I downloaded and ran the activation and setup for WWII Tank Commander. I got the activation verification, but can't find the game shortcut, just the zip file that was downloaded. What now? Thanks, Nick

I downloaded WWII Tank Commander and installed it, but just when it is supposed to be doing the online registration I get the following error message:
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Windows\Temp\Rar$Ex00.056\Setup.ExeAbnormal program termination
What does that mean? Is it something I did or is it my pc? I would really appreciate some help on this one.
Thanks, Andrea

Make sure you have enough free disk space. For example if you had the download on your C: drive - it will need to (from memory) extract a copy to your C: drive - then run the setup. so if the download was 300MB - after downloading, you may need a further 600MB to correctly install the software.
The 'Abnormal program termination' is probably computer speak for 'I'm out of disk space'.

I doubt if I have a space problem, I still have 33GB of disk space. Could it be RAM? If it is, how do check if I have enough RAM?

Anyone know how to get it OFF my system? I can't find anywhere to uninstall it. No info in the read me file. Nothing in add/remove.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Have you tried looking for it in explorer on your pc?
Posted 16 years ago # -
@ssshelbyyy... click start: settings: control panel: add/remove programs, and then scroll down to tank commander!

Maybe I should have been more clear about my directions.
Start - programs - windows explorer or right click on start then on explorer. Look in the programs folder, you should be able to find it.Posted 16 years ago # -
If you want to check out a decent game that has far better tank graphics as well as game play follow the link below. There's two demos available, Battlefield 2, which is the better of the two and a Battlefield 1942 map, which has a lot smaller download size. Both games give you one full map from the series and are sandbox style maps, so you can wander anywhere you wish on the maps. There's also unlimited play. Every game is different so it's like having a mini game.

When I go to control panel and add/remove, there is no tank commander or wwII tank commander, nothing! This unzipped right in C, its not even in program files! In the folder itself for tank commander, there is NO uninstall! I DL'd this off the mirror site, I couldn't get the regular download to work. Could that be why?

I inzipped it and it went directly to C:/tankcommander not into program files.I deleted it directly from there with no problems. It was a very slow game on my slow computer
Posted 16 years ago # -
how did you delete it from there? Did you just delete the whole file in C?

I too was unable to locate a logical uninstall for this program.
Nothing in the add/remove programs list, and even REVO uninstaller could not locate it.
I ended up putting the entire folder in limbo, (renamed folder), and then used one of my reg cleaner programs to try and find any hooks it may have placed into my registry. After carefully examining my reg and making a back up, I cleaned up some unknown but new hooks, then just wiped the folder. Probably not the best way to do it, but it seemed to work for me.Posted 16 years ago # -

"The downloaded zip file is 321Mb and the installed game will take up 1.03Gb..."
nope, 1.672 and change, by the regular link at down below.
has anyone tried permission testing? that sounds like the wrapper bombing....

My version only weighs in at 1.03Gb's. Are you sure yours is so much larger? Maybe you have the downloaded zip file saved within the games folder? as otherwise I can't explain the extra 642Mb's The original download was 321Mb, if you unzip that to get the set up file you'll just have the right amount of extra Mb's to account for your increase in size. i.e. 321Mb zip file plus approx 321Mb unzipped set up file plus the 1.03GB I mention as the installed game added together comes to 1.672Gb

ssshelbyyy. yes.. I right clicked and clicked delete and awayyyy it went. The unzipping simply placed the files in the folder it created..there was no installation as such.

actually I was assuming, silly me, that the downloaded zip had been deleted.
so: download 321 mb zip, unzip another 321 in Setup.exe so static upfront 642 unless you delete the zip. who thinks of it, though?
Run setup.exe, the wrapper drops a 321 meg .tmp file in the system temp directory and launches it. if temp's on the download partition, the load of megs is now 963 on the space-o-meter.
if the download, temp and install directories are the same partition about 2000 megs would be prudent to even consider it. with no installer disc burden.
It adds up fast.. remember the wrapper and installers are running, thus setup and the temp files are locked- where do you have *your* paging file?
I have to keep that stuff in mind doing dub-edits and transcoding- as well as speeding up file transfers by forcing big jobs from one hdd to the other.
that clear up my logic?

lol goodgotd, you lost me a little there. Thankfully I don't tend to bother about size because I have at least a tetrabyte on each computer, and on this one at the moment three 320Gb HDD's and one 500Gb HDD. I do clear out my temps files regularily and have my page file set high. Though I couldn't tell you where my paging files are kept. what do you mean? :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
if you have a pagefile+temp+dl+zip space with plenty of elbowroom, one can ignore this.
but if you have a boot drive that was plenty- before .net, 2 u's of java.... that can make a problem. I don't have a gig open on c:, so installs don't go there. swap is m:, the last fat32 partition on the slave drive, f: has temp in the middle of the master drive.
I was trying to show how that takes some doing- in less roomy digs.
