Years ago, I wanted to create a PDF file from something else and someone recommended PrimoPDF to me. I was happy with it and recommended it to others who needed to do similarly. Most commonly, it was to create a PDF form of a cross-stitch pattern using PCStitch. They could just "print" to this logical printer.
In all honesty, I can no longer recommend this product. It has nothing to do with the merits of the program itself but the INSTALL of the product.
I know that many installs now have all sorts of products offered along with the main product and you can accept or decline them. Products such as Chrome or McAfee are often the products offered in these installs.
What PrimpPDF does is far different. Besides the ultra fine print and crowded messages obscuring the names of the products, I found some products installed that were not even in the accept/decline list. To make matters worse, as I was trying to uninstall products, it was using the uninstall to install more stuff. I ended up uninstalling/installing some products 3 or 4 times before I got everything out! It was a royal mess.
Save yourself the trouble -- use something else. Don't try to install PrimoPDF.
I have noticed that the Foxit Reader (clone of Adobe Reader) has a similar logical printer. A single test shows it does seem to work but I need further tests to be sure it's stable and works well enough in general.
My initial tests on Foxit Reader PDF Creator seems positive. It creates a nice PDF file that is slightly smaller than that created from PrimoPDF and is FAR faster in execution. Further tests are needed.
I'll post my results on Foxit Reader PDF Creator when I have completed more tests. At the same time, I welcome other comments on both PrimoPDF and my experiences as well as Foxit Reader's product and any other products. I prefer free products for this kind of operation.
