kerikaz....Oh, I'm sorry, had a minor brain cramp. It's not the installing that's a problem it's the shortcuts on the startmenu. I have one Real folder under All Programs and 2 more folders inside my Games folder. That's 3 Real folders each one with different games. I've tried to put them all in the same shortcut folder but then they don't run. Ugh!

kerikaz: I am not sure that RA V1.4 is compatible with Vista, so that is probably why your laptop installation of RA is telling you to upgrade to V2.
Buckleysmom: When you say "install" do you mean where the game shows up in the Start Menu instead? Two different animals. The location of the actual game files installation can not be changed, it is in the Windows Registry as is. The icons in the Start Menu CAN be moved. Go to Start, Settings, then Taskbar and Start Menu. Then click on the "start menu" tab at the top, then Customize, then Advanced. That opens Windows Explorer right at your Start Menu. From there you can move the game icons to the folder of your choice -- ONLY MOVE WITHIN FOLDERS UNDER "START MENU". If you move them anywhere else, they will NOT be in your Start Menu! Good luck!

After reading the comments above I will play it safe in the future and not tempt fate by downloading any further games from Real Arcade, even if they are free. We have mostly had similarly annoying experiences with Real and their Customer disservice.
I thought that I was one of the few who had experiences problems but it sounds like there were many. I am grateful for Bigfish Games and their pricing/selection of games and excellent customer service. I have received many free games from them and they carefully read and understand what I am saying. It is one of the many reasons they have retained me as a long term customer. There is also much less drama.

Halaam,
I have RA V1.2 on both computers, not V1.4. For whatever reason, my systems have never updated from this version. Even when it checks for updates, it tells me I have the latest version....go figure. I heard that they are starting to phase out the old versions and force people to the new one. Maybe that's what's happening with my Vista. Tag, I'm it. LOL KeriPosted 16 years ago # -
Hi Kerikaz
I had a live phone chat with Real Arcade Customer Service a month ago and because of some incompatibility issues they were not forcing everyone to version 2 and assured me that I could stay with V 1.4 and even offered me a link. I think that they accept that the web based version cannot work for everyone and would rather not lose anymore customers. Not that I would necessarily trust everything they say.I have the same problems with the updates to the player (I think V 1.2 and 1.4 are very similar).

I had a phone chat too back in November/2007 from India, the chick told me she could access it on her end and it must be a fault with my wireless router. When I tried to explain to her that it was not on my end, she hung up!!!!!!! I had gone directly from my cable modem to the back of my Laptop(bypassing the router) to rule out that fact!
This is when I went to the Email support(at first also from India), they got my name wrong! They finally decided they could not help me and elevated me to Tier 2 Tech support, which is based in Washington State. I have a folder in my inbox that if I were to print it out, would take 140 pages! They asked me to send them all the system info, dxdiag and the V2 R2 test result which I did for all the PC's. Never heard from them again!
Buckleysmom, when I belonged to Game Pass, it was $7.99(all others $14.95).
Now it is $9.99(all others $14.99), they did however change the time limit from 1 to 2 months to use or loose your game credit! I am on the RA forums, and when I posted the price increase, they edited it out, lmao! I switched to Big Fish in 2006 and have never regretted the move! When I went to cancel game pass they kept trying to bribe me with a free game(hoping I would forget about the extra month, which I didn't)which I took! I called them back( which they require now for cancellation) and told them to just forget it, and send a confirmation Email that my membership had been canceled(which I kept encase of future charges to my card)!
At Fish, I pay $6.99 a month(all other games $6.99), I never loose my credits and customer service is good!
The price and customer service is not the only reason I left. They are very slow to get games! Case in point, I do what they call Evaluations(beta test) for them. We usually get from 1-5 a week. This last Thursday (3/27) the 2 games we got were: The Count of Monte Cristo (released on BF on 3/2/2008) and Can You See What I See (released on BF on 3/15/2008)! They still call it beta testing if you want to sign up, but most of it is, "Will You Buy this Game from RA"!
I'm not trying to change anyones mind here, just stating the best bang for your buck!
If RA works for you, then I'm glad! Big Fish also Upgraded their site around the same time(RA was May 2007), didn't screw it up and most important to me, Didn't Raise the Price!!!
Maybe if they would have taken some of the advice that was given to them from their customers, they wouldn't have lost so many!Suki

haalam.....yes I know they are "2 different animals", like I said I was just having a brain cramp (happens more often the older I get :D). Anyway the problem is not in installation it is with my start menu items. I will follow your tips and let you know the outcome. Thanks for the info.
Everyone.....I thought RA's Game Pass was free to members, never even read the details and I signed up for it. Then while reading further I realized there was a monthly fee so I called them this morning to cancel Game Pass and "Sylvia" said I have it on free trial till 4/29 and I have a $20.00 game credit. She suggested I keep it till then and use up my credit then cancel and owe nothing. Cool! So that's what I"m going to do. Just thought I'd let you know that good things can come from RA - lol. I just got Big Fish a couple weeks ago so I haven't had much experience with them yet. I must say though I have found so much free stuff, especially games to play online, since I've been at this forum that I won't need to spend $$$ for a while.

Just remember to cancel and request confirmation be sent to you!
The first month I was with Fish, I bought 12 games(thus completing my years contract),lol!
I have since tried to control myself, which is tough for a gamer(I don't think I beat Whabbit though)!
The $3.00 difference allows me 5 extra games a year.Suki

I had realarcade gamepass too, and I thought it was okay except for one problem. I got sick of games that I have the full version of expiring. That's the only problem I had with realarcade that I remember. I was told to redownload the game and install and unlock and that fixed the problem, but things like that shouldn't happen. I would have no way of doing that if I didn't have internet access. I like the new version of realarcade better. Maybe I will retry it once again.

Another great thing about BigFish Games: My daughter loves games, and she lives across the country from me. With BigFish, I can buy an extra game credit any time I like, for 6.99, and e-mail it to my daughter. She can then go in and choose any game she wants.
Also, even if you ever quit BigFish, your game credits will always be good until you use them. And even if you are no longer a member, if you ever lose a game from your PC for some reason, you can go to BigFish and re-download it at no charge.
These guys definitely know what they are doing, and they do it well. -Dan

Yes, that give as a gift feature is nice, that is one of the new things they implemented!
They used to only allow 5 re-downloads when they used Trymedia systems, I'm glad they got rid of them! When I bought a game, I would get one confirmation from BF, then another from Trymedia, their new system is far better! Looking in my Big Fish folder, Trymedia included another code to activate the game again. Fish dumped them in June of 2007.
My take, Fish went the right way, Ra went down the tubes!

I can run my RA games from the folder they load them to, I just made a shortcut of the whole folder!
My question would be(illegal), that even doing that you can't copy them to cd!Although, I bought them, I think it's unfair!
Big Fish has some games in their data base that are so old they could be Blue Cheese! At least I know they won't go away! If they did they would give you a credit for a new one, RA won't!

Sorry, no Vista downgrade for me!

I tried to burn my games to cd once, I succeeded in doing it too, but when I went to use the games on the disk they were all trials. I don't think you can do it that way or you have to do something else and copy another file to cd so they are not a trial version.

LOL, ya need to know how to hack it, which I DON'T!!!! I believe at Fish you can get a cd with your game on it, same for allot of the others. Get the game today, have the cd forever!

You can loose a cd too. I just liked to have a cd just in case we have no internet or something like that. I got ad-aware 2007 for signing up for superpass from realnetworks with trialpay today. I was a little skeptical at first with that, but it works. It's not 1,2,3 though. I waited probably over an hour after I signed up for the trial to get the information I needed. Lavasoft was the one who sent me my log in details and all that.
I have never used Ad-Aware's paid version till now.

I use Spybot Search and Destroy!
It's Free, so is Spyware Doctor if you get it with the Google pack.
Don't like Ad"s new new one at all, course I always used the free version.

P.S. The only thing I loose is, Myself!!!!!!!!

I don't like Spyware Doctor Starter Edition. I have a bunch of problems with it, it takes up a lot of resources still. I use S&D too (downloaded it the other day), though I used it a few years ago too, don't use tea timer in it though. Webroot Spysweeper isn't bad either, but for some reason I always have a problem logging off the computer with Spysweeper.
