There is an icon in the StarBurn folder in my All Programs menu to install StarWindLite. Am I right in presuming this one would not be free?

Can anyone help please, I have copied a DVD but the program tells me the ISO image is too large to fit on a standard DVD. Am I doing something wrong?

I have avi file, converted it to iso and it burned fine and fast.. but now I can't play it on the DVD player to watch on TV. It will play on the computers CD player, so I guess it's still really an avi file??

@MPeg4 - must be from an earlier install - I have no such icon to install StarWindLite.
@Tall53 - if it is a data ISO, you might need to remake it (make sure you are burning the ISO Image - which gives you the files contained within. If you just create a data disc and just burn the ISO as a file - you would end up with a data disc - with an ISO on it).
@copmom - Yes - burning the AVI file to a DVD doesnt give you a DVD movie - you need to convert the movie files into a format that a dvd player will recognize.

@Bubby - I have made an ISO image and it is far too large to fit on a single sided DVD. I have been using Plato DVD copy for a month now and it works fine. I have uninstalled this application as I am extremely disappointed with it's lack of simple features, i.e. simply copying my home DVD collection. Why do software writers not take on board that the average home user only needs limited simple features. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

I agree. Some software developers forget that 95% of users only use 5% of the softwares features - but when it comes to marketing - if you can tick more feature boxes than the competition, obviously your product "is better".
In fact I am probably only one of the four people who saw a "helpfile" and discovered that the provided documentation is rubbush. (The other three users opened the "online help" by accident - and didn't actually read any of it).

Hi BuBBy,
Thanks for your prompt reply, I wasn't meaning to be offensive with my comments I hope you didn't take offence. It was only after I read it to myself that I realised I had perhaps sounded a little harsh, please accept my aplogies. I look forward to reviewing today's offering. GAOTD is a wonderful concept!

@MPeg4
&
@BuBBy ( AKA today's marathon man ) :)i installed StarBurn to my PC ( media center 2005 xpsp2 ) & hadn't paid attention to the older StarBurn start menu folder...i just installed over the last GAOTD...
after reading MPeg4's comment, i checked the start menu folder before installing StarBurn to my notebook ( acer aspire 5610z, vista home premium )...
the notebook start menu folder only had StarBurn in it; not even an uninstall option...the new install has extended start folder menu items for "StarBurn", "Install StarWind Lite", "StarBurn Help", & "Uninstall"...
i installed the StarPort virtual drive as well, & am now also wondering if i should've installed the StarWind Lite during the giveaway...
oh, well...no problem here...both installs went fine, no crashes, no problems after reboot, no browser hijacks ( IE7, Opera, Flock )...and the quick test runs did well...very nice giveaway...
"thank you"'s all around to GAOTD, Rocket Division...and BuBBy, who may have even beat the EverNote dude ( umm...or dude-ette??? ) for the "Most Time Spent Reading & Posting In A Day" award...

That's a record I'm quite happy to see someone (or several people) take from me. :)

Hello,
Tall53, you need a program like DVD Shrink(freeware)to compress your video files to fit on a standard DVD. The program can be downloaded from AfterDawn.com, found at: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
They also have a guide on how to use the program at: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_copy_dvd_with_dvd_shrink.cfm
AfterDawn also has a excellent forum with a topic dedicated to DVD Shrink, might see you there: http://forums.afterdawn.com/
There are a few freeware alternatives for copying and burning movies, but maybe that should be discussed in the proper topic, rather than hijacking this one.
Happy burning,

Regarding my comment on converting to iso and burning and Bubby saying yes, an iso is still an avi file.. I got Apollo Divx to DVD Creator on here awhile back, and that "does" convert the Avi's to the needed VOB files! I highly recommend that one because it usually took about 2-1/2 hours to convert and burn on DVD Santa, and Apollo is much quicker! Takes about an hour!!
