    goodgotd- that name looked so familiar. s.m. stirling (with jan stirling) has a story in the book i'm reading now, and i've read some other stories before.

    I'm not surprised, he writes a heckuva tale-

    Warlord and Conqueror are the first 2 books in The General series, and david drake came in as collaborator.

    "The General series was originally published as five separate novels: The Forge, The Hammer, The Anvil, The Steel, and The Sword. Conqueror is the second and concluding part of the Raj Whitehall saga, which began in the first compendium volume, Warlord."

    S.M. Stirling instantly became known as a talented new writer of military SF for his highly acclaimed, widely-read "Draka" series, which began with Marching Through Georgia, His collaborative novel with Anne McCaffrey, The City Who Fought, was a national bestseller. In addition to his popular General series, written in collaboration with David Drake, he has also collaborated with Jerry Pournelle on both the best-selling Man-Kzin Wars series and the Falkenberg's Legion series, recently collected in one volume as The Prince. His alternate history series which began with Island in the Sea of Time has also been very popular.

    unfortunately, since becoming a parent i have almost no time to read. so i mostly read short story anthologies. and when i read anthologies, i tend to read sci-fi/fantasy (usually humorous).

    she actually said to me recently, "mommy, you don't like to read." i, nicely, explained to her that i love to read, but that she doesn't like to give me any private time to do so.

    soon my daughter will be in school and, hopefully, i will have more time to read again.

    creamypretzel: nope, I don't have that long a... lens.

    I took the first shot of this a couple weeks ago, never cropped and renamed it so it was easier to take the camera out and snap another still- the other 4 are new targets.
