My HP desktop came with one already partitioned 160 GB HD. One partition ( C:\) was used for the OS (XP pro sp2 in my case) and the other ( D:\ ) contains HP's Return to Manufacturer State data. The primary partition is formatted as NTFS and the second as FAT32. You can use both partitions but the second cannot be modified and if it is allowed to run, it will reformat the C partition.
OK. So here is my problem. Every time I start Partition Table Doctor a window pops up with the following message
'The parameters of the boot sector (hardisk 1,partition 2 ) have some errors, please use 'Fixboot' to fix'
I am afraid to break the Recovery partition using fixboot. I never had any problems staring the computer and if I just ignore the message, PTD states that the recovery partition is empty and can be used, which is strange in itself.
Can anyone explain what the message means? Is it safe to use Fixboot to fix it?
I don't want to break either partition by mucking around with the MBR.
TIA
