   I have been using both browsers for some time now. My opinion is that they are both useful for certain situations. I've found IE7 to freeze often, getting those annoying "internet explorer can't find the website" messages. Low and behold I will go immediately to firefox and the website loads. I can't explain it and don't understand it but it often works that way.

   On the other hand, firefox just doesn't have the speed that IE7 does. Cleaning out temporary files is difficult and not very obvious as well as making changes in bookmarks, addons, etc. It can easily become bloated and access to many Microsoft websites is not possible through it. Many of the online video sites I use however are only accessible with firefox.

   I guess a more simple answer to your question from me would be that it depends on what I am doing online or whatever issues I might be having at the time. I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses. If someone could pair up the speed and ease of Internet Explorer with the security and dependability of firefox, they would have created a nearly perfect browser.

   When your IE browser reports it "can't find the website" but FF can, it's likely that either your security level settings are not in sync (i.e., IE settings may be set higher than FF's) OR FF isn't accessing the same hosts file or whitelists/blacklists as IE, so the URL is given a pass by FF. I'm sure one of the FF fans can offer suggestions on either pointing FF to the same lists, or installing parallel whitelists/blacklists using FF's dizzying array of plug-ins and add-ons, not to be confused with IE's dizzying array of patches and fixes. :-)

   Your firewall log should show whether the URL was even called. If there's an outgoing call by FF but not by IE, you have your answer. (well, part of it) IE was barred from calling out... maybe the URL's on the IE restricted sites lists, or the URL might be on a blacklist that isn't as user-friendly as HOSTSMAN (if Hostsman blocks something, you'd get a white browser window with "URL BLOCKED by HOSTSMAN"), but a number of ad server blockers just block... and many web designers fail to provide a rollover. Now, if IE calls out and then gives that "can't find site" message (or just times out), then perhaps the site tried to perform some activity that's blocked by an IE Advanced Setting (e.g., scripting's disabled).

   There may be a simple universal way to determine what's causing a block, but I haven't thought of it. TIP: Picking up the monitor and shaking it violently while swearing in several languages doesn't work.

   i had been so comfortable with IE, that i was very happy. then when i had to move in with my parents my step-father had removed all traces of IE from his computers and only used FF. it took some getting used to, but now i prefer FF so much more. when i got my own computer, i installed both because i sometimes have to use IE.

   now that i've installed FF3, i have to say that i love FireFox! i'm still playing, exploring and learning, but i am pleasantly surprised every day. the browser you choose to use, is definitely a personal decision, but FF has an extension for anything you could possibly need or want.

   for those who mentioned the 'awesome bar', i, too, didn't like it at all, but didn't know how to get rid of it (until now). apparently it's intuitive, so the sites you visit the most often, are the ones that appear there. the more i get used to it (and it gets used to me), the more i like it.

   btw, i don't think that bubby was being condescending. we all know how hard it is to read people in a forum, it is even harder to give information and not seem condescending.

   just my opinion.

   Well, despite my reluctance to reinstall Firefox; I'm just about to. I'm always willing to give things a second chance (and even a third sometimes) so last night I downloaded FF3, but I've not actually installed it yet. I'm still toying with the idea.

   It does seem from the above comments that the majority prefer Firefox; though there is always a larger silent voice that may not agree with that. Still, I'm willing to mess around with it for a while and see what I think (because I do have plenty of time to mess). I'll report back in a few weeks and tell you what I think. :) In the mean time keep those comments coming. I'm going to start a new thread that asks those who use fire fox to tell me about their favorite extensions and maybe the ones they find the least useful. Check it out:

   As a web developer, I have FF, IE, NS, OP, SF, and several others to test on. The most customizable, the easiest, fastest browsing is through FF, IMO.

   Firefox is unique. There are so many add-ons which helps you to maintain your browser hassle free. Try those Add-ons and you will never turn to IE.

   IE8 is a vast improvement over IE7 if that is so IE 7 must be bad Test on browser-security IE 8 & Firefox all most the same but the ActiveX how you know if it ok to let it run I don't like may be it just me? you don't have it in Firefox, You can make Firefox very safe with NoScript & Adblock Plus & add spyblock,
   The fist thing I did with window 7 was try IE 8 very slow so got Firefox & Opera 10 go very good & fast, Hear is some if and Test on browser_battle most on IE and Firefox hope it help.
