ceramic tile?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Looks like I missed a lotta fun last night......DARN!
G29.....Is it Funky's tissue after everyone got done blowing their noses in it?
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, not tile, and I don't think ceramic fits.
no tissue. used or not.
no termites. Termites couldn't scratch it. nor could rats.
The gridwork pattern is a sort of woven reinforcing mat of fibers.

G29....some sort of stucco or siding material?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Is it what my brain will look like after viewing the pic for so long?
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, this is part of a tool.
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox- klingon teeth probably could cut stone.
the head of a mallet or hammer?
or maybe an axe?Posted 16 years ago # -
A Vice?
Posted 16 years ago # -
no to all of the above. this is a part that needs replaced periodically.
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, more a mechanic's tool. metalworking, usually. nice lunch, though.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Is it the surface of a sanding block....the part that you stick the sandpaper on?
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, though it is abrasive in function.
Posted 16 years ago # -
part of a lathe?
--------------
or a floor sander?
or maybe a marble floor polisher?
my ex-husband used to do marble restoration and i know the polisher used "diamond pads", this looks like it could be that, although i never saw one up close.Posted 16 years ago # -
I think it looks like part of a sander too! Or a cement floor prepped with glue to put tile on.
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, no a diamond pad or polisher, you're close but not on with sanding.
but I'm gonna break this one off and tell you, since this is going on too long and you've come close all around.
it's a metal cutting disc.
have a fuzzy green wallpaper for trying- :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
metal cutting disc - what material is that made of (sorry, I'm not a tool gal)
nice veggy picture :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
thanks goodguy. (hope you approve of the new nickname)
:DPosted 16 years ago # -
very much like a grindstone, only thin (1/8") and rated for the 25,000+ rpm range of rotation in use.
fiberglass or Kevlar weave, with resin (no clue what kind- high strength, high-temperature) binding a matrix of carborunum cutting grit into a disc. There's an air-driven die grinder out of sight behind it that it's attached to.
I was out in the front yard getting more shots of these pretty little flowering plants (square stem, so I know it's a member of the mint family, just too lazy to look it up) and these fuzzy little plants caught my eye.
as for the nickname, I'm with creamypretzel as far as easy about nicknames- (I too have been called *lots* of un-nice things- but words ain't bullets- I'm immune) as long as nobody takes the 'good' part too seriously.
A saint I ain't, I just believe in not biting without fair warning.

a reindeer with champaign, another with beer, a ram, a sheep.
but are those last 3 circular cutouts from the same picture, 3 views of the same item at different angles, or 3 similar items-on-a-theme?

Gray08 - A seed pod?

"Goodguy"? Well, I suppose that's better than "Wiseguy". Your cutoff wheel...I recognized that material, but couldn't, for the life of me, think of what it was. I knew I had something made out of it, but was thinking something square and electrical. I have about a dozen of those wheels, only smaller, for my Dremel. Humph! That was a good puzzler! :)Posted 16 years ago # -
[grin] yeah, the dremel cutoff wheels are much smaller radius so they don't need the internal fiber support to run at 15k rpm. got a stack myself- but cutting 6 inch square holes in 1/16" stainless plate, well- dremel wheels you'd need a warehouse full.
It's about 3" diameter, started off at 3-1/2"- just worn enough to bring out the fibers and make you think square, without circular grooves to give the rotation away. and I cropped to accent that.
that's why I folded- too good a sucker punch, not fair.
besides, I like sharing my better snaps- not personal stuff, but I like the idea of people enjoying the 'wow, that's neat!' ones.
I was thinking snail shells- saltwater, freshwater or an odd species of dry land I dunno.
If that's a set of separate pix- if not, mineral/hot springs? the internal tint could be mineral-saturated water...
I wonder how many others promptly save the sample images and toss a battery of graphics tools at them? zoom, sharpen, emboss- if you have IrfanView (with the 8bf plugin) or photoshop, the Free Topaz DeJPEG (bottom of page) can be handy.
just using the browser to squint at 'em stinks.
found what looks like a useable tripod for a light camera for 6 bucks, free shipping- amazon wants 20, plus shipping- for the same model: Vidpro TT-250. another 7 at ace hardware gets a fence post bullseye level that'll take the guesswork out of setting it up, too.
:)

Goodguy, Thanks to the link for Free Topaz DeJPEG. I wonder if it'll work with PSE? I do have IrfanView, but haven't used it much.
Nice find on the cheap tripod. Seems too good to be true. If you get it, let us know how it is.

Now I have some language problems.
Let's see : seed - no; pod - no?; snail - no, saltwater - yesI think you'll get it now.
But I want to show the other pics too :Need a hint ? From the Animal Kingdom

Thanks for the cartoon, graylox! You wanna know something? I've never changed a "poopy" diaper! I've always, conveniently, handed stinky babies back to their mommy, daddy or other willing person. I hope to continue this trend...forever!
BTW, do you know what those "barnacle barrels" are used for?

will report on the tripod- supposed to be rated for 3 pounds of cam and weighs half that. here's the amazon link.
a couple vendors have 'em, in truckload lots, apparently- they sell cams all the way up to 3-lens-and-dslr-body kits, and it appears that one of these and a table 'pod (99 cents, free ship) go into the kits.
like this Canon Rebel XTi 10MP Digital SLR Camera w/ 3 Lens+Bags+ for 899.00 with:(1) Canon Rebel XTi body, (1) Tamron 28-80mm, (1) Tamron 75-300mm, (1) High Resolution Wide Angle Lens, (1) 4 Gigabyte Compact Flash, (1) Professional Tripod, (1) Table top Tripod, (1) 3 Piece Cleaning Kit, (1) Lens Filter Set, (1) USB Card Reader, (1) Aluminum Hardcase, (1) Deluxe Soft Camera Case, (1) Tamron Lens Bag.
lots of Vidpro TT-250's and a very few ~150 clam Bogen Manfrotto tripod bases at the end of the list. the other place same tripod is 99 cents and 4.95 shipping.
