Made the best onion soup today. I'd made this soup once several years ago, then lost the recipe. I've made onion soup with other recipes but it was never as good. Today I found the recipe card. Mmmmmm, yummy! Try it.

I think my extrapolater is on the fritz. the bits are there but what the whole could be eludes me.
Here's what I see- refer to image- area a is slightly concave, vertical, between the brighter horizontal lines- only an impression/guess says it's convex horizontally.
area b is convex vertical, rolling over to a flat or nearly flat top. or the top blends into the background. coated steel from the look.
the light of the flash is coming in from above and left, arrow c- making the dark band d a shadow from the flash and a deep concavity, while e is concave vertical, and if glass (rather than appearing powder-coated or bead-blasted aluminum) I'd be guessing a pop-off or short-throw screw type lid with a fat jar under it. paint?
f has me stumped, unless it's the edge of a handle of a lift-up lid for a sugar or cream dispenser.
am I in the ballpark on what I see, maisey?

Goody.....boy you really get into analyzing don't you? Whew! I'm impressed!
I thought too that it looks like some sort of contaiiner but I was thinking more on the lines of an apothecary or cookie jar, or one of those pet treat jars.
How bout a clue Maizey?
Posted 16 years ago # -
apothecary.... old maybe would account for the steel, but should be chromed- but aluminum?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Jim Bob..err...I mean Goody, just woke to let the dogs out. You certainly have been examining that picture closely.
Well, lets see..
a - Is ever so slightly, concave.
b - Is convex and continues arcing over the top and back down the other side. It forms a rim.
c - No flash, direct overhead florescent shop light
d - This is a shadow from the a/b section. Not concave but rather e flattens out slightly then bends at a 45 degree angle toward the area under a/b. Not coated.
e - and a, b, and d are all made of the same aluminum. Not a pop-off or short-throw screw type lid.
f - Is in the center-top of the item. The item is round and about 3" in diameter.
This is a common department or hardware store item.Posted 16 years ago # -
Elizabeth: What holds the stars up in the sky?
Jim Bob: They're stuck up there on something.
Elizabeth: What makes them fall?
Jim Bob: Oh they burn out like electric light bulbs.
Elizabeth: How come you're so much smarter than me?
Jim Bob: I'm older.
Elizabeth: Goodnight, Jim Bob.
Jim Bob: Goodnight Elizabeth.Posted 16 years ago # -
Alarm clock rings.
Olivia: Ben, turn that off!
Ben: I can't, it's stuck!
Olivia: You'll wake up John-Boy!
Mary Ellen: John-Boy!
John-Boy: I'm already woken.
Mary Ellen: John-Boy's back.
Olivia: Well let him get some sleep.
Mary Ellen: Goodnight John-Boy!
Ben: Goodnight John-Boy.
John-Boy: G'night.
Jason: Goodnight John-Boy.
Mary Ellen: Goodnight John-Boy.
Elizabeth: But it's daytime! You can't say goodnight..... Good morning John-Boy.
John-Boy: Good morning Elizabeth.

Didn't I supply a detailed enough description of MD#43? Any more guesses?Posted 16 years ago # -
goody, that rock looks MUCH better without the red background. Now it's not so bloody looking! After 'dressing' my hubby's back from his surgery, I've seen enough blood! Have to do that daily now. Irrigate with peroxide, and recover with gauze and tape. I think the surgeon was trying to dig his way to China with that opening!
maizey, that soup sounds SOOO good! and NO clue to MD#43
Tonight we'll have left over Chinese. And then perhaps in the next day or two I'm going to make some chicken pot pies (using freezer pie shells), with the great bargain on chicken legs/thighs I bought yesterday. 10-lb. bag at 58 cents a pound. Will freeze half of that and cook up the rest. Will make 2 pies to bring one over to daughters. Then I'm thinking since it's gloomy weather out, shrimp gumbo sounds good too!
Gee, I'm making me hungry! And I have NO clue on that MD#43..
HOPE this post doesn't come through twice, when I clicked 'send post' got an error saying internal server error. Now says 504 Gateway time out! I think the servers having problems?Posted 16 years ago # -
You're all making me hungry and I have no clue what #43 is even after doing this to the pic MD43revised
Ooh, wait a sec.....is it something you'd put in a drill?
Posted 16 years ago # -
...looks like an ancient roller paintbrush to me.
:)Posted 16 years ago # -
copmom, you did get a screaming deal on the chicken. And you are going to be cooking up a storm! I had problems with the site this morning too.
Buckleysmom, if you would just make the center piece a bit wider it would look just like the item. That is looking at it straight on and omitting the side profiles. I was surprised when I saw you pic! Oh, it's not any part of a drill or used with a drill.
Robert, it's not a roller paintbrush. It's not ancient, either. They look just like this new.
The part that is shown in the picture wouldn't be seen until you used it. After use you would typically cover it back up. This particular one wasn't covered when I found it setting on my shelf. I have many more. I pick them up when I can find them cheap.

Maizey,
Isn't that ...a box people have in the kitchen to put bread in?
I guess not,it's upside down
:)Posted 16 years ago # -
err... covered- the rim or all?
Posted 16 years ago # -
BK.. how did you make the picture clearer?? Is it a lid for a pressure cooker?
On 2nd thought, is it a wheel for a chair leg as in those rolling office chairs?Posted 16 years ago # -
Robert, this is nothing for the kitchen.
goody, yes it's all covered when you buy it off the shelf. I guess there are a few types that may not have the large convex area covered.
copmom, it's not a wheel for a chair leg.

aluminum? butane?

goody, you got it! I knew those last hints would give it away. It's a can of spray paint!
Here is your Sad Puppy Wallpaper. This is a shot of a small bottle. It's only about 3" tall, marked on his buttocks; on one side of his tail is 15295 and Germany on the other side. His crown has a cork attached as a stopper. I think it may be quite old. He so ugly that he's cute.
Posted 16 years ago # -
you got me good on that one. funny, the lower rim I'd have recognized, took this to show I never paid attention to the upper join.
yep, homely mutt.

Yes I take a scone, with orange marmalade, thank you, - but the pic is no sconePosted 16 years ago # -
looks more like a flatbread or cracker, not that imo there's really that much difference in basics, though the variants range from crisp to slightly risen and doughy, bland-salt to sweet, toasted to baked.
that looks toasted, sorta. dry-fried?
much too thin for scones- being a barbarian peach-apricot preserves and cream cheese on herb scones is first on the list. Yum.
Posted 16 years ago # -
goodgotd hm, looks really like cream cheese with peach apricot ... but NO
SorryPosted 16 years ago # -
