Yes, this is a good one too. I am useing Mythical Sirens.
I love my Firefox!
To bad I can't keep it as my default browser, Damn Microsoft!
But I use it for this site alot, I have both running when I'm here so I can go back and forth for things of interest.
Would love to use Firefox for my Poker site, but it only excepts IE, which crashes on that site a few times a game, lol!
I will have to be FORCED to upgrade to IE 7, I tried that crap program from Beta, to RC1, to Final! Each time I had to take it off and put IE 6 back on.
I know alot of people are getting Vista, either by choice, or it was already installed.
THEY will have to FORCE me on that one too! I like my XP Media Center, AKA XP Pro.
Well Mom, you really got me going now, ranting, lmao!
Thanks for the Link!!!!!

personally nasa night launch fits my low-eyestrain reading setup better- got 9 cats in the house, that's plenty.

i love firefox too! i was so reluctant to use it, i was so comfortable with ie, but i was in a situation where i was forced. and now i am so grateful. when i am forced to use ie now, i realize how much it sucks.

I think I am in love with this theme. The "loading" icons in tabs are little fish in bowls... it's... amazing.
Posted 16 years ago # -
jucati- i know! the download manager has several fishbowls while downloading and then when the download is complete you see a big, tired kitty, and the "page loader/timer thing" (i'm so technical), too. and i'm not sure when it happens, but sometimes the kitty on the upper right plays with the ball. i keep being surprised.

That's where I've been the last coupla hours, LIS, wild wild west, avengers, airwolf, ant and the aardvark, gilligan's island, northern exposure.... asked where banacek was.

I sent a support request to my Poker site asking why they didn't accept Firefox!
Answer: Our software was designed to run on IE since it constitues 90% of the browser market.
I don't think it's that high, lol, but I bet those 90% have Firefox also!!!!!!!!
Those who have Windows systems will have IE, but that dosen't mean they should contol the sites, unless they are Microsoft sites, ie... MSN.
When will these site learn that they are contributing to the problem of the 90% share!
I'm sure they are able to set it up both ways.

I forget where it is, but you CAN make Firefox your default browser! I only use it, unless I have to go somewhere that I need IE for and then I right click the page and click "view this page in IE".

goodgotd spot on with nasa night launch, great Firefox never thought of changing so spot on the mark. Also to make Foxy default-open control panel-programs add remove- open set program acces then set Foxy as default-I think?
Posted 16 years ago # -
sukibabe did you try one of these extensions ? even M$ downloads are possible
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/35
Posted 16 years ago # -
morrig- welcome! thank you, you are "spot on" (i'm american and we don't use that term often, but i love it and use it as much as i can) about making firefox your default browser.
to get more specific for users like me (i had to search a little to do it)-
-open- set programs access and defaults
- choose custom and voila! you can choose foxy (a la morrig) as your default browser and still keep ie enabled(for all the annoying sites that won't get with the program).Posted 16 years ago # -
Start firefox, menu: tools > options, bottom of 'main' tab (system defaults) check the box that reads "always check to see if firefox is the default browser at startup' and tap the "check now" button next to it. Job done.
I'd like to be more precise about *my* relationship with IE and its *real* simple- on the 3 of 4 computers on the LAN that are 'mine'- IE has been renamed to "Router Administration" (because the 3com 3CR858-91 1.12 firmware fix to allow entering virtual servers *only works with IE*) and the homepage is the router's login page, by IP number.
Period-dot-zip. Heh.
Also I highly recommend the NoScript extension. Google-analytics hasn't seen me for a loooong time, since I only allow the minimum permissions per site...
The exact opposite to my wife whose computer is the only one using IE as default- *because* she uses it for Pogo.com 99.9% of it's online time. OTOH, that computer also has limited (read-only) access to the other machines, and that only so I can pipe over video files to it as it's the 'play' side of the digital DVR system in place. <grin>
Yeah, there's the add-on to switch rendering engines from Gecko to IE, but I haven't needed it in a year or more.
Posted 16 years ago # -
I guess I didn't put it right.
When I open Firefox I have it set to ask me if I want it to be my default browser.
My husband is computer challenged, if I were to set Firefox as the Defaut, he would think he screwed it up, lmao!
I changed it on MY Laptop, so IE is now the back-up.
What I was getting at is that I should be able to use any browser I like!

Hi Peeps,
You know what could be really kewl?
To start a thread about our best Foxy's(à la Morrig!) Add-Ons/Themes/Extensions/SearchEngines.
Bet we could learn a lot from that.
But lets add a note for each add-on, stating what it does & why we like it, otherwise it's just a bunch of links. It's easy to do a list w Dump + Extension Manager.
We also could add the ones we have disabled/uninstalled & why.Thank you for the Links Graylox, girl ur full of surprises!!! Tell me, just how *big* is this BM Manager of yours? Wow :*)
Hi Morrig and Welcome to the forums
Goodgotd: We also have several PC/Laptops. I find it increasingly difficult to keep up w Maintenance/Updates/BkUps/... for all of them!! I feel I work for them instead of them working for me. *sigh* And expensive to keep up also!
Peace, ManuPosted 16 years ago # -
Graylox: Yes I do the right click, but hate to look at IE, as I love the layed back peaceful look of Mythical Sirens.
Morrig: Yes welcome!!!!
LeKanaw: Love your idea! I have the multiple PC problem also. Bit of a chore, but I don't mind. I just make sure my hubby is chained to His PC, lol. When he heads for THE Main ( that's what I call my Desktop that everthing else runs thru ) I hover behind him like a Mama Bear protecting her cubs!
Funkymom: " for all the annoying site that won't get with the program " Let us take up arms and do battle!!!!
goodgotd: That is naughty, lol. I would like to do something like the Jurrasic Park movie to my husbands PC!

uhh, set firefox *and* IE not to check, and start the one you want?
Posted 16 years ago # -
@Gdgotd: Yap, that's what we do.
No need to complicate stuff.
M.Posted 16 years ago # -
LeKanaw why not LaKanaw?, you know I'm having problems with American slang, so what do you mean with BM ? :
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=BM+Manager
or quite simply "bookmarks"?
Well the folder with my bookmarks is not my main problem, that's the programs folder, with it's hundreds of unused proggies ( WR: no games, they are on the H:drive, and are used - sometimes !).
Back to our beloved FiFo : I too think a special topic for it could be useful.May I ask the first question ?
You all like themes, I'm afraid they will slow down my system ?
Normally I like a plain desktop, no icons, no wallpapers, no themes; but on the other hand I like a little bit of kitsch, you know, cute kittens and so.
So - slowdown or no slowdown that's the question .
grayloxPosted 16 years ago # -
And I shall enter the lists first. <lowers visor, takes lance>
I use 2 themes (well usually one, but 2 are updated- littlefox and night launch) for:
A) maximum viewable space- I.E. small icons, all but a bare minimum of toolbars supressed unless actively in use.
and
B) since most of the laptop's use of the browser [ok, use, period] (no scoffing; I still have a lance and armor! and a sword, but the lance gets there first.) is reading ebooks, to provide a light-on-dark low-eyestrain theme.
The laptop has a locked font, gray on black text, and the NoSquint plugin set for 120%, to read ebooks in html form.
The other 2 computers allow the web page's stock colors and fonts, but I learned long ago to tweak windows to light text on dark backgrounds. It's easier on the eyes.
desktop wallpaper is generally darkish, and so are screensavers. slowdown is minimal-
Utility first!
I have 9 cats here in real life, decoration is of *no* interest to me- just ask my wife. Function over form, to the point of driving her up a wall.
Next!

Thanks goodgotd I'll try the Littlefox. That sounds good.
I miss my cats still very much, they used to sit on the monitor when they was not allowed to sit on the keyboard. Now I have downloaded quite a lot of those silly cat pictures you can find in the net. GPosted 16 years ago # -

1 person has rated this file, and it was rated 10 out of 10.
thanks for that giggle !
The white one is really a great guy - we had two graying kitty cats. I miss them.Posted 16 years ago # -
i miss my cats too. :(
lekanaw- great idea about the thread.
i have seen no difference in my computer speed since switching to the kitties and they make me so happy.
my laptops' desktop wallpaper is currently simple. i'm using a plain purple background, because i have a really cool beatles .gif that i use on top of that( it's pretty small), but once again it makes me happy. also my 3year daughter is an
- enormous
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n113/funkymom/beatles/beatles-fastanimation.gifi guess this might make my computer run a little slower, but i haven't noticed a real difference.

I'll have to post more pix to my online album, IIRC the last time I checked my catalog, since I got that c200 camera back in.. '98 I think... I've racked up ~42,000 digital photos (some are macros using a ricoh 4200- *useless* for most purposes as it has no optical viewfinder- see http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ricohmagnifierandrealtizd1.jpg) but most are cats, scenery...
That off-white lump hurts when he falls asleep and rolls off the monitor mounted on a shelf above my athlon's monitor on my head.
I'll be back.
