i'm still getting used to the fact that there is no daylight savings in arizona, unless you live on land in the navajo nation. it's very confusing for me, because now the amount of time difference between me and anyone not in arizona has changed.

thanks maizey for the reminder- i need to remember what time it is when i call my loved ones.Posted 16 years ago # -
Great,
After reading your post and wondering how this may affect the GAOTD deadline I went to this site to learn more about it.
I didn't know that DST's rules changed in 2007 adding about a month to the number of days that are under it. Currently DST applies to about 65% of the year, that is 238 days. I didn't know that the time is officially changed at 2 am either, so there should be no confusion about GAOTD deadlines.
During ST Arizonans had until 1 am to install and activate the GAOTD. Now thanks to DST I have lost that extra hour and because of the change in rules I have to 'hurry up' and get the GAOTD early for an extra month.
Thanks for nothing DOT!

what's worse is that a recent study shows that while it saved candles in ben franklin's day, now it actually uses *more* power, not less.

And just to confuse things, I am *STILL* on AEDT until March 30 - then my Giveaway "epoch" will change for the second time in almost as many weeks.
Even in Australia - we have one of the only places in the world where two places at the same longitude in the same country are on different time zones. Queensland refuses to swap to Daylight Savings because the extra hour of sunlight "fades the curtains".
Anyways... it's all summarised here if you don't know what day or time it will be.

Uh Ooooh... the winds are howling, my PC clock turned 03:00hrs but GAOTD still reports nearly an hour of download time remaining. I feel like I'm straddling two dimensions!

cool, maizey- thanks for the info.

I did not know that... at least not for TZ episodes. Whilst surfing for a TZ midi/wav I was forced to delete Apple's QuickTime until I could figure out why it had shanghaied file formats from WinPlayer, and stumbled across a photo from one of the creepiest programs I can recall - the Zuni Fetish Warrior from Trilogy of Terror (it spent the whole program stabbing Karen Black's toes) eee! eeee! eeeh! :-)
Only thing creepier was the first time I saw Invaders From Mars (circa 1956?) and then almost smothered under pillows trying to fall sleep without exposing the back of my neck to the DRILL! (a little kid's mind and a dark room make for good comedy)

cool movie rune!
the one that freaked me out the most as a kid, was don't be afraid of the dark. man! i slept with my feet completely covered up until very recently (the "demons" drag a woman off by her ankles). and i couldn't even use my closet light to combat darkness, because that meant my closet door would be open and god only knows what could be in there!Posted 16 years ago # -
RM - I remember the Trilogy of Terror like it was just yesterday...I haven't thought about it for some time now. And for a reason...thanks! That little guy scared me so bad that I had to take a running leap to get into bed!

Well, it takes a lot to raise the hairs on my neck, so I'll only admit this here - and keep this just between you and me - I had grave reservations about putting my feet on the floor to GET to the bedroom! I have a vivid imagination and now amuse myself when opening the front door on a dark night by wondering if "he" is lurking right outside waiting to jump in as soon as the storm door opens. :-) BOO!
Funky, I had to visit Netflix & IMDB to refresh my mind. That sounded familiar but only when I saw Kim Darby's name did I remember it. A little hokey, but then it was specifically written to scare female basketball players. (whose feet naturally tend to stick out)

Oh please rune and maizey, don't do that with me.
"you can watch full length episodes at CSB.com"
uahhhhaaauu
Star Trek - full length episodes...
I was just going to check out of all duties for this day - YEAH - Star Trek
and then there came a voice "this content is ...not available" ; next episode "this content is ...not available";
people, that's too much for an old lady, I wanna have my full length episodes. What's that for service, EH ? CRAP -
I know a better episode, FREEE for ever, and you can encrypt your porn with the mistress without having to ask the administrator - oh, that was yesterday - I'm a bit late, SorryPosted 16 years ago # -
It wasn't my fault... she did it!
seriously, graylox, can you tell by looking at your firewall logs whether the problem lies with CBS not wanting to send things overseas (their server would identify your IP address as non-US, but your firewall log would show you reached their domain) or if you're being blocked because dur fatherland's playing censor? Either way, maybe you could try an end run by using an anonymizer? Just beware of some freebies. Some are not what they appear to be. (e.g., RU domains would top my suspect list, as would anything hosted by al Jazeera or the IRS.) :D
PS- did you get the onion recipe?
From a 2006 CNET forum-
You can do this by using a proxy, which is where your connection is first routed through someone else's computer. The 'detected region' will depend on which available IP address you use.
Now, some browsers, such as Firefox, include native support for using proxies. (Internet Explorer doesn't.) You just have to find a working proxy IP address and input it into Firefox. Alternatively, you could purchase sofware that finds IP addresses itself and works for all programs connecting to the internet, not just your browser.
To do it with Firefox:
1.) Click HERE for a list of free public proxy servers, updated daily.
2.) Choose one that's from the region you want.
3.) Go Tools->Options->General, and click on "Connection Settings" in Firefox.
4.) Select "Manual proxy configuration."
5.) Enter the IP address and port number.
6.) Check the box to "use this proxy server for all protocols."Posted 16 years ago # -
Rune, what do you think, why I am crying all the last days ?
can't find any log, that shows any domain names, and I don't think my fatherland would dare to censor my Star Trek only because I didn't recognize those erdgeistians, it seems to be your fatherlands helperlies, which don't want, that aliens see your cultural accomplishments...
I'll try those anonymizer from RUazeera - Thanks
graylox

didn't see, that you wrote some more advises,
after the next coffee, I'll try to understand
thank you, Rune,Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox (and rune)- i never heard of anonymizers until yesterday. bubby posted this link on another thread and it included anonymizers. here you go:

thanks, funky, I had those links for some month on my to-do list, and there they slept with some other interesting bookmarks, and gathered dust

Funky, always glad to introduce new ways to stick it to the intrusive bureaucrats. I've known about anonymizers since Anonymizer.com first launched in the mid-90's, but haven't used any in almost as long. Guess I'm just a radical underground groupie. :-)
