AZIO KB505U

I picked this up in case Logitech never does respond & replace my K520 keyboard -- I'll give it to my wife if they do, both because of the large print & because it's generally a better feeling keyboard than the year old Logitech she's using now.
And that's the reason for this post, to say it really isn't bad at all for anyone not demanding the firmer key action like you find with some keyboards using mechanical switches. This Azio has a soft feel when you press the keys -- just enough so that you know you pressed the key -- which is ideal for me because of pain in my hands. The feel is really quite similar to the K520, & why I bought that Logitech to begin with.
Lighting to me is not a huge issue, since I'd solved that already by mounting a cold cathode tube light [made for lighting the inside of computer cases] to my desk's keyboard tray or drawer. Many, perhaps most of the back lit gaming keyboards I've seen light up between the keys as well, which to me is more distracting, making it harder to focus on the keys with a quick glance. This one doesn't do that.
[Borrowing an idea from musicians (it can be hard to see knobs or buttons on a dark stage) I also added a couple of those lights to the front of my all black case, makeing it easier to see the buttons for the black DVD & Blu-Ray drives at night.]
Why a back lit keyboard at all? For me personally it's not what I started out looking for. I had been keeping my eyes open for a larger print keyboard for my wife, but the only thing's I'd seen so far were garish yellow affairs [if I keep this one I'll likely buy another for her]. I have read quite a few comments on people buying back lit keyboards to get around the so-called letter rot, where the decals they use for the keys go away. And in fact that's why I got rid of a Microsoft keyboard, & what's wrong with the Logitech I have now.
In that respect I doubt this Azio keyboard is a long-term solution. The keys themselves appear to be white translucent plastic painted black except for the letters. Where the decals came off the Microsoft & Logitech keyboards, that black paint could as easily come off these keys. Whether that'll happen or not is anyone's guess, but the keyboard does have a huge number of positive reviews on Amazon & over at Newegg.
One of the risks often associated with cheaper keyboards is sticking keys. In my experience [I stopped using a Logitech Wave for that reason] this can happen when/where the keys have a significant amount of travel, happening particularly with any wider keys, as the key itself cocks & physically jams. I was concerned that I'd find that with this Azio keyboard since a few people reported it, but at least with the keyboard I received, while I could be wrong I don't see how it's possible -- there simply isn't enough key travel.
At any rate I hadn't seen or come across this Azio keyboard before -- didn't know it existed until it was one of 5 items featured on the Newegg front page. SO I figured I'd share. :)
