I believe that is a work in progress. First, it is necessary to line up software developers that are willing to work with Mac giveaways. To that end, I have been writing letters to various independent software developers and telling them about the mac @ giveawayoftheday project. If you like, I can post a sample letter that you can send to developers, also.

Sure, that would be great.
I have used your service on my PC, but now i am back to Mac
Any thing i can do just say so

I posted a sample letter under the 'whiners' thread. It's geared toward games but can be easily altered for Mac software. Hope it helps.

Bobby, no need to be harsh about it. fgviva was just asking a question about the Mac version. It's entirely possible that (s)he didn't see the blog/main page post(s) about the subject and simply did the next logical and best thing to do - hit the forums to see what kind of information asking a question could drum up.
Don't be so quick to label people "whiners" just because they're asking about the possibility (or progress) of something being worked on/added to the site, because fgviva was not whining or complaining in any way. To just use a knee-jerk reaction and "verbally" backhand a person for asking a question makes the claims of those who really are "whiners" seem less and less justified when you do - it makes you look like a troll who delights in trying to rile up others with cheap insults and sniping comments.
However, I don't think that was the intent of your post, but it did seem to come across that way (at least to me). I don't see any reason to believe you were trying to be a pain or troll, but like I said the wording of your post almost seemed to have an aggressive and/or malicious snide tone. It doesn't bother me one way or the other - if you didn't mean it, so much the better; if you did, well I'll just ignore comments from you in the future (like I do to the real trolls on sites I frequent when they pop up - don't these people have anything better to do with their time? *g*). I don't think that I've got to worry about that just from this post though, like I said I don't believe you meant for it to come across that way - and its possible it's just my perception of the post and that no one else will see it that way (and if that's the case, do as I would to an annoyance and ignore my remarks here - I'd deserve it I suppose.). :o)

WeyrleaderZor, I'm certain that there was no malicious intent to Bobby's post. She was just pointing to the example of a letter on how to write to software developers. :)

Hello Weyrleader
I really do think your comments are uncalled for.
There is *nothing* in Bobby's posts that could be accusatory or malicious. And she certainly is *NOT* a troll!!!
You don't even know what you are talking about and come up w conclusions??Bobby, as usual, was being HELPFUL!!!!
She is referring to another thread, the title of which is Whiners from early today and she *kindly* wrote a basic letter to help out others who wanted to contact Games Distributors!!
Please don't come here and accuse a very kind & generous & gentle member of this forum of something she is certainly not guilty of!!!
You are the one being "harsh" and "jumping to conclusions"! The WRONG conclusions!!

Although you did certainly jump to an erroneous conclusion, WeyrleaderZor, there's no offense taken. I'm much too old to be riled, even by young dragonriders.

fgviva: here's a sample MacOS letter you may rewrite to suit your purposes...try to include the name of the company's software program that caught your eye:

Good Morning,I discovered your site shortly after purchasing my iMac and, of course, thought of you when I learned the hugely popular Giveaway of the Day site was pondering the feasibility of mac @ giveaway of the day.
The Giveaway team would purchase your software and, in turn, offer it on their site for a 24-hour period. During that time, there would be no free technical support, no free upgrades and no free replacement if lost. You, in turn, would receive creative and constructive feedback on your software from many of the tens of thousands of daily visitors to Giveaway of the Day. Many independent developers have enjoyed a marked increase in sales after their software was showcased on Giveaway of the Day.
I hope you choose to participate in the project. You can get more information by visiting giveaway of the day dot com and choosing the 'for developers' link. You may also call, toll free, 1.888.441.0638. I hope to see your software featured there soon. I am sure it will be a hit!
Sincerely,

Bobby, thanks for being understanding - I didn't think you intended to come across that way and even said plainly I may be the only one who saw it that way; apparently so. Again, I apologize.
Others - It wasn't that I assumed Bobby's post was malicious or that it was intended - I expressed the opposite opinion of that, actually - just that it came across that way to me. The reason I posted my reply was just as an FYI kind of thing so that I could convey what someone else COULD think about the post - like I said, I never considered it to be intentional or even factual, just an impression that _I_ got (and I even stated that I could be the ONLY one to get that, and that that would be my bad) so please stop the counter-rants, I've addressed them already. I understand that I probably DID sound off a bit hasty but that was another reason why I DID apologize in the original post.
Bobby's statement(s):
"I posted a sample letter under the 'whiners' thread. It's geared toward games but can be easily altered for Mac software. Hope it helps." seemed to imply that the solution for those asking about a potential Mac GOTD was to be found in the 'whiners' thread (actually, it's not implied, it's said outright) and that thread is aptly named with too many posts it contains. It just seemed a little "off" to see a person ask a question about something and to have a reply instructing them to "go to the thread with the other whiners." Like I said, I didn't think it was written maliciously or with any ill-intent, it just came across as having a sharp antagonistic tone to it. And, like I said then (too), it may only be MY perception of the comment, but I did see that it COULD be perceived that way - not that it WAS absolutely being perceived that way. I've been told several times, politely and respectfully, that things I've said/posted have been taken the wrong way. I am glad when people do tell me when I've said/posted something that could be (when done politely and respectfully - as I tried to be with Bobby (and I do hope that I did that much, at least)) so I can try to be more mindful of what I say/write in the future for the sake of being more respectful and considerate of others. But that's just me, I'm told I'm odd that (and on a lot of other) way(s).And one more thing Bobby - You a Dragonriders of Pern fan, or do you just know some of the series' terminology? And I'll really be impressed if you know who Zor is (without going to Google, or whatever search engine you use). *g*

Let's see .. I know the difference between a Dracolyte and Dragonrider; that dragons are identified by chromatics and metallics; that an unborn dragon is a wyrmling; that Tiamat is not one to mess with; and all things considered, I'd rather be a Dragonsong Lyrist.
Because my Dad was a Shriner/Jester/ROORAG, I know that Zor is a chapter of the Shrine based in Minnesota (Michigan?) and thanks to a childhood passion for reading, I know Zor-El was Jor-El's brother. Seems to me Zor also has something to do with war .. war-like .. ? Maybe a warlike tribe?

wow- i loved the dragonriders of pern! i haven't read any in over 15 (maybe 20 years). i've considered picking some up, but there are so many now and i'm a little (maybe a lot) compulsive. i wouldn't be able to read them unless i could start at the beginning again and have them all in order.
i foresee a trip to the library in my future.
thanks for the reminder.
i'm going to finish my 'thread hunting' (get it? :D ) and head to bed.
goodnight all.Posted 16 years ago # -
hey thanks, i did not want to start a war, so lets all look at each other and view it as being helpful
