Dumb question, but I keep noticing links to RSS feeds.. why are they, and what are they for?

No not a dumb question. I suspect most users aren't too sure what RSS is.
There is an excellent article I found that explains this RSS stuff.
http://www.contentious.com/2004/05/04/what-are-webfeeds-rss-and-why-should-you-care/
At the moment - don't click on the links in the article (they don't go where they are supposed to) - to turn the pages - use the links at the very bottom of the page for "Next Page" and "Previous Page"
I use RSS all the time to watch multiple web pages for updates and to monitor the forums for replies to topics I am watching - without having to constantly revisit pages just to check.
Some feed readers also allow you to watch for keywords - so if you are interested in a particular topic - you can setup an alert to notify you if a particular keyword is used on any of the sites/feeds you are subscribed to.
I use FeedDemon which is (now) completely FREE - http://feeddemon.com/
BIG time saver.

RSS stands for Really Simple syndication, you can use it to subscribe to feeds and get the most recent information about whatever you want. There are many ways to use RSS, you could use Mozilla Firefox, it has a built in Feed Reader and there is Google Reader (I've heard of it but never used it). There is many other feed readers you can use also.

thanks for the info. I too had no idea what an RSS feed was. Isn't it amazing what you can learn by asking dumb questions?
