Can anyone tell me if there is any free software to download that tells you how much download usage you have used in a month, as I am limited to the amount I can download? Or can GOTD put it as a download of the day as I feel it would be most useful.

If your ISP limits how much you can download each month, then you should contact them - most provide a webpage or similar on their site that lets you query your usage so far.
Obviously they keep track of it - letting you see those figures should be part of the service they provide.

BuBBy, got any advice for isp's that track some traffic (centurytel isn't capped, but the outsourced (giganews) nntp is) when the techs adnit the reporting tool is nigh unto fantasy but won't fix it?
Poker-Ace, BitMeter does that monitoring just fine (I only use it to track speed, but...) on single computers. for lans it gets harder.

no problem at all, I feel a right idiot for hearing about 'pay-per-meg' and 'capped plans' and *not* making real sure there was a monitoring freeware on the freakin' freeware list.
especially when I was using it, just ignoring the totals.
It's there now.
Pass the ID 10T solvent, eh?

For my modem I have a SNMP Viewer and among other things can monitor WAN Data In and WAN Data Out. (Most decent modems should offer AT LEAST these statistics - check your documentation or the modems website - ask in the modems support forums or contact tech support).
So even on my network - at the point where it matters (on my modem) I can see total data sent and received to/from the internet.
This is more reliable because it includes ALL data (including any network overheads that would be missed by only running some application on each PC on my network - then excluding all LAN traffic - then adding the totals for each PC together.)
I just either make a note of the figures - or reset the counters at the start of each new billing period.

so far I haven't managed to pry the info out of 3com tech support to gain access to my router SNMP service, so I can't suggest a utility for it.
but I'm still trying!
I suspect you have a DSL bridge/gateway combo, BuBBy- not the separate items I have- my 'modem' is supremely stupid. (and 7 years old)
