Hello all, I'm enjoying watching this thread and the dancing daughter saga! Firstly Bobby, I've got you beat.. I'm the mother of 4, grandmother to 10, and great grandmom to 5.
What is the .ext of the file you are trying to mess with? .avi, .mpeg, etc? A great website to get all kinds of info. and free files/programs for converting and step by step instructions is: http://www.videohelp.com/ I've used that site for years.. used to be called vcdhelp.com.
Anyway, we are all here to help, and hopefully to keep you from tearing your hair out. I've got all kinds of programs for converting, burning, etc. Some free, some not, but the free ones you should be able to d/l at the video help site.

Thanks for that link copmom, one of the things I've not familiarized myself with properly yet is video editing. For some reason I've been putting it off for years so now I've got so much video to transfer and sort, including several years of analogue video to copy onto the computer and then edit, that I'm sure the above link will be of great help.
Here in the UK there was an advert on the TV earlier today (well last night now) saying that there will be a booklet/CD free in 'The Guardian' that covers all you need to know about authoring videos, so I'll be getting that, despite not buying newspapers any more as I prefer to read the news from the many internet news channels as well watching it via the TV (BBC, ITN and CNN are my staples)

Rabbit.. that's one thing I've been doing for years now... all (mostly self-taught), and have had a lot of 'coasters'.. but finally have things down pat! By the way, what are you still doing up? Isn't it 3 am there in the UK??

copmom- thanks for the link, i'll check it out.
the file is .avi (not that i know what that means).copmom & bobby (and anyone else who this applies to)- I LOVE GRANDMA'S!!

Hi FkM and the other wonderful Ladies of the Forum :>)
In the "have a good giggle" department, have u read the nice story RM wrote yesterday about Women & Golf, over at this thread?
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2390There is so much to read, I suppose it got buried.
I like his rantings & general loopiness - and since he's vying for the Verbosity Poohbah title, I think we should help a fellow member ;=D
Maybe if we encourage him, he'll write some more of those. It's fun to have a real published writer amongst us!!!Have a wonderful day, Manu
PS: Any progress on "speedy hyper Baby" yet?Posted 16 years ago # -
Funkymom and all: I too get swamped following all the different comments posted in these forums, but find them all useful and interesting and feel as if I'm beginning to know most of you!!
Glad to see there are so many ladies here amongst us in this forum! *-)
An .avi file is something that can be converted to .vob files by using either of a couple of programs offered here recently. Apollo DIVX to DVD creator (Divx is an .avi file), or Ashampoo Burning Studio 6. You can watch an avi file on your computer as a movie. If you convert it to a .vob file it can then be burned to a DVD so you can watch it on your TV using your DVD player.
Another thing.. as a grandma, don't know if this is allowed here or not, but my 14 year old granddaughter has thyroid cancer. She is undergoing her 2nd surgery today, (in just a couple of hours). All good thoughts and prayers would be welcome. Here is her web site:

Thanks LeKenaw! It's much appreciated. That's where I'm mainly getting updated information from, her web site. And by my son calling me. Prayers ARE answered!
In friendshipPosted 16 years ago # -
I am pulling for you, funkymom. If you are trying to upload to YouTube, they generally use .flv files.
P.S. I just signed Hannah's guestbook. :)

copmom- i just visited hannah's site. wow what a beautiful, strong young woman! i signed her guestbook and my thoughts are with her and your family.
kind of makes my little problem even littler. i'll update later (not much progress so far, but i'm onto something).
Posted 16 years ago # -
Thank you LeKanaw, delenn13, and funkymom for signing the guest book. Still waiting to hear something this morning as to how her surgery went yesterday, etc. There's a 3 hour time difference .. she's on the west coast and I'm on the east coast. Guess I should have just called the hospital directly last night to get new information!! I'll keep checking her website to see if any updates are posted there!

Here's the latest update as of this morning from her website:
More Info
January 26, 2008 – SurgeryYesterday Hannah underwent a complete thyroidectomy. The surgery seemed to go fine and she was talking soon after. Her voice is a bit raspy indicating some irritation to the vocal cord nerve during the procedure. Also, her calcium levels diminished through the evening and she was transferred to the cardiac ward for closer observation; not uncommon. Our prayer is for her parathyroid system to kick in and start producing calcium on its own, and for her voice to bounce back without complication. She is in Room 405 at Pomerado Hospital, Poway, California. Brief visits are a welcome diversion. As of this morning her doctor stated she would remain hospitalized until Sunday.
Once again, here's her website and thanks to all of you for signing her guestbook!

That is really good news. Prayer works.
I am not expecting an answer from her because I signed her guest book. Tell her to use that energy to get well faster and that we are still thinking of her and praying. :)

Hi CopMom
I have been going back and forth from here to her site, to see if there was news on her condition. My husband and I have been pulling for her.
We are so glad to know things went well!!! :-))))
Tell her there is a bunch of ladies here keeping her in our hearts.See u later,
Manu & Hubby {{{Big HUG to u too}}}Posted 16 years ago # -
Will do delenn! And me too LeKanaw.. I've been going back and forth, back and forth. It's easier all the way around to just check there since I can't reach my son and DIL.. either he's working or at hospital. Guess I could be a typical "mom" and just call their cell phones, but figured it's best to just let them be. I'm periodically sending emails and doing a copy/paste to them of the various comments.

copmom- great news! i'm so glad that hannah will be able to go home so soon.
kudos to you for your restraint in not calling your son and daughter-in-law, i'm sure they have enough on their minds. i know it must be difficult for you, you must be bouncing off the walls waiting for info.
my thoughts are staying with you and yours. :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi funkymom.. Thanks. I've stopped bouncing off walls for now. With all the prayers, good thoughts, and good wishes.. I know Hannah will bounce back from all this and be just fine. I've put her in God's hands and that's good enough for me.
Only thing I DID have a problem with while waiting for updates, been trying to play some of the new games and just could NOT concentrate! Hey, guess what I've noticed something.. LOL (sneakily laughing).. in her guest book we now have access to each others email addies! Uh oh!!! *-)

Copmom, hope the youngster recovers and flourishes. Never filled out a guest book before, but couldn't resist putting my 2-cents in. If that doesn't frustrate the GAOTD prohibition on exchanging PMs, nothing will! hee hee BTW, I only just stumbled across your comment regarding forgetting about Image Resizer Power Toy. I get the distinct impression we are not alone in feeling completely overwhelmed.
I may have missed other such direct comments, seeing's how close monitoring of the ebb and flow of these many threads is nigh onto impossible. Gotta say that while I'm used to friendly sparring with guys on various boards, never have I so enjoyed the civility and varied interests/insights the women bring to, of all places, this game thread.
Each one I do read brings a chuckle, from Lekanaw's mango juice (that spawned sooo many follow-up jokes) to Violet's amusing dig at gossipy churchwomen to the missing Hamstergirl's contributions, as well as those by my Idol/Ldahl and others. If I ever fail to respond to something addressed to me, please don't mistake it for a snub! Most likely, I never saw it because I'm wandering down a side street without any identification.
Then again, it might have gotten lost in the shuffle. e.g. - Lekanaw, for reposting the link to my golfing accident story along with that glowing review, "the check's in the mail!" blush :-)

rm-i love the "ode" you wrote in hannah's guestbook. nice way to bring some humor, which is right up there with chicken soup in my book of cures.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Rune.. I was just about to say the same thing as funkymom about your "ode"! That was good and a novel thing to do! Spoke to Hannah last night, her voice was raspy and she said the hospital food is horrible.
They are trying to get her calcium levels up, but there might have been some damage to her parathyroid which is contained inside the removed thyroid!! If they damaged or accidentally removed that then there's trouble. The parathyroid /calcium controls everything in the body from the heart, nerves, muscles, etc. Called my brother, (he's a doctor), and he said he really has some concerns about this. He said if calcium norm is 10 and it just drops to a 9 or 8.. there's trouble!

Hi, copmom,
my best wishes to Hannah, her parents and you.

I goggled for "compress video freeware" with the following results - 200 software titles; but of course they are not all freeware, some are shareware - not very expensive. Look under the last column "License" and you will easily find the "freeware".
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/newsearch.php3?S_S=compress+video+freeware
The following link offers a You Tube up-loader as well as other tools that may be of interest for you. I found there flip and rotate rather handy as some of my videos were taken with my digital camera vertically rather than the usual horizontal position - great results.
Best of luck.

The latest on Hannah: (copied this from the website) My son's been trying to keep it updated:
http://members.cox.net/hannahandq/
January 27, 2008 - One more night in the Hospital
Hannah has not stabilized enough to bring her home yet. Tonight Mom get hospital sleep over duty. Calcium pills are not yet keeping Hannah's calcium levels at a consistent safe level. For those of you who ask, Hannah's calcium level was below 6 mg/dL, and has now raised to as much as 8.5 mg/dL but it fluctuates. No, I don't know what that means, but it is important to her doctors. All for now.
January 26th: This was added last night:
Hannah and Mom had a bit of a scare when Hannah's calcium levels dropped low enough to cause severe contractions to most muscle groups in her body. It was a painful and frightening event. Even though calcium was given by IV, it was too little too late to avoid the event. After about an hour of calcium and Vitamin D supplements, she began to relax. She got a good workout and slept the rest of the morning. Mom decided she will sleep at home this evening, and Dad will sleep at the hospital. This event was indicative of the parathyroid system not bouncing back as fast as we would like to see. Thanks GOTD for letting me post these updates!!

even if you've just been silently watching to see how long this crazy lady can keep this up, thanks for being there.
Just read the posts wish i had kept up on it.. First want to say copmom i know this must be difficult for you at a time like this . I will put Hannah in my prayers tonight (prayer is the most powerful tool for all of us).. It does sometimes take the parathryroid to kick in just hope for better results later on today for her. I am sure they are doing a great job and God will pull her through :)
Now for funkymom i sure hope you get that video straightened out and get it posted can't wait to see it in both versions.
Hope everyone is having a good night or day where ever you are:)
Posted 16 years ago # -
thanks for the link larry.
still no progress, but i've had less time to work on it. i tried to upload it to photobucket with the same speedy results.
will keep you all updated.
-------------------------------------
copmom-hope there has been some more progress, i'm keeping you and yours in my thoughts, especially that amazing granddaughter of yours.p.s. i love that hannah has provided an "e-mail loophole" for this forum!
