After installing Arcon Toys on my Vista Home Premium PC it opened fine with music and picture before suddenly getting an error message saying Memory access violation. Can anyone tell me how to fix this as the game looks like it might be a lot of fun.

Don't create two threads on the same subject.
It does not work correctly on Vista:
System Requirements: Windows 95/98/NT/2k/Me/XP

I have the same issue and I'm not using Vista. I have Xp home, Sp2. I've tried all the things on the ggotd site. Thanks ahead for your help.

I can't get it to work either and tried all the "fixes" on the giveaway thread. This is a new computer running on XP SP2 with much much more than the minimun requirements.

I've spent a few hours trawling the web searching for answers, and tried the fixes from the comments section and no deal. :( I bought this game a few years ago and it worked fine until I upgraded all of my computers to dual core systems over the past year, the game wont play on any of them now. I thought it may have been that the zip file I'd saved to disc from my original download had become corrupted, but todays game gives exactly the same error, which would lead me to think that it's either the cpu or possibly windows updates that have caused this; though I can't explain why some can play it an others can't.
It's a real shame as I thought this was one of those unusual arkanoids that was well worth keeping. Though an alternative with similar gameplay, but not as colorful would be Waveball:Root revision. It has similar ball physics, a similar moving platform and also has the camera in the ball view, which is activated by certain power ups. It's just as zany, though the graphics are a lot more muted than Arcon toys. You can check out a demo by followingthe link below:

The price is reasonable enough. Oddly I got my copy on a CD which came in one of those boxed sets you can buy from places like Netto. The one I bought was called Mega Game Box and had 40 games, some of which such as Platypus, Marbles 3D and scooter pro were excellent and well worth the $16 I paid for them. (I didn't know waveball: root revision was included at the time).
I've never seen any other arkanoids like Arcon toys and Waveball root revision befor. Waveball is much harder to play than Arcon toys and thus much more challenging, partly because the bat is so small. The only down side to Waveball is that it employs that antiquated saving system where you have to remember codes to access the levels you've played. So like other arkanoids such as Arcamania, which also has codes I rarely play as i never remember where that scrap of paper went, lol.
Let's hope a fix is forthcoming as I really want to play Arcon Toys. I do intend to search further, so will post anything if I get it to work. :)

this is from poing, might it be the problem here?
Known Bugs
IMPORTANT: Poing cannot be run in a limited account of Windows XP! (you’ll encounter an access violation error if you try). Because of the way the game writes hiscores and levels in the level editor, Poing must be run in an unrestricted user or administrator accountPosted 16 years ago # -
Maybe, though not for me as all my computers are set to admin accounts (as only the family use them; though sometimes I wish I'd not set them so, as the kids, especially Cal have changed settings, lol.

yeah, but you haven't got the problem, right?
I'm the same, but no yard apes allowed exept on terri's computer, which is pretty much isolated in many ways from the rest of the lan.

Yes I do have the problem, which is annoying as before I updated all my computers to dual core Arcon Toys worked fine. :( I've just reinstalled Waveball root revision as an alternative. It's not as bright and cheery, but it has basically the same gameplay. I've posted a link to a demo of the game above. :)

On my XP Pro Sp2 I am the only user on my computer where I am the administrator. I get the violation error. Where are some of the fixes located? I would really like to give this game a try.

YOu'll find them in the comments section. One is to turn off the DEP protection. See the comments in the games section about midway down. Sorry I need to go to bed otherwise I'd be more specific. (It's after 3am here in the UK)
I just found this that makes other suggestions:

Hmm,
This time logging out and back in does not fix the problem like the other MAV. I am going to try rebooting but I have a feeling that it won't work. Having so many complaints about MAV you would think that the error can be reproduced easily.
I use to work for a software development company and reproducible bugs were the best because you could track it down using the source code, a build with the debugging flag turned on and a debugger.
I guess the company behind this game couldn't reproduce the error but if they are reading our posts they know by now that there's a bug that prevents the game from running on some computers.
I am going to keep it installed. I hope that sometime in the future the game will work because it looks like the error comes from some OS configuration that the unfortunate ones share and the lucky gamers do not.
Just my opinion.

ps: Sorry about the thread I started, I should have read the titles of the existing ones more carefully and post here instead of starting a new thread, but I swear I didn't see this one when I went looking for answers in the forums, where they should be.

After hesitating a long time, I now wanted to try my luck and installed this fantastic game. It's the only arkanoid my system and my mouse and my hand-eye-coordination really like. It ran smoothly until - yes, you could guess it, until the MAV came up.
Please, dear developer, repair this bug !
