted 13 years ago # -
At least they changed it close to on schedule. I checked last night and it was still magic tale but it has changed now.
It's not my weekend. This and Realore are both time management games and I just don't care for them. Oh, well. It's not like I don't still have plenty of games!

Neither do I. I find them too stressful; tohugh I do like some of the farm management games.

Alawar have changed their offering again....it's Mahjong Artifacts 2 this time around.
Posted 13 years ago # -
I don't see ANY game - I see just a blank screen for the free game.
Also, all of a sudden, all MY games show up twice in the list of my games!
Posted 13 years ago # -
I finally got the game. Most of today I could not load the Gamebox - server errors. When it finally cleared, the game was there. However, I still see all my games doubled in the list.
I'm still waiting for them to reply to my email but at least I've got the game now. You used to have to download and install and THEN activate in a separate step. Now it's all done in one "swell foop" (as one of my OOOOOOLD professors once termed it).

On another interesting note, it actually put an icon on my desktop this time!

Alawars Latest Game
Flowery Vale
It's a match 3

And the new game this month is Magus : In search of adventure. A cute Lode Runner type game that the kids will probably love.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Well Stevie, I must be a kid then because I like it! It reminds me of one of my all time favorite games "Super Cow"
Posted 12 years ago # -
Lol Sukibabe, I love it as well, I didn't mean it was only for kids, but the 'cute' factor will appeal to them. Lode Runner was one of the first computer games that really grabbed me, that little stick man running and climbing all over the place was great and it's nice to have a more modern version.

A new game has been posted called Fashion Season
Posted 12 years ago # -
Now WR be careful that you don't stay up too late playing this game. Who knows, you might even become a fashionista. ;)

fat chance, lol

A new game is now available during May called Discord Times. I've not seen this one on the Gamebox before. :)
Posted 12 years ago # -
Weekends are time for checking and I just checked! I haven't seen that one either Whabbit...
But I will check it out...
Posted 12 years ago # -
I guess I'm not supposed to get Discord Times. My Gamebox Free Game area says Magus In Search of Adventure and it isn't changing nohow! I've tried it over 3 days now, but it is still determined to stay on Magus which I have already got (and it kindly reminds me that I've got it every time too.)
Not as if I haven't got enough games though..........

They must have regionalized the game of the month. I've not seen Magus In Search of Adventure on the Game box before. It looks like a fun platform game. :) Maybe that will be the next game on the game box. I have seen this difference before some time ago. Did you get last months free game via the Game box Nola?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Magus was from two months ago....it's a Lode Runner type game with cute graphics.

Hi both Stephen/StevieD, Yes, I got Magus two months ago and can't get the Free Game to change since then. No, I didn't install last month's game as I didn't want it. Magus was the first one I got after installing Game Box on this laptop,
I will have to try the Game Box on my old XP laptop, see if I can get Discord Times there, if I can, I can easily transfer it to this Win 7 lappy. And I will try deleting this Game Box and re-installing it, (I believe there was a very helpful link to Game Box somewhere in these forms) and I installed a very old (years old) Game Box from the XP. Maybe it has been updated.
I have written to Alawar support - we will see if that helps although I'm not holding my breath.
All in all, I'm not worried about missing a free game, I have hundreds of BFG games let alone hundreds from the free games on these forums, so I can always find a game to play. It is just the mystery of it I would like to solve.

Okay I'm happy now. I deleted the Game Box I had then clicked on the link 2 pages back, and apart from having to decline 2 lots of toolbars etc I got an updated Game Box with Discord Times as the free game.
Glad I sorted it out so easily, thank you both for your replies.

I don't update normally but that's because of the changes that Alawar has me doing. If I revert back to the "normal" state of files, I do update but then I have to go back to their recommendations for the gamebox to recognize that some of the games it tags as "other" are Alawar games. In neither case does it recognize 17 games and I've been waiting for 2 week since I sent the last info to them and over 2 months since I first reported the problem.

I don't use their Game Box to play the games anyway, as I have folders of HOGS, Strategy games, Match 3s, etc and prefer to place the game icons in those. (When I want to play a game, it is usually a particular type - at the moment I'm made on Time Management games.) So the Alawar games go into their appropriate folder. In fact, I only use the Game Box to download the free games, if I want to buy off their 'newsletter' I go direct to their site although that hasn't happened since Stephen told us about their $99 (dumb) idea.
And you are right about their poor support, I haven't had an answer yet, even if it was only a day ago.

I don't play their games from the Gamebox either. It's more the principal of the thing that got me working on that bug -- I don't like bugs! The requirement of having the internet active just to load the Gamebox is an extreme limitation to it.
I do use the Gamebox to install all my games, free or otherwise. There's a good reason for that! Gamebox has options where you can set what to do with the downloaded install file AND where to put the game during install. With a direct download, you have NO choice where the game is put and the current location -- Program Files! I do not let anything go to program files if I can help it, especially games. Games that do end up there (such as from JenKat games) get MOVED after the fact and shortcuts fixed.
Also, that new $99 idea actually works out a smarter way for you to get your "purchased" games. You can't buy them before you download, true but that actually is good! Because the current setup requires you to download and install the trial version first, you have the opportunity to be sure the game works BEFORE you buy it. Once you have tested it for a few minutes (you have up to 60 minutes), just exit the game and click on the "other" side to remove the time limit. If you already have the code you can just put it in or you can purchase the game there.
I don't like the wrapper at the front but many of the games are skipping it at the end and that's one step better.
I've gotten several games lately by doing surveys for Opinion Outpost. Since their Amazon.com ecard reward hasn't worked since early January ("temporarily unavailable"), the only reward of any use is Alawar games. 30 points and you can redeem them for a code you use on one Alawar page (the same page we used to get the free game at the end of last year) and then you get the code to put in the remove-time limit area.
Alawar's big inconvenience now is that the game codes are only good for 3 days. If you don't use them right away, you have to go to the trouble of asking for another code and proving you are entitled to it!

Is this one no longer free? I can't seem to find where it says free. Hmmm Any help would be appreciated!
