I noticed that someone mentioned MYREALGAMES.COM over on today's game comments & burning effigies page. After skimming the flash games listed on the MRG homepage, I'm kinda surprised neither FwF nor anyone else has ever posted it here before.

It's another of the Forex group of sites that are linked to my favorite site Gametop and FreeGame something or other; though until the link was posted the other day, I'd not seen it myself. thre's some new games available so I'll definitely be exploring the site. Thanks for reposting it.
I never seem to have the time to check the archives as the forums here have steadily become buisier and buisier over the past few months.
Has anyone checked out that Wings of War game yet that I've posted about in the games discussion section? When Sky Aces was given away yesterday I thought it was the game I'd been looking for for about three years, though once my feeble mind had played it for a short time I relalized I'd been mistaken. I first came across the game after buying a games magazine and found it on the free DVD that came with it. I rarely kept those discs though, so once the computer was formatted, which I did more frequently before the giveaway project, I lost it, then I couldn't remmber the name. Well Red Neck, who mentioned the game over in the comments section yesterday has done me a great favour because Wings of War is that game. It's far more playable than Sky Ace in my opinion, though Sky ace has it's own positives, so I wont be uninstalling it. Wings of War just has better and bigger environments and the game play seems more satisfying, there's more stuff to destroy on the ground as well. :) I'll be playing it in between todays pool and Fridays Magic Farm all night tonight (If I can tear myself away from these forums, which have become my favorite place to hang these days)

Have to be honest with ya, wabbit, your installation instructions for the huge and numerous WoW files kinda turned me off. I'm looking for fairly simple installs and quick friendly GUI's. After the way SkyAces screwed with my desktop and realizing how much they expected me to remember in the way of key commands just to do some loop dee loops and buzz the church steeples caused me to parachute out of SkyAces and make a soft landing on a friendly board game.
Another serious problem I had with SkyAces was with the Pitch/Yaw control. UP arrow is Down and DOWN arrow is Up. Yikes. Maybe that's the way the yoke operates in real life, but to someone used to sitting behind a desk, for that brief time I sat in the cockpit I was plowing the ground more often than a corn farmer in spring.

Not sure what happened to the first post in this topic - in fact I cannot even remember what it was... must've been good for someone to delete it.. :P

Hi RunsageMagi,
I think the game is really worth the hassle, though from what you said in your email I appreciate that this may not quite grab you as it has done with me, still I do hope you try it as I think you’ll really enjoy playing it once you get it working. It’s one of those rare games (in my opinion) that give you instant gratification when you start playing as the game play can be really easy without being simple.
There are loads of missions as well as a campaign, that at this time I can’t comment on as I’ve not had the opportunity to play it yet. When I played the demo to death (it was a mission limited game as opposed to a time limited game), the campaign mode was locked. To be honest, when I realized it was the game I’d been looking for for the past three years (in between lots of other stuff, lol) I was a little wobbly at the knees with excitement over it. It's far better than Sky Aces without a doubt, so if you found that game at all entertaining, this one will really grab yer by the cockles; the planes are easier to control, there are more scenarios/environments and bigger maps, and it's easier to shoot your targets down, but not so easy as you’d romp every mission, as it does require skill; though the skill is easy to acquire. You can use a combination of mouse and keyboard or joystick and keyboard (and maybe all, but I’ve not thought to check that out yet). You are able to pick up power-ups (some being harder to pick up than others due to their position) that are color coded and scattered around the maps, some repair damage, some increase your planes speed, others give you bombs (to blast away at the many destructible buildings, which you can destroy by strafing too) and yet others improve your guns fire power.
The installation isn't really that hard. It was split into six parts simply so that those on dial up could manage the downloads easier. I'll list rather than write a block of text on what you need to do below. I'll leave out the update patch (in the instructions) as so far I’ve been playing the retail version (i.e. v1.0) and haven't come across any problems yet. I’m sure I’ll update it once I’ve got over this brilliant find. Anyway, here's the installation instructions again. I'm assuming that you've downloaded the six game files and the no CD patch. All of which you can download via the following address. Out of respect for the site who’s offering this game, I've given you the home page, so you'll need to go to the download page (the link is in the menu to the top left of the home page) and find the appropriate downloads, which are easy to find and are the ones at the bottom. Then download the No CD patch for version 1 which can be found just above the game downloads.) (You could also download the v1.2 patch and the no CD patch v1.2 as well as both are small downloads compared to the game files). You will need a copy of winrar to unpack the games files. There’s a link to a download of winrar on the same page as the games download.
Here's a video of the game. It starts off with the official intro to the game, and then changes to actual game play, showing you a selection of scenarios and different planes while in game, using different camera positions. You'll see how superior this is to Sky Aces just from this video, but it doesn’t do the game justice:
http://www.wingsofwar.info/wingsofwar_090104_01_wmvlow.wmv
Instuctions:
1) Create a folder on your desktop called Wings of War
2) Using winrar unzip the files to the folder you’ve just created in the sequence 1 to 6. allow any files that ask to be overwritten to be overwritten.
3) Once you’ve unzipped all six files to the folder replace the executable file labeled WoW, that looks like a set of wings with the No CD patch v1.0. (that looks exactly the same as the executable you’re swapping) You can back up the original if you wish, but I see no reason to)
4) Click on the set up file, which then allows you to select where you want the installation to be installed. Once this is done you’re good to go. You’ll find a shortcut in the Start menu programs folder called Gathering which contains the game shortcut, online shortcut and a set up shortcut, though no uninstallerI was wrong about the final installations size; it’s only 1.13GB not over 2Gb as I suggested somewhere else.(I must have had all the unzipped files in the same folder as the unzipped files)
I hope this helps to inspire you to try it out. :)
p.s.....scubaguy:, I've replied to your post over on the other thread (follow your link above). It's no trouble honestly. I just hope these instructions are okay. The files are certainly valid as I got my copy to work first time. Let me know what you think once you've got it working, or if you're having more problems..

Tried it again, but I don't think this is were you meant it to go to .What I'm getting is a selection of several sites, referring to ( Free Flight Simulator X ) a DVD.
The problem might be my browser, not sure? When you go to the site are you copying the add.from the add.bar at the top of the page and then pasting it in your post. This way you get the whole add.I only say this because from your last post it sounds as if you typed it in.
I'm interested in the site now that you bring it up.
As far as you being a bother, don't even worry about it ,you will find that folks on this site are very friendly and just as helpful.Posted 16 years ago # -
Scubaguy.

I do apoligize for the mistake and will try to be more careful in the future.I am currently try to get Wings of War put together to try.
Please try the new link and let me know what you think.I will be around for awhile yet.Posted 16 years ago # -

Anyone like good old-fashioned 2D platform games? I'm going to stump once again for the amazing, incomparable "Claw" ( http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4994 ), one of the very best games I have ever played. And it's available for free! Everything about "Claw" screams quality, from the beautiful comic-book graphics, to the studio-quality ambient sound effects and music, to the pinpoint-precise controls. The only thing I don't like about the game is that it gets EXTREMELY difficult in later stages, so much so that it loses much of its fun factor. Comprehensive cheats are available for the game, but where's the fun in that?
It's an absolute must-have for anyone who likes the genre. And if any of you have never visited Home of the Underdogs, you're in for a treasure trove of free games. The webmaster hasn't updated the site in a couple of years, but it's full of great stuff.Posted 16 years ago # -

Thanks for letting people know about"Claw".I received it years ago with a video card that I bought. My grandchildren loved that game.I used your link to check it out and found that it was the same great game.I downloaded the file and now have it up and running on my Vista Ultimate system.I put the game on compatibility mode for Windows 95 and run it as administrator. It runs just fine. Thanks for reminding me of an old favorite.Posted 16 years ago # -
There's a new game over at Gametop called "Shark Attack", a platformer about a scuba diver hunting for treasure. It is a renamed version of one that was given away here some time ago. Good game with lovely graphics, but I find its difficulty and speed are more along the lines of a kiddie game.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Thank you Donald for the lovely-horrible shark! Like him !
Posted 16 years ago # -
Donald, you have to access the downloads directly from their home page or an error message pops up that the link came from somewhere else and to let them know where that link came from.. so first go to: http://www.the-underdogs.info/index.php
before trying to access their games, and it seems they only allow one d/l a day. Of course I didn't let them know where the link did come from!!Posted 16 years ago # -
copmom, underdogs only allows one download AT A TIME. So you can download as many as you want, but only one at a time. I don't know what that has to do with Gametop, though.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Another new game over at Gametop. It's called "Desert Hawk". Problem is, it looks identical to the two "Air Assault" games they have there.
Posted 16 years ago # -
I'm an oldie over at Hotu, there is a thread that might add nice chunk of Freeware here.
http://www.the-underdogs.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45597
And a *great* site for freeware/flash games.
And my current favorite freeware game, which I highly recommend.
