The first game I tried to download was Crystal Cave Gold. I have had the shareware version and my kids love it. I had three minutes to install and activate.
I can work fast, no problem. I did it all, and allowed the activation through my firewall, installed the program, called up the html readme file - then my PC froze.
It takes more than 3 minutes to reboot, scan the disk, get online and get back to this site. But I didn't think there'd be a problem, because I had finalized the installation itself, and was merely loading the readme into my browser. That was what crashed.
When I tried to activate the download again after the crash, it said it was no longer available. But I had done EVERYTHING I was supposed to do - the game wizard had finished. The game was even installed. But after the crash it was erased.
I feel the proprietors of this site should provide this download, since I did everything required in the time allotted. I type over 135 wpm - few people could have done what was necessary as fast as I could.
This is a flaw in this program - if you crash before a short time limit expires, you're SOL, and it's not your fault. In addition, I think the "verifier" keeps holding onto your connection longer than they should. My download of a utility just before this game kept this site's verifier in connection with my PC long after it was installed and functioning. I'd like to know what may be going on between this site and my PC AFTER I've already installed and verified a free download.
If this is a righteous site, they should make allowances for such things as a crash when you would otherwise have done everything required, even within a tiny 3-minute allowance.
I'd very much like to hear what the owners of this site have to say - to all of us - about such things.
