You will need to create a shortcut of the executable file which looks like a small red rocket. I've posted a link to a small tutorial on how to create a shortcut over in the comments section.
You can find it by following the link below:

I hope this helps. Let me know and if you need any more help just ask as there's a great bunch of people here who will go out of their way to help you with any problems related to the software or computers in general.

thank you for your response, I just did it and got black screen and after message- Memory access violation. Any idea from here?

Someone in the comments section has mentioned a fix for that. I'm no tekky though, just enthusiastic about my computer.
Lee mentions the following:
To anyone getting a memory access violation error, you need to exclude the American billiards.exe file from data execution protection in order for it to work.
Control panel>system>advanced>performance settings>data execution protection> click on add then locate and select the .exe file. he then went on to say in the next post:Or else you can just select ‘turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only’.
I"m sure I read something else about a fix, possibly by running a debug program. Check out the comments section:

I'll be offline for some time as I need to sleep. So if none of the above prove fruitful try installing to a different location as opposed to the default location?

jonasltu,
1) does the error message include any code, such as error 0xC0000005?
2) was the game installed by a user account with full admin rights?
3) have you tried reinstalling/upgrading to the latest .NET framework service pack?Posted 16 years ago # -
Here's some more possible fixes that i found from the previous day:
At startup I got a “memory access violation” which was easily fixed by debugging the .exe file to realocate the memory blocks. Works like a charm, with graphics turned wide open on my Win-XP, Athlon 3800, NVidia, 7800.
and
memory access violation is likely due to hardware DEP being enabled in all but selected applications since it has been reported that DEP in XP caused a similar error. I used to run with DEP set for all apps but found too many sloppily written programs that just made it impractical to use. This runs fine in vista home premium in its default DEP configuration for me. MS Virtual PC will not be of any use for programs requiring a 3D video card as it only emulates a basic 2D card.
I've lifted thetext straight out of the comments sections.

Insightful Game Comment #75 by Jason C -
"I would like to let everyone know that its not fully compatible on ATI Laptop Graphics Cards. You will most commonly get a memory access violation error."
Marc, in post #79, recommends a shareware billiards program called DDD Pool. Here's the free trial version for DDD Pool. Marc correctly notes that today's game - American Billiards (for that matter, every billiards/snooker software game I've played) comes up lacking in the physics department. No way to put a little English on the ball. OTOH, when you're using a PC, you can't rake the butt end of your pool cue through expensive wooden louver blinds just because your game room's a little small for a pro-size table!
Can't vouch for this site, but it links to a bunch of the competition -

I have DDD pool, it is indeed very similar to todays offering, same number of different rooms to play, variable shaped pool tables and a selection of different games. The graphics are basically the same too.
I'm glad you got things sorted. :)
