Good morning.. just got an email from my sister-in-law letting me know Hannah has an update in her "my diary" section of her web site. I used to check every day, but got to where I just checked periodically, so here it is:
http://members.cox.net/hannahandq/Diary.htmlThanks again for all of your concerns. I just hope going off her medication doesn't make things worse, and I'm wondering if her parathyroid ever did kick in!

she's a tough cookie, she'll pull through the "withdrawal" from her thyroid meds.
glad to see she's feeling better.Posted 16 years ago # -
I am taking it they must have had her on too high of a dose cause usually they won't just stop it at least not in any patients i have taken care of over the years. Or maybe because they are doing the body scan , but not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Just hope she is doing good and she didn't mention taking calcium so hopefully that has resolved *hugs* to you lauri and tell hannah we keep her in our prayers

I'm thinking it must have to do with the body scan, wouldn't you think? I've got to call and ask some of these questions. Get off track calling because of the 3 hour time difference! I'd imagine they got the calcium straightened out since she said things were getting back to normal. I take calcium supplements daily (1200) but that's for prevention of osteoporosis - OLD age!
Will try to find out more and post it.Posted 16 years ago # -
I wouldn't think so but then again we aren't certain of which body scan it is i am assuming it is a MRI but there is other ones but hard to say if that is the case. Will wait to here how it went and how she is doing though:)

When you mix body scans and calcium and target tracers (radioactive idodine) uptake, you have to consider how the thyroid replacement med might obfuscate the desired result of the scan. Perhaps they're doing a calcium scoring or need to see if it is covering up signs that her parathyroids having kicked in. Not surprisingly, there may be a "method" to the doc's counterintuitive "madness" (instruction to quit taking TRM) that laymen wouldn't normally consider. Google finds a lot of material with the right combo of search terms. There's even a site advocating against the growing use of TRM, but who knows if that's a crackpot or a legitimate theory.

I am sure she is going to do fine. Thanks for the update, copmom. Let her know we are still pulling for her. :)

As I recall, when they mentioned the body scan originally, it was to see if the cancer had spread anywhere else in her body.
On another thought, do you think if I STOP taking my thyroid meds I'll lose some weight?? Just tried on a dress I got 12 years ago, and it won't fit anymore! The zipper won't zip up! Argggggggh!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Actually copmom if you stop taking that med you might notice you can't fit into the clothes you are now wearing thyroid medicine actually increases your metabolism might need your dose increased which might help you if it has been ages since you had your levels checked might want to consider it:)
Posted 16 years ago # -
rune, thanks for the explanation of the methods in your link! It helps explain a few things.
bluhoteyes, I do have my levels checked annually. Hummmm, maybe I need to double my dose to increase my metabolism even more! Just kidding! Actually I know what my major problem is.. it's sitting in front of this computer for too, too long!!!Posted 16 years ago # -
hehehehe get one of those little excercise pedals to do exercise while sitting at the computer that is one solution:) lol
Posted 16 years ago # -
how about that gadget they make for kids now, where you have to pedal in order for the video game to work? i think that would be the end of my gaming days. ;D
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hey.. those items might solve a lot of problems! Say....just spoke to my son and he said Hannah is doing fine, but to quote him, "dragging her knuckles" since she stopped her meds, but they have to be completely out of her system before she takes that scan. Then we spent the rest of our conversation with him telling me about refilling my ink cartridges and where to get the kit, etc. etc.

copmom - I check Hannas website regularly for updates too. It's good to hear that she is OK.
I've found the perfect thing for your online workout. I saw this a couple of days ago and when I read the posts above...I just had to! :)

maizey- that is too funny.

Now wouldn't that be just perfect! ROFL
Posted 16 years ago # -
maizeydaze i say to heck with that i want to sit at the computer:) lol so give me that exercise pedals and i think that should be enough strenuous exercise ... Happy she is doing better i keep her in my prayers daily

Oh and copmom 123inkjets.com is pretty cheap on ink cartridges and you don't have to make a huge mess with refilling those old ones. Trust me i have tried it and in the end i will pay the extra to have it done for me and it isn't much more then what it would cost for actual ink that you would fill at least not on my ink cartridges . Hope this helps

copmom - Glad you liked the fitness machine.
In the past I've bought ink from Carrot Ink because of their prices and quality. The only problem I had with them was they send too many advertising emails after you buy. And I've tried filling them too and what a mess!

I keep getting faxes from 123inkjets.com (I think they're trying to use my ink up printing their faxes), but here's the site my son told me about and said he uses them all the time. After several fill ups he said you do need to just toss and get a new cartridge to start over again but that they go through several cartons of 20 reams each very quickly. They home school 3 kids and he has police reports to write and also sermons to prepare, and pictures to print out, so they use a LOT of ink and paper.
http://www.tonerfillingstation.com/
I went there and they have diagrams on HOW to fill your cartridges, and he also said he periodically fills them with a solvent to keep things from getting gunked up. From what I read there, basically the ink is contained in sponges!Gee.. just checked the pricing on 123inkjets and yes, they are reasonable! I get a lot of my office supplies from Quill and when I tried their brand for the HP's I have, I had a lot of problems.. in fact they don't even sell them anymore! Another thing I learned the hard way, cartridges don't have an indefinate shelf life! They dry up. I think 1 year is max. One time tech support for my Dell printer had me sit my cartridge in a bit of warm water and that fixed it up.

copmom - Did you check Carrot ink? Their cartridges hold 2X the ink as OEM cartridges. I used their ink to print 350 invitations, envelopes, thank you card, pillow boxes for favors, giant signs and much more when hubby and I got married a little over two years ago. The ink was nice, colors were good and it went a long way.
Here is the front of the thank you card.

Oh how pretty maizey! No, let me check Carrot right now. When I went to 123's site, a chat box popped up to tell me they'd give 10% right now on the currently low prices. Said no thank you.. she persisted! LOL Finally said I'd bookmark them and when needed I'd keep it in mind.
By the way, just checked, carrot is $12.95 and 123 is $9.95 for the same thing. Didn't think to check how much they held, OEM, etc. when comparing the pricing.

copmom - Just looked at amount of ink for printers other than my Hp Photosmart D7360 and they didn't have 2X ink. For mine they do.

maizy.. I've just been on HP's site and Tiger Direct and another place looking and comparing photo smart all in 1 printers (office jet, photo smart, flatbed scanners, etc.)
Now I'm getting totally confused.. been making notes of the customer ratings. So far the #4385 seems to have higher ratings than others, some have NO LCD, some are reported noisy. So many variables! Let me look up your model # and see what it offers!
Nice size LCD and looks good but doesn't have the flatbed scanner with it, or does it? Couldn't find that in the specs.Posted 16 years ago # -
copmom - I got mine over a year ago at Staples. It's just a (big) printer. Best Buy, Staples, Circuit City all have some good sales at times. I usually check them and compare with the prices of Amazon, Tiger and whoever else I can think of. Another site I check is http://dealspl.us/. Type in search criteria like "all in one printer" then when the results come up click the box for "hide expired" then click the search button beside the box. You'll get a list of all the deals that other users found. You can refine your search with the dropdowns at the top. This is where I found my $100 Logitech MX Revolution mouse for only $30.

maizey, another site that's good is http://www.slickdeals.net People send in deals they've found all over for all kinds of items as well as rebates and code numbers for those rebates. I've gotten some really good deals through them for DVD-R's and jewel cases, etc. Things change on there daily, so if searching for something gotta check every day or so and there are expiration dates on several offers.
