Funny, DNS, I heard that not all cannucks voted to give away their rights and not all are happy at how the mounties are raiding private residences. Govts seek to disarm the populace so only they can do the plundering. An unintended consequence - collateral damage if you will - is done BY those who don't fear the law AGAINST those who blindly obey it. Predators and prey. Govt not only keeps power but expands its intrusiveness by creating more criminals out of ordinary citizens. Our forefathers understood that. Sadly, too many today believe in free lunches and magic beans. So, we have burgeoning prisons, militarized police depts yet still face a rising crime rate, the spreading gangs, standing armies of illegals and porous borders. Prohibition ain't working. Never does. FWIW - when it comes to serious issues like firearms, prohibitions or corrupt govts, not much is said tongue-in-cheek.
problem keeping games installed.

Graylox (assuming you meant the game site and not the gun banter) and my good buddy BubbyCo,
Glad you like that site. I was kinda fearful I might be offending game purists by posting about "remakes". Compared to experts like Wabbit and FwF, games are a relatively new topic for me.
Bubby, on a different note, I've lost the thread where you've been tutoring the grasshopper on HTML and where you posted the link to the "download the net" gif, but that W3Schools site is a place you might want to direct the young squire. I've been going back to it from time to time for probably 3+ years. Guess I'm what you call a self-taught slow learner.

Game purists , I think here is only one, and he seems to sleep.
The only games I had on my pc before GGODT were several patience/solitair games, mahjong and sudoku. It was Stephen's enthusiasm, which infected me. Always trying to be a pacifist (that's a hard job) I hated shooter games. Now I'm curious about all the game universe, but my pc isn't. - That thing with my pacifism, - after having left politics, I'm now looking for alternatives to work off my agressions. - By the way I learned to shoot from an uncle at the age of 6, so...----
Guys I'm writing blind, the spellchecker doesn't check anymore !!! HELP !Posted 16 years ago # -
Which spellchecker??
(My granddad @ age 8)
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox- you're doing great. i knew it wasn't spell check that made you proficient in our language.
rune- i see no sense in being a purist, at least when it comes to games (especially free ones!). i like to have fun, so if i find a fun game i don't really care if it's the most original, or the original or a shameless copy.
that html lesson thread really works. i never could understand what "allowed markup" meant at the bottom of the page.

Thank you. I feel better now. (happy dance) Purists lurk everywhere. Heck, I'm one when it comes to archery. Picture me as the french guy on the castle wall spitting at the pouf "archer" who uses modern pulley systems and scopes to hit a harmless stationary target!
Oh ho! So do you want me add my top 100 HTML tutorial sites?

Under "Post:" there is a rectangle, right ?
Into this rectangle I have to write my posts, you too ?
And in this rectangle, there lives a tiny man and checks the spell, he underlines in red all my mistakes (in spelling only); and now suddenly he underlines every word.
I think, I activated accidentally some code and the little man switched to another language .Posted 16 years ago # -
Uh, well, I have that "rectangle" (the input field), but nooooo, neither GAOTD nor my browser provides me with a spellchecker feature. Perhaps you have an add-on you don't know about, maybe from one of the recent downloads? Do you literally see a "tiny man" (an avatar, like a Microsoft Assistant) or were you speaking figuratively?
Your description is of "on the fly" spell checking. I dislike them because they slow me down (not bragging, but my vocabulary exceeds theirs), but they are great for slower typists or where the language typed is a second language for the typist. I just don't know which spell checker you have. By any chance can you see it in your Processes list?

graylox- i do know what you are talking about. i have that little man in my box (oh! that sounds sooooo bad). he is constantly telling me that slang words or certain user names (like graylox) are misspelled.
but, i'm sorry, i don't know why your man has gone crazy. i have a feeling it might be a browser issue (i use firefox). i'm sure someone will come to the rescue, now that you have given a better description.
Posted 16 years ago # -
yeah- i'm pretty sure it's a browser thing. i just switched to explorer and there was no little man.
-----------------------------------------------------
what browser are you using, graylox?in firefox if you click on tools in the toolbar, then click on options. under the general tab you should see an option to "check my spelling as i type", under that is a language option.
hope this helps.
Posted 16 years ago # -
speaking figuratively? yes
Yes it is an add-on to firefox, but it's only that .xpi file, no GUI (???)
"options" are grayed out, only activate und delet, nothing to tinker around with.
So, from now on you have to guess what I am writing. SorryPosted 16 years ago # -
graylox- i edited my above post while you were typing. see if it helps at all.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Graylox, for the record, you're doing fine without spell check. If I misspell "browser" as "browswer" one more time, I may cut my typing finger off!
Posted 16 years ago # -
no sorry funkymom, there are no options for spell checking, only the prefered language for websites.
Nevermind, I'll find it later.
Now, what's about a coffee? It's 6 oclock, who will get the bagels , oh, wait, I'm not in Amiland , here we eat Schrippen.this would be even better after this hot night :

lol-
i tried to look up schrippen. at first every link i was given was in german.
i finally found one in english. all i could gather that it is a term used mainly in berlin- for a roll.i'm a born and bred new yorker living in the southwest united states. although i'd love to try schrippen, if it's morning it's got to be bagels for me.
besides, here it's 10:30 pm.
Posted 16 years ago # -
This was lesson # 1 in "berlinern".
Bagels are not so common here, they came here for about 15 years. And you find them mostly in American coffee-shops. But they are mmmmmmhhhhhhhh with lox...Posted 16 years ago # -
Hadn't planned to look up the meaning of schrippen, but now you have me roaming around inside new bakery web sites. Not a fan of rye, making bagels from scratch is too much trouble, but oh do I enjoy working with sourdough and pizza dough. But it is late. adieu

boiled, then baked for brekkys. yep, good stuff.
One parting shot- oregon also issues cc's- how better to get surprise than if the baddy assumes the pistol on the dash out of reach is the one I'll *use*? Or is real- I have a couple *real* good look-alikes for such.
And as far as retro games, since I own (and worked on professionally for 11+ years) arcade games, pins, and other related stuff, M.A.M.E. GUI lets me play the games *I* like (aside from Q2 deathmatch online)- Tempest, Asteroids, Battlezone, Arkanoid, Time Pilot '84, Gravitar and Empire City- while the games are stuck in storage.
Retro, hah.

@graylox - your problem with the little man in the box and the different language. If you right click in the box you should get a menu - and there are two options in the menu as shown Here.
This is where you should be able to change the language used by the spell checker.
Note also if there are words that you use a lot (like names) and you don't want them treated as misspellings - when right clicking on the names as well as getting suggestions on spelling there should also be an option to add the selected word to your personal dictionary.

How do you lose a thread? Just add it to your "Favorites" where it says at the top of the Thread "Add this topic to your favorites". Then you can view in Your Profile not to mention your profile lists all your posts and the threads you started. I know.... you are too busy roasting marshmallows. :)
funkymom said: that html lesson thread really works. i never could understand what "allowed markup" meant at the bottom of the page
Glad I started it. I learned some things too. :)
And graylox... Hope you get your little man in a box fixed. (I have all kinds of things I could say....Not! Must resist.)
I will be in and out today, as I said....

delenn13.. hope all your doctor stuff turns out OK.. keep us posted.
By the way, hadn't heard anything on our granddaughter since day before yesterday.. keep checking her website, (they're in Calif. and I'm in NC - 3 hrs. time difference),so just a bit ago I called the hospital and spoke to someone at the nurses station, and she said Hannah went home yesterday. At least that's good news! I was beginning to worry!!

Silly delenn, are you drooling on your keyboard? Always wait til the Lidocaine completely wears off. If men don't read maps or instructions, whyever would you think we'd take the time to traipse over to the Favorites?
FWIW, I'm choking on RSS feeds and push news as it is. Plus, 3 pages of hyperlinks already reside in the oddly arranged User Activity dept - threads started and replied to. Okay, I shouldn't criticize GAOTD's sorting method, since mine is the famous Radar O'Reilly filing system - a desktop folder mutated into 128 subfolders and arranged by the members' horoscope signs. I need a map just to find the maps. :-)
Technically, it wasn't "lost"... lost was just a 4-letter word substitute for "forgot". "Bubby, I FORGOT where you were tutoring grasshopper and am too lazy to go track it down right now but since I know you constantly monitor my posts for links to pyramid marketing schemes... "

Hello and thanx BuBBy for those links.
That plugin is not very well documented.
I overlooked the right-click in the box.
Last night/day I got totally confused by some guys, that little man wasn't the only one.Posted 16 years ago #
