can anyone give me a little more info about this?
i have just enough computer knowledge to be very dangerous to my computer, so i would like to know if this would be helpful or if i would be able to use it safely and properly.
:D

oh yeah, thanks k8.
funkymom.. here's their web site so you can check it out:
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/
Funky
I don't wanna spoil the party, but this is a 'starter' edition.
It still is a useful program but some nice features are left out.
:)
Funky.....All I can tell you is hubby uses Spyware Dr after he runs everything else because it's very good at finding stuff the others missed.
uses Spyware Dr after he runs everything else because it's very good at finding stuff the others missed.
A rhetorical question - If it is that good, why does he run it last, instead of first? Perhaps he could avoid running the other scans. :)
thanks everyone- i'm going to check it out.
Good thought BuBBy.. I've been running a few things tonight, like Ad-aware, and A-2 squared, but think I'll run spyware doctor now. Each one seems to find different things.
Funky,
I use PC Tools Spyware Doctor and have for at least a year. It seems to work well for me. If anything, I would call it "over-sensitive", which I believe to be a better characteristic than not sensitive enough. I've never had any problems with it either.
I use pc-cillin antivirus program and it has all those features included :)
I still use Spybot: Search & Destroy on 2 PC's.
The only thing I don't like about Spyware Doc that I run on my 3rd machine (that I'm unable to run Spybot on) is that it doesn't break things down individually!
Dan, your right, it is over-sensitive! It tends to make you think your really infected with all its HIGH ratings!
I am at a loss as to why I can't run Spybot on that machine!
I had it on all 3 of my PC's, then I did a trial of Trend Micro(which told me I had to take spybot off?), didn't like Trend and took it off, was able to put Spybot back on 2, but not on the 3rd?
Will have to get into it and see if there is a leftover from Trend Micro, lol!
Suki
P.S. You can also just install the trial of Spyware Doctor and when you go to take it off they will offer it Free with the Google Pack, minus the Onquard feature.
Suki... and minus the anti-virus :(
K8
OK K8
What am I paying for when I have McAfee? I thought that was my Virus protection!
I only use Spybot and SpyDoc for pups.....and for BuBBy,lol,(McAfee for)my site advisor!!!!!!!
Suki
Sorry, that I come so late to this party with my question, does this tool - SpywareDoc with antivirus - match with Mr. Kaspersky ?
I have Kaspersky Antivirus, and Spybot, and Mamutu, and scan additional with Ad-Aware. I would like the Doc. only for some visitations not for permanent observation. But I saw that the prog comes in one exe.file and I don't dare to install it; won't mess my system up - more than it already is. Weird again...
Hi Graylox,
You already seem to have enough ammo to blow up a (cyber)castle.Lol.
I would advise you not to install this program.
But I sure would give it a try on a freshly installed OS..
(thanks K8)
Thanks Robert, I'm not really paranoiac, but "Doctor" sounds much more respectable than "...bot" or "...aware"; and he may have the one pill against all cyber illnesses
As long as I don't get the Forbidden Fruits... ;-)
Thanks K8
Suki - it's just that it appeared that you were comparing the free version (with Google) of Spyware Doctor with the one that's being given away... "P.S. You can also just install the trial of Spyware Doctor and when you go to take it off they will offer it Free with the Google Pack, minus the Onquard feature." ... so I was just reminding *everyone* that the free version does not contain Anti-Virus.
K8
Thanks K8
graylox, I don't have Kasperky. but I was able to put SpyBot back on the one machine, just had to move its path.
Then I ran a Full Scan with Spybot. Then I ran SpyDoctor. The sensitivity of the issues with it were very low(all came up as very low problems)!
However, SpyDoctor came up with this: Threat Level info PUAs
Description: A Potentially unwanted Adaware program that could be used to Display Various Pop-up Advertisements.
"The threat is also known as: Win32.180Solutions.ay [Kasperkey] Hotbar.SpamBlockerUtility"
Now as far as I know I don't have Kasperkey on that machine, or any others! I never installed it!
K8, what is up with that????? Is this the same version: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/google_pack/
My version on the 3rd machine is V5.5.0.204
Suki
Unfortunately they are not the same - they are both 'Starter Editions' but the Google one doesn't contain the Anti-virus.
K8
Sukibabe, i could be wrong but perhaps Spyware Doctor has the engine as they say,
from Kasperskey ? i posted Spyware Doctor Starter Edition about a month ago as offered
Free from the following link http://www.vnunet.com/ however they no longer offer it,
but if you click the link and type it in the search they give a big description. Funkeymom have a look at that link ! Oh the same link is now offering Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Paulga
K8
Could you insert that link here? I get page cannot be found!
I think I am able to get 1 out of 100 copy & paste jobs done right, lol!
Must be the Osteo-Arthritis in my mouse fingers, lmao!
Paulga: Yes I remember visiting that link you posted, but didn't notice the difference between that one and Google Packs. The link I provided above doesn't even show Anti-Virus as an option with their paid version, unless my glasses are that dirty, lol!
Thanks, Suki

Tried it again on my Desktop, this time I got a text document?
Suki
Spyware doctor= great AV/AS program. I used the starters edition from the google pack http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en&gl=us&utm_source=en_US-et-more&utm_medium=et&utm_campaign=en_US , and now my computer is free of viruses mostly ;) and it got the highest rating on PCworld for anti-spyware!
Suki - read the instructions in the text document you downloaded.
