Blue Screen of Death with Eaz-fix

After installing perfectly I now ( sunday 27) had a blue screen of death. Eaz fix had yesterday been uninstalled by me ( manually I might add after the normal uninstaller wouldn't work.) but nevertheless Eazfix will not leave my system....

I have not used Eaz-fix. I only installed it. After the later-in-the-day comments, it became clear I should not have downloaded it as a novice...
I also should not have uninstalled it as a novice...

The Eaz-fix has messed up my boot. I've now been working for 5 hours just to get past the boot-up with the assistance of my windows disk...

I have no Idea how to fix it. I'm a novice...
well, I guess I can blame only me for being stupid.

but uhm.... Eaz-fix....: You should be ashamed with a worthless piece of software thank you very much, with that piece of shit uninstaller.

sorry for being mad folks, but losing complete access to my pc will make me mad indeed.
At the very least I expect an install and an uninstall to work perfectly.
but hey, maybe I do expect too much.

hi, freebird31...

i'm not much of a techie myself...

there were a few eaz-fix comments that said the MBR was changed...

look at the latest discussion list for the forums, scroll down to the "eaz-fix install problem" thread & have a look there ( sorry i don't know how to post links to get you there )...

the thread has a fix for the MBR using an XP disk...

if that doesn't work, maybe getting this bumped up with my answer will get the attention of someone who can help you with a fix...lots of knowledgeable people around here.........sadly, i ain't one of them...

I feel for you. This POS software royally screwed up my system. My computer still isnt working correctly. I installed and had issues. I then uninstalled it and things were fine for a while until I rebooted. Then all hell broke loose.

I emailed the company but didnt get a reply.

Lee - is the software here even tested by GAOTD before being unleashed on us? Surely GAOTD doesnt want a reputation of giving away software like this.

I have finally resolved the problem. My boot and it's help programs could no longer understand it's own commands. The HELP worked, but anything IN the help didn't... except for EXIT. well haha. Thank you EAZ-FIX.

I have trouble with things like : "MBR" or POS and even GOTD took me a while;-))

BUT, In the end I noticed that during boot-up, there was a three second flash of info that told me to press f8 for some or other pup up screen to pop up ... On which I managed to have it read the cd rom or whatever the name. My windows disk. It managed to re-write or re-install the startup part of my c disk. or something like that...

Wat was the frase...? the lord is with drunks and fools...? I definitely am the latter.

Thanks for the input guys! But uhm Lee,.. What on earth do you NOT understand about the word NOVICE...? I could do What? where? how? .... ( thanks, I managed to find it in the end;-))))) Took me two days. I guess I should ask more questions on here... Oh no, I forgot, I had trouble booting up.

Sir,
I now do not have any options to boot my Pc after downloading and then trying to remove this appalling program which has without my consent altered so many of my settings I am not able to boot to any part of my Vista Home Premium. I am not even able to use the Recovery Vista Disc to repair the damage. All, at the moment, I can do is reinstall a clean O/S which means I have lost years of Data. Thank you very much. I cannot even get to my external backup Seagate Drive.
PLEASE IF THERE IS A WAY TO GET BACK CAN SOME KIND SOLE PLEASE EXPLAIN IN DETAIL.
Will anybody from the Program suppliers of EAZ-FIX step up and explain how to deal with the mess it has created.
I too am not much better than a novice, but I have never experienced this sort of intrusion by any previous programs.
Hope you had a better day than I did.

still not a techie here, but it seems like you DID fix the Master Boot Record with your disk!...good work!...

sorry to hear eaz-fix hit you, too...
again, i'm not a techie...hope some of the forum folks can help you out...
my only advice would be don't wipe out your drive with a clean O/S reinstall...you may be able to get your data off with a live Linux disk first...

ok, techies...and those with eaz-fix experience!...any way for clements to fix this?...

I forgot to say that I am now on my old Pc using XP SP2 O/S. Yes there must be a way to get into my Vista hard drive and I will not do a clean install yet. How do I get a 'Live Linux' disc and what does it do and how do I use it.
I have been able to get to boot with a Command Prompt but do not know what to do next.
Any suggestions please.

The Eaz-fix has locked everything up using its own passwords to which I had no access and this led to me trying to exit and reboot, when I did it went into never ending cycle of trying to boot but not able to get past the screen with :-
1 Remove the last program installed -it is preventing boot up
2 Insert Windows disc
3 Using disc do a repair
Then there was the usual Start in Safe Mode, Start in Safe mode with internet connection etc.
None of these work except the last -With Command Prompt
This may be a way out but I do not have the knowledge to enter correct commands.
I think Eaz Fix should supply a fix and we should band together to encourage them to give all the help we need to get rid of this program from our Pc's because it has locked itself on my hard drive and I could not remove it.
I await with hope.

clements... do you see EAZ-FIX screen when you first start to boot up before Windows loads? If true, press the Home key and then uninstall to the one that states Installation. By the way, do you have a Windows XP install CD? I ask because that will come in handy to repair your MBR (main boot record) if you can't do the above. Then follow the directions below.

Boot from the Windows XP CD, press the "R" key in the setup in order to start the restoration console. Select your Windows XP installation from the list, and enter the administrator password. Enter the command: "FIXMBR" (without the quotes) at the input prompt and confirm the next question with a "Y" (without the quotes). Use exit to restore the computer.

Hi BillW50,
Thanks for that. I am only able to communicate using the XP Pc.
The Pc that has been locked out and not able to boot is the Vista one.Are your instructions the same for the Vista Disc.
Can I get to the Command Prompt screen using Vista CD?
Is 'FIXMBR' the same as FIXBOOT - I have been told today by a bloke in a Computer repair shop to try using 'FIXBOOT' I do not doubt that you are right but wonder if the Shop advice is wrong?

The /FixMbr option writes a Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This option does not overwrite the existing partition table. Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove non-standard code from the MBR.
/FixBoot
The /FixBoot option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that is compatible with Windows Vista. Use this option if one of the following conditions is true:• The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows Vista boot sector.
• The boot sector is damaged.
• An earlier Windows operating system has been installed after Windows Vista was installed. In this scenario, the computer starts by using Windows NT Loader (NTLDR) instead of Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

Hey Violet and Clements!

after reading all this I get a bit angry at eaz-fix again.

My problem was solved by pressing some buttons BEFORE the eaz-fix screen showed. there I could press either tab or del and I think the del option gives you a chance to press f8 and that gives you the pop up screen which will let you insert a xp or vista disk, and have the pc read that disk during boot up. then, one can do for instance CHKDSK, or, as mentioned before, do the re-write of the bootsector of the c harddrive...

or something like that ;-))

I'm still a novice, but since the re-write I have a perfectly working system, and all the boot corruptions that were there are there no longer.

Well thanks everyone but all to no avail.
I have lost everything. Nothing worked, my Professional computer repairer tried eveything to get into a bootable screen but was defeated. He even took the hard drive out of the Vista Pc and loaded it via a caddy all we got was a blue screen. It even disabled my exterior back up drive to the extent that most of my data has been locked out. More to the point is that all the Emails have gone and so have the backups.
We have had to had to install a new hard drive and reinstall Vista.
If anyone can give me details of who are behind EAZ-FIX I would very grateful because I think some form of compensation is due not only to me but to all those who have been hit.

you may want to check out http://distrowatch.com/ for Linux info/downloads/links...
there are some distributions (operating systems) that are specialized for recovery...reading up & having them handy may help in the future...
Trinity ( http://trinityhome.org/trk/ ) and SystemRescue ( http://www.sysresccd.org/ ) are usually a good start for recovery............but i do hope you never need to use them again...
if a pc repair person couldn't save your data, the Linux disk probably couldn't have helped you much either...

For Vista users:

1. According to the help manual included with the software this works with the Vista OS.

2. When I downloaded it and tried to activate using the EAZ_ZIP application from GAOTD the activation notice appeared and froze. If you have the same problem, what I did was

a. right click the file
b. select properties
c. select the compatability tab
d. check the run in compatability mode for Windows XP
e. check the run as administrator
f. select apply and close the window
g. launch the activation

I strongly urge that anyone using this software read and understand the help manual. There are many special conditions that need to be kept in mind, for example, “Once installed, EAZ-FIX blocks the use of defragmentation programs.” That isn’t a bad thing, but it is important to know.

It will take me some time to grasp the value, function and usefulness of this software so I won’t rate it at this time. Hopefully we will hear from some IT commentators about the package.

I didn't install it either, but I'm a packrat, never toss out a download or a note file- the one you toss is always the one you need.

How d'ya think I filled up a kilodisc-plus collection o' burnable CD's/DVD's?

I still have OS/2 2.0-warp server, Dos 3.3-7, Win3.0-win2k/XP and Linux stuff (plus the install discs) squirreled away.. CP/M, too.

I don't include install discs in the catalogs, the volume labels don't match the physical ones.

To uninstall roll back to the very first snapshot.Press uninstall and hey Presto!!GONE.(It did with my P.C anyway.)Xp sp2.....If still no joy see BillW50 above in the forum.Dont know about Vista though!

Hi All,
Thanks for all the help but none of it worked for me. I dpo not know if it infects Vista
more than XP but it seemed to because what ever was tried EAZ FIX treated it as a hostile program and would not let it load. When we tried to boot it went into a never ending cycle and kept reverting to the 'START IN SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH INTERBNET etc' we were not even able to get to the DOS screen until we managed to get the Windows VISTA Disc to start.
Even that was unable to do a repair, the fixmbr & fixboot did not repair the damage and in the end all that could be done was a clean install, highly not what was wanted.
Perhaps GOTD could review these programs prior to releasing them on us and maybe give a warning if they found any possible issues. I know there is general 'At your own risk' warning with everything but we were not expecting this sort of attack on our Pcs.
I still see that nobody from SHIElD has come forward with any apology/help/advice. Would it not be possible for GOTD to make it a condition that these Companies had to be available in case of problems.
