   Hello everyone. Here is some info about me, my real name is Henk Van Helmond, you may have noticed I have posted a few comments on some of the recent give a ways posted by this site. I believe knowing a person and his "motives" for being on any site actually helps things like friendships at the least, and world peace at the most (or at least, one would hope for it.)

   I'm 54 years old, I have a heart condition, Multiple Sclerosis and diabetes. Having said that, its good to be alive and I know there are people much worse off than I am, so while if I have a bad day, I will say so, but moaning about my health conditions is a no-no.

   I am retired, I run 5 websites as a hobby and I probably also have an unhealthy collection of computers, from ex-ISP servers to down to a smart phone.

   I live in a small town with 1200 people in it, actually, on the outskirts of town, on what you could probably describe as a farmlet. Horses, sheep and cows are my nearest neighbours. I have three cats, 7 Hens, 1 rooster and till recently, I also had four ducks (I re-homed them as they were getting out of hand!)

   I will continue to post good comments on software but expect the odd dig at those that give a thumbs down without saying why, its a curse of mine to always support the underdog. And lastly, in my nation here, I am considered a political activist which means I'm a target of the Politicians and Government workers who hate me to death, the N.Z. Police is my number one target as they are starting to get very corrupt and pro-Government, which is a good recipe for a Police State if we are not careful.

   Hi Kiwi, my old army chum was called Kiwi (obviously because he'd emigrated from New Zealand to the UK while I was serving in the army back in the late 70's. - I also befriended the son of one of your famous biologists called Ballentine, who developed a way of calculating coastline exposure using the flora and fauna as indicators of exposure. (different flora and fauna inhabit beaches in different densities depending on how exposed they are to the daily cycle of tides and weather.

   With respect to ill health, check out THIS thread called 'Old Codger or just Medically downgraded.

   Trekkie, well, most Sci-Fi come to that.

   Glad to see I'm not the only old one here, dammit, the world is being taken over by young people, and youth really is wasted on the young.

   I don't know about the Biologist and what he did, but, I know we split the atom first (Rutherford), inevented the electric farm fence, the tranquillizer gun and refrigerated shipping... oh yes, and the Jet Boat (Hamilton). There is more, but that is just off the top of my head. Yes, I'm a proud Kiwi, even if I was born in Holland (I came out when I was 1.5 years old.)

   For many NZ has become synonymous with only one thing -- Hobbits & their ilk. :)

   We actually don;t think much of Peter Jackson anymore.

   He sold out to the studios and cost the taxpayer here a fortune.

   From what I read negotiations before the start of the last 3 films were *tense*, with Jackson threatening to shoot the films elsewhere -- when I stopped seeing those threats in the news, I sort of assumed Jackson got what he wanted, and that was gonna cost everyone else in NZ.

   I do think the films did a bit of good pointing out that there was a NZ, & that the landscape was quite remarkable. I apologize if that sounds condescending, but the amount of general, not to mention geographical knowledge of most people is severely lacking nowadays. Forget anything historical entirely. Now whether or not the PR was worth what you kind folks paid is another matter.

   As for Jackson himself, the picture painted by the media in the US for the 1st 3 films was hardly flattering. The studios were said to have taken advantage of Jackson, big time. It was also said he did not want to pay the cast, and that they really got screwed when it came to royalties, especially for DVD sales. This time round Jackson was thought of as just a part of the Hollywood studios. You can see their imprint on the films, which I don't think are going to prove as popular over time.

   Very true, and I do know what you mean about peoples Geography. I post was floating around FaceBook of a photo from an American saying he was going to Visit NZ soon, he wanted to know how it compared to "the rest of Australia"... wanted to know what language we spoke, and if there were any special customs he should know about...

   As for Jackson, he screwed over our Movie industry in that he single handedly destroyed the film workers union which was actually working very well, and the tax payer.... well, not everyone of the 4.2 million Kiwi's is a tax payer, children, for example, cost us $43,000,000 .... and thanks to him, Iron man 3 was also given millions even though it shows nothing of our nation...

   He couldn't have done it had not our Prime Minister, John Key, also been ... over powered.... by the Studios. Kim Dotcom is proof of that, the truth is starting to come out about that, apparently, the movie studio executives had a meeting with Key about the Hobbit movies, part of that deal, it turns out, involved sending Dotcom to the USA...

   I seriously hope Key loses the election on September 20th, that guy is selling out NZ big time.
