you got me! It's a medium brown egg!
as for the other, it's a single metal yet brittle, as these chips on the edge show.
actually it's one end cut off a bar, and was used to grip the bar by the ends.

it's a piece of metallic silicon, one of the ends where the impurities (a few parts per million) were dragged by zone refining, aka Zone melting.
it's the metal part of glass. and quartz. and agate. Silicone seal, etc. sure looks different, huh?
and- the part that was kept, is cut into wafers, and made into transistors, integrated circuits... cpu's... digital camera photosensors, flash memory...
