   I received a trade offer from a friend a couple of hours ago. Stupidly I clicked on the link he'd sent me. An image of the CS:GO weapon I thought he wanted to trade. turns out it was some sort of scam/spam bot that when clicked on sends out the same message to all friends on your friends list. Within a minute my son had run into the room telling me he'd received the message from me and so had a couple of his friends who were on my friends list. Realizing whjat it was i have since (around 3 hours ago) been sending out messages to everyone on my friends list warniong them not to click on the link that appears to have been sent by me.

   here's the message you should find from me (genuine message) when you open your Steam messenger:

   ******WARNING*****

   Don't open the link that appears to have been sent by me. I didn't send it. Got a trade offer from someone on my friends list, with a screenshot. DO NOT OPEN IT

   *******WARNING*******

   I'm sending this to everyone on my friends list to warn them, so wont be replying it's going to take me hours

   Do not click on the link that appears above this message. just close the messenger down.

   Just something else to be wary of in life,always some a***hole out there who is just out to cause someone some grief ...

   Your doppleganger sent me one. The link was for png file, but when downloaded, it was an executable scr file.
   When I saw that I knew something fishy was going on and I immediately deleted.
   I hope no one ran it. People online say they are being robbed of all their trade items with this scam.

   You should report the incident, maybe they can trace the hacker.

   that's a good idea, re reporting. Also I'm transferring all of my trade items to my backup account just to be on the safe side. I've replied to the post you made on the giveawayoftheday Steam group. I've cleaned the group up by deleting some spam and have set up the first invitation game for Tuesday evening (GMT). As well as posted an announcement. I'm intending to keep up to date with the group from now and will use it as a spring board to play various coop games with friends. i'm also hoping to create some sub groups where friends who are interested in playing specific coop games can play in a small group regularily. Whether it will take off is another matter.

   When the group first started we used to play most weekends and at one time we had quite a few community members playing, but we restricted the gases to only a few such as HalfLife 2: Deathmatch and Unreal Tournament 3, with no coop games that I remember. Though when i stopped running the servers a small group of regulars moved on to left 4 Dead and when Left 4 Dead 2 was released that game as well.

   Didn't re-check this thread,first I noticed about Tuesday night was this morning when switching on my pc,message was up,afraid I missed again...

   Needing more practice anyway,been too busy in garden...

   Following the incident 2 weeks ago, I didn't turn off my computer for three days; instead I put it to sleep each evening. When I finally did turn it off three or 4 days later, I could no longer boot the computer up. I ended up having to format the disc before reinstalling Windows, which was a pain as it took me several attempts before I got it installed. (Kept getting messages like 'this version of Windows wasn't compatible with my hardware', or other messages. Finally dsorted it out though and now my computer boots up super fast. I must dig out my copy of Acronis so that I can create a backup of a clean install once I've added all of the essential programs. The problem is finding it amongst the hundreds of discs and over 10 terabytes of external storage. I did create a database, but that program is also stored on the discs, and so far I've not been able to find it. Grrrr!
