Could u please give us WinRAR full version and Sony Vegas Pro 8?
WinRAR: Lets you open .RAR files (those annoying ones that it would usually say: cant be read) winrar recognizes those, and can compress and convert files/EXTRACT.
Sony Vegas Pro 8 is a video editing program and is AMAZING. It is really good for editing.

I've found a better alternative to Winrar called Stuffit. I bought version 12 from Smith Micro - where I got my fish screensavers (Aquazone 2). It does everything that Winrar does plus lots more. you can compress your back up files to a fraction of what winrar can.
It's quite expensive at $49.99, but they often have special offers on. I got it for $29.99 a couple of months ago after subscribing to their newsletter:

Check out the Aquazone section. Theres two versions the second one works with vista the first does't, but both are fantastic. Well worth buying if you are into fish. :)

The SIT (Stuffit archive) format is much more popular and common on the Apple Mac.
As Stuffit, doesn't have full support for RAR archives (can't create), which would be the second most widely used format (after zip).
The full license for WinRAR is $29. Members at DonationCoder.com get a further 20% discount on WinRAR at the moment ($23.20)
WinRAR has lifetime free versison upgrades. StuffIt version upgrades/updates are charged currently about $15-$20 depending on which version you are running.
Because of licensing restrictions - WinRAR is the only program permitted to create RAR archives (third party programs are permitted to extract from RAR files, eg WinZip, 7Zip etc).
As RAR archives are the dominant file archive format I use - WinRAR is the only choice available to me.

Hi BuBBy,
Surely if you can still unzip rar files then it shouldn't actually matter. Creation of zipped files is not the issue here, it's getting a more versatile program for un-zipping files which in my opinion Stuffit fulfills over Winrar, plus it has the added benefit of condensing files much tighter than Winrar.
Most people are looking for a package that will unzip zipped files which stuffit excels in. Also as mentioned above Stuffit can compress files much better than winrar or any other file compression software, so on that point alone Stuffit wins hands down.
Still it's a matter of preference. I'm sure we all have our own preferences when it comes to most softwares and or games.
I see your point about lifetime upgrades, but I really don't see what upgrades either of these programs can come up with that's going to improve on what are already superb programs. I'm sure new developments in the future will require both these programs to update, then of course Winrar does come into it's own. I bought winrar many moons ago, so will always have the most recent version of that program anyway, but I also wanted something that could compress better because I send a lot of files via Email which with my hotmail accounts is limited to 10Mb. Stuffit fits the bill wonderfully. Also as I said, if you sign up for their news letter (monthly, so you aren't inundated with Emails every day) you're likely to get on offer at some point. I paid less for stuffit than I did for winrar.

I received the latest winrar newsletter which gives a link to the latest version v3.8 Beta:

hey, the rabbit's back!
they do fix bugs and tweak the formats occasionally.
and somebody recently posted a link to WinRAR 3.62 for free on the forums- got 3 licenses- what else should I use now? I pretty much standardized on it lanwide.
Besides, rar archives have pretty good options, like adding error correction data in each volume of a split file, etc. for storing irreplaceable data, that's good. it's a much faster alternative to Ice ECC.
if you want to extract something WinRAR won't handle, like many installers, try Universal Extractor, handles a long list of types... grab that for extraction, would be my suggestion.
and for sending stuff that large, upload it to sendspace and just send the url- and IIRC the rar encryption's not bad.

I like alzip and lots of other of their free tools.

I used to. but overall, other tools can best them. I do try to keep current, though.
the eggs are cute though.

I don't use WinRAR unless I want to create a RAR archive. For extracting I always use 7zip, a really good freebie.
I don't think you'll find Sony Vegas Studio 8 for free (legally that is) anywhere. It's way too expensive for that...Posted 16 years ago # -
I second 7zip...been using them for years now.
