Good.....#16 has me stumped, that looks like a keyhole, but if there's "no hatches or moveable covers" then I guess it wouldn't need a keyhole now would it. Hmmmmmm...... it looks like maybe something would fit into the round area....hmmmmmm
On another note.....Buckley woke us at 4:45 this am barking at the mouse varmint. Hubby said (hopefully), "he's just barking at something outside", I said, "nope, that's not his outside bark, he's got that mouse cornered again". Hubby checked it out and sure enough mouse had gone into a crack behind the steps. Hubby thought it went down into the basement and Buckley was just still smelling it and "hoping" it would return. He came back to bed. Buckley continued barking and started scratching on the step. I knew something more was up. Decided I wasn't going to sleep with him barking anyway so I got up and came down to check it out. With super duper, extra long (about 18") heavy flashlight in one hand and broom in other, both to be used for protection as needed, I peered behind the step and when Buckley backed away ever so slightly I saw Mr Mousey's little bitty nose as he dared peek out to see if the coast was clear for making a mad dash out of his hiding place. I yelled up to hubby, "we have mouse". It obviously has nowhere to go except out the way it came in, so as Buckley keeps the mouse at bay, I get the trap we set out 2 nights ago. It's one of these plastic see through boxes with the door that flips in as they enter then closes behind them. It's baited with a small cracker and PB. I set the door end right up against the back of the step, it's like 2 inches from the mouse. Buckley's first reaction is to paw the trap. I knew he wouldn't back off his guard dog duty so I coaxed him outside to take a p-p. Then I watched the dreaded monster behind the stairs. Stupid little critter started to come out ON TOP of the box/trap. Hmmm....maybe NOT so stupid. I shine the light on him and he shies back into his hiding place. I turn off the light and wait......is that?.......yes, I believe it is......it's the little door flap moving. Me wants desperately to turn on the light but me knows it will frighten little beast so me waits.......just a bit.........stand still.........don't move...............CLICK. He's in! Hey, hubby, we got us a varmint. Yyyyyyaaaaaaayyyyyyyy we did it! Good job Buckley, good boy!!!!! So, that's one down. The bad news is that I am 93% sure this is a different mouse from the other day. That one was longer, skinnier and ugly, dark brown, almost black.......yucky. This one was smaller, gray and white and actually kinda cute for such a ferocious beast. So traps are reset at new locations and waiting again. Poor Buckley has not left the point of contact. He's been laying on the rug facing the back of the step, with his nose only about a foot away from the crack/hiding place....and there he sleeps....waiting........jumping at the slightest sound, while hubby nods out on couch. So......there's the whole story.
