NO! But you can backup your system and that will work. You are supposed to do this anyway. It is part of preventive maintenance. :)

I was trying to find help on this topic and came across this. I had to have my computer reformatted right before New Years and I did exactly as it said; I backed up all the things I wanted to keep onto an external hard drive. I've just now gone into it to check on the programs and games that I got from here and EVERY one of them says I have an unregistered version. Any ideas? Thanks.

Just copy the registry key that registers the software and after a format double click the .reg key after reinstalling the software, or do it before.
I do backup my system using NG 10.
However I do a full back up then increments.
So if I installed it today, then tomorrow found serious errors and had to restore an image back before installing the free software it would not activate via net again as 24 hours is up.
So I back up all keys which I had created to activate the software.

NG 10 = Norton Ghost?
That's nice to have incremental backups. I use Acronis (though I haven't used it to full extent yet - only created a system restore image).
As the GAotD team has remained silent about this issue, and I being an advocate of safe computing, here's a little tutorial on registry backups...I'll try and expound more on it later (should it be neccessary):
For those who do not understand registry backups is a good starter:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756The important branches that you need are:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSEverything else (on the most part) is not needed as keys are created in either of those 2 branches (if they go by industry standard) as:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE (EX. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\eBook Maestro In this case, export this entire branch)
HEKY_CURRENT_USERS\SOFTWAREIf they are doing it via non standard means, then the key can be ANYWHERE (pretty much and you'll have to search for it [CTRL+F (find), F3 (find next])!
Just a note: DO NOT just take the entire \SOFTWARE section - these also contain Windows registry settings - if you reinstalled Windows you DO NOT want to overwrite those new settings with the old settings. Too many settings (I cannot remember but some may be activation specific for Windows). So all in all, just export the branch you need. Else, you'll end up with a monster file which you'll need to pick at later.

Lee, all the programs and games I've gotten on this site don't show a reg. key. They only give an activation for it and when you try and activate it after the 24 hours are up it won't let you. If you know how to get the key, that would surely be helpful. Thanks.

I do realize the key is part of the activation but it doesn't show it when you click Activate. If you know how to get the key, that would surely be helpful. Thanks.

Jan52 it's by looking in regedit.
I do know how but that would defeat the point and would cause problems for this site.
I like this site and would not shit on my own doorstep.
I mentioned what I mentioned before as I am not the only one that knows this.
