air conditioner filter?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi, Goody. I've spent some time familiarizing myself with the forum. You hooked me. This is my first post.
Is it an awning?
Posted 16 years ago # -
nope, the 1999 dated assembled unit (the first, weather-sealed pictures) has some flex in it but is designed as a rigid assembly. I can span it with my arms.
the 1986 era unit is as brittle as glass and I can easily cover it with my hand.

Geesh! That 2nd picture looks SO familiar!!!!

Solar panel?
Posted 16 years ago # -
yep.
the first is a Uni-Solar US-64 thin-film polycrystalline solar panel, the other a single-crystal single cell.
Gotta figure out problems with hosed hosting before I can post pix.

.......So maizeydaze got it!.......eehhhhaa, but goody?...no prize?
Busy Lady....welcome to the Forum, this ended as soon as you appeared!, do return!Paulga
Posted 16 years ago # -
VERY good maizey!!! Maybe I couldn't get it because I've not looked at a solar panel? LOL
Posted 16 years ago # -
prizes there shall be, but delayed they are.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody - Have you noticed that I guess unless I'm pretty sure about the answer these days? I don't think I've ever looked that close at a solar panel, but I do remember you saying that you used them. And then some of your hints helped immensely. I can wait for my prize until you get things figured out. Thanks.
Busy Lady - A welcome from me too! Stick around. Goody puts some dandies up for us to guess.

Thank you, Paulga and Maizeydaze for your welcome messages. I'll be around--as time permits, of course. Goody is only late because he didn't think anyone would get it! :) You have had some humdingers yourself, Maizey. I look forward to the next challenge.

dunno whats up at picattic, but until better options happen, try this:
here's the the us-64 panel at the edge of a cell, the us-64 panel frame, and the collection grid on the front of an old 3" cell.
here's a 4 pack of wallpapers to download.

Well guess what? Even tho' I now know what "it" is.. I still couldn't tell anything from the pictures! :P
And let me add my welcome to Busy Lady! Poking around these forums will really keep you busy!Posted 16 years ago # -
Thanks, copmom. My dad was a cop, so I'm partial to the breed.
Posted 16 years ago # -
But they DO have a warped sense of humor, don't they? And both my sons are cops.. double trouble! In fact one just called to wish his dad a happy Father's Day, we spoke briefly, I asked, did you want to speak to your dad, he said, "of course.. I didn't call to speak to YOU!" Grrrrrrrrr.

here's overview shots of the us-64 solar array panel and a 4" solar cell- sorry, thought it was 3".
Posted 16 years ago # -
I'm with copmom on this one. Even seeing it all, I wouldn't have recognized it.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody, Thanks! That Nigela is pretty.
So, Busy Lady, how long have you been lurking around here? I did it, myself, for almost a year before I joined in. :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
this boggles me. Although anywhere in the usa is boggling. if they use them in drain with solar, they oughta have em all over- solar powered construction warning signs
as an ex-californian, I wonder what all the highway 911 poles use for juice- has it been so long?
Posted 16 years ago # -
maisey: I've been lurking through the forum for a couple of weeks--getting the lay of the land. You folks all seem like my sort, so I jumped in. Been a fan of GOTD for much longer.
goody: Just because a thing is available to see doesn't mean I got an up-close-and-personal look at it. Shuks, it doesn't look like the stuff on my solar garden lights. ;) But then again, their solar plates are only a few inches across. I'll try to be more observant in the future. Can I still play?
Posted 16 years ago # -
sure you can play. lotsa solar panels, various construction methods over the years.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Busy Lady.. you have to watch out for goodys "what is it" things.. he's pretty tricky!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Busy Lady, can I call you BL? We're happy you like us! And, I, wholeheartedly, agree with copmom about Goodys' things. They've typically, been much harder than anything I've put up here. :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
heh. got a hand-me down new couch a-comin' and a new gwii once it's here. just you wait.
most yard lights (and yeah, 911 phones and such) use the almost-black few-collector wire low-current old-generation polycrystalline 'slab' cells- almost all types minimize the collector grid as they get newer- wires don't make juice.
these are examples of late-90's high current high efficiency triple-thin-film polycrystalline array tech (same company makes floating roll-up panels for boat storage) and early 80's single-crystal high-current best. (not very)

Ewwww.. we find those things growing here and there in the yard, and I dig them out with a trowel as fast as I can, wearing gloves, of course! Or it's something that looks just like that.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hey we have those things too, just popped up all of a sudden and we've been wondering what they are. Does anyone know? They're nasty.
Hi BusyLady.....welcome to the forums!
