Rune Stones Quest
Downloaded fine to Win8.1 64bit and it starts to play but as it hits the …presents… it comes up saying an error has occurred and will close and will notify me when the is a solution. I even downloaded from MyPlayCity and Starsashes and same problem. Starsashes wanted me to download a BigFish game manager. Nope.
As per requested from GGotD ....I have enclosed two screen shots.
I have used Run as Adminstrator and no different. Not sure what else to try.

Umm can you see that? Not sure how else to put it. Sorry.

A quick search says that squall.dll comes from Alawar. This link, How To Fix Squall.dll is Missing / Not Found Error Messages, lists 5 "fixes" but I'd only try the first two. I'd also search the computer to find all instances of "squall.dll" and determine if you have multiple versions or copies. If one copy is corrupt then perhaps you already have a good copy.
Anyway, I'd run the registry scan first and then try re-registering the dll. If that doesn't work, then you might want to run Windows Update and see if it wants to reinstall the Visual C++ Redistributables (or manually download and reinstall the ones listed under "Add/Remove Programs").

Eternal Journey New Atlantis
I've installed the game. but the opening screen says "click to start" and nothing happens. I can't get past the introductory page. I've tried changing compatibility, and disabled the display scaling on high dpi I've tried right clicking and left clicking and even using the space bar to try to get past this, but can't Are there any other recommendations to try? Thanks

upon further checking, I've screen-captured the message I've received about this game. As much as I'd like to dismiss the message, I'm concerned. It was a notification of a keylogger trying to capture all of my keystrokes.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Hi Cherish,
Have you updated your graphic drivers? If your not sure how to do this, let me know and i'll expalain the steps. Another possibility could be the screen resolution you have your monitor set to may not be native to the game. Try temporarily changing your resolution and see if the game works properly.
All of the games given away are throughly checked by the giveaway team, using several different malware suites. There has never been a game given away since the giveaways started back in late 2006. Over 22 500 community members downloaded the game last Sunday. If there had been a problem there would have been a massive influx of posts mentioning the keylogger.

Hi WR. Unfortunately I deleted the game via file shredder. I think I may go to play city to download and try one more time. Maybe the different download will be better this time around. I wonder if the fact that I was downloading via Virtual Network if that made a difference with my game download during the giveaway day?
Thanks for your response. Yes, I agree with you, there should have been a massive influx of posts. I use Zemana Anti-logger and this is the second time I've been notified of a keylogger. First time was after I installed Norton's Anti-virus. So I just selected "block" and continued the download and didn't seem to have any further problems. (with my Nortons, I mean)
Posted 9 years ago # -
Hi WR. Well, I got the exact same message (problem) when I downloaded from MPC. I've gone to my Zemana Anti-logger, and checked the "created rules" and it has recorded both files that were blocked. The first one says it blocked the Atlantis.exe, and the second one said it has blocked the 'engine.exe'. Now I'm confused. Should I delete those rules and go ahead and see if I can use the fixes you recommended to see if I can play the game? What would you do. If you can tell me how to send you a screen capture I can do that also.
Cherish

It's working now! I did not have to delete any rules. I went to properties and adjusted the settings recommended to give it one final try and voila! :-) Thanks For your help!

I obtained Amulet of Dreams via your GGOTD offer on June 27, 2015. It installed just fine and I've been playing it for awhile now.
However, I've run into a problem. It seems in my version, there is no lens. It should have shown up via the "genie lamp" popup but it was NOT there. Consequently, I am totally stuck and unable to progress further into the game.
Is there any way I can obtain a fully-functional game with all the elements included so I can complete the game? Or might you have an "Add-on" of "fix-it" file that will update my version?
Many thanks

AFAIK the GOTD games are normally the full version -- the game's developers may not include an installer, because the installers they have already are tied to whatever game sites, but I don't think they re-write the games to be limited somehow.
What you can do when something like your problem arises, is take to Google or Bing... I typed "problem Amulet of Dreams" [w/out quotes] into the Google search box, & the 1st hit was a forum discussing problems with the game. It includes the following post, which **might** be relevant:
Ok, for those of you still stuck, there is a walkthrough up on Youtube for the game now, however I found that the game glitched at the oasis. The Lens for the telescope is next to the Genie Lamp and little jewelry box along with another item. Pick up the two objects in the open before doing anything to the Lamp or Box. If not the game glitches and you loose your chance to get the Lens. End result, start over...

Hi, I'm having issues connecting to the server, I get the error "Failed to connect. Please try again later".
This happened with the last game "Ultimate Word Search 2" and with today's game "Aquascapes".
It's the first time I've ever had any issues with Game Giveaway of the Day, I've always been able to connect, activate and install these games (i.e.: Elementary My Dear Majesty, Fill and Cross Royal Riddles, Fishdom 3, Gardenscapes, Dream Hills, etc).I'm using Windows XP SP3 with Firefox.
I confirmed that Internet Explorer was set to online and can access internet (even though I don't use it), I've added an exception to the firewall and even disabled it momentarily to try to connect, I've also disabled my antivirus and still would get the same error message.
Any more troubleshooting steps?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Novyal, have you tried rebooting your modem and clearing out your internet cache? sometimes a cookies may become corrupted and can interfere with downloading from that site.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Hi Whiterabbit-uk!
I have rebooted the modem and cleared the internet cache (history, temporary files and cookies) for both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Still get the same error :(
Posted 9 years ago # -
Novyal, when were you last able to install? If it's been a long time then confirm that it's SP3 and not SP2 because SP2 will not connect without changing the certificates (Windows Key + Pause Key will bring up System Properties).
If it's just been a week or two then you might try resetting IE to its default settings (Tools | Internet Options, advanced Tab, click "reset" at the bottom) in case something changed them.

Hi ChrisS!
The last game I managed to install was "Elementary My Dear Majesty" (August 30, 2015), even so, double-checking the System Properties it states Service Pack 3.
I had reset the IE before, but did it again and got the same error :(
Any more steps I can follow?

Download and run TCPview from Sysinternals. Open a run box (Windows Key + r), browse to the GOTD setup file, and run the setup file from the run box. You should see a new Process in TCPview called "setup.exe" and it should show a remote address as "giveawayoftheday.com". It should also have some send and received bytes. What do you see?
While you have TCPview open look for any significant internet activity. Is your computer sending/receiving large amounts of data?
You've already done everything in the FAQ except confirm that you're not using a proxy server. So:
Make sure your internet connection isn't configured to use a proxy server. One way to test if a proxy server is detected is to visit http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and check the results that will mention what type of proxy server is in use (if any).Posted 9 years ago # -
Sometimes the "setup.exe" doesn't even appear, other times it appears for a fraction of a second.
By using PrtScn I was able to read what it says:
PID - 812
Protocol - TCP
Local Address - computador.lan
Local Port - 1049
Remote Address - giveawayoftheday.com
Remote Port - https
State - Established (with green for a fraction and then red before disappearing)
Sent Packets - 1
Sent Bytes - 78
Everything else is blankFirefox.exe is the one sending/receiving more packets (154) and bytes (72.757 received and 3000 sent), then 3 different svchost.exe send /receive some packets in a range from 1 to 20 from time to time and send/receive bytes in a range from 1 to 3500.
Those are the only ones with activity.
Yes, I had checked if I was using a proxy before (in the settings), but I did it again in both Firefox and IE, while IE doesn't have any proxy in the settings it could not access http://whatismyipaddress.com/proxy-check
This may be the issue, even though I don't use IE, should I install the latest version?Posted 9 years ago # -
Since you can open a connection it's not your firewall but the send/receive seems too low for even a date check. It wouldn't hurt to uninstall/reinstall the latest version of IE that you can run, which is IE 8, because I don't understand why the webpage won't display in IE. You can get it from Majorgeeks: Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 for XP 8.0.6001.18702.
Your problem sounds a lot like "Failed to connect. Please try again later." but the problem was with the security credentials of SP2 not meeting the minimum requirements and you're running SP3.
If a reinstallation of IE8 doesn't fix it then try running system file checker (enter "sfc /scannow" in a run box). Maybe you've got a corrupted file.

Updated IE to 8.
...and it finally works! :D
Thanks for the links and guidance, guys!
Maybe you should add "Update IE to the latest version your system supports" to the FAQ?
Too bad I missed the last game, it seemed nice and original.
Thanks again! :)

@ bulkybob
There is no game today on 09-09-2015. I think you posted in the wrong thread. If you are trying to get Zoom Player Pro 10 please post on the main site, the Giveawayoftheday team will see all the complains there and hopefully respond to them.
These forums are moderated by users and we are not able to change how the daily giveaways are distributed.
We are trying to help with questions about the installation and other computer related things.graylox

Today's Giveaway of the Day nor the Game Giveaway of the Day will install. Keep getting "Failed to connect. Please try again later."
Have tried on multiple computers and different internet connections. It seems to be the GOTD and GGOTD servers are down? Can anybody confirm?
I've tried:
1. IE is online (does not have a check mark beside "offline")
2. Have tried turning off and waiting several minutes before turning on router and switches.
3. Tried multiple computers.
4. Tried a second internet connection (dial-up).
5. Deleted cookies and cache on both browsers.
Same results every time.Posted 9 years ago # -
Have you installed a GOTD or GGOTD program before/recently? Have you recently changed security software?
Additional things to try:
1) grant permission for the GOTD (or GGOTD) setup.exe file to pass through your firewall
2) confirm that you're not using a proxy server via http://whatismyipaddress.com/proxy-check
3) reset IE to its default state (Tools | Internet Options | Advanced then Reset at the bottom of the box). Confirm that IE will actually open a page. Also, you now need to be using at least XP SP3 and IE 8 or your PC won't have sufficient security credentials to connect to the activation server. These are somewhat recent changes.

Okay, I gave up on yesterday's giveaways and went to bed.
Continued my research and testing today and believe I have solved the mystery. I'm posting my results for those who are running Windows XP still yet and have the same problem. I haven't experienced this problem for several years I think (answer then was simple-IE was offline).
Okay, I had read in the GGOTD (or maybe it was GOTD- did hours of reading and research) that somebody had the same problem a while back and solved it by upgrading IE; I have still been successfully installing the giveaways since then so never really considered that to be the problem but I ran out of ideas (only thing left was possibly a part of the Internet backbone was down between me and the (G)GOTD servers but since I didn't known the actual IP of the servers to attempt pinging or tracing or anything else, I tried IE next). I had been using the default IE6 in my XP SP3. Suddenly I faced the dreaded Failed to connect. Please try again later" error. I installed IE8 (specifically IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe) and rebooted; tried again and it will now install. Apparently the wrapper has been changed and now requires a newer version of IE (IE from what I read is how the wrapper communicates with the server-remember, if IE is offline irregardless of your default browser you're using it will NOT connect). IE7 may have worked? Unknown. I had already downloaded IE8 and decided to try it first.
Hopefully that info will help somebody later!Posted 9 years ago # -
LOL, I now see ChrisS' post about requiring IE8. How long has this been ChrisS? I've been using IE6 with no problems whatsoever until yesterday! Seriously! Friday's PDF Eraser installed fine and only hit a roadblock yesterday...
