Snowy Lunch Rush - Trojan scan

I have ZoneAlarm Anti-spyware which has identified Snowy Lunch Rush as having a trojan called Win32.Adware.SnowyLunchRush.

Not much appears in a Google search for this but when I shorten it to Win32.Adware, there is quite a bit.

When I click on more info, I get this from ZA:
This program enables a remote user access to your entire computer and
everything on it.

also:
This program is a major security threat. The program includes server software
that allows a remote user to connect to your computer and have complete
access and control over it.

TomS: Did you run it through an online malware scanner such as:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Sometimes there are false positives. I am running BO Clean and it found nothing upon installation and since installation, I have also run SpyBot and Ad-Aware many times with no warnings.

No. I did not. I contacted Alawar and I contacted GAOTD about my problem. Also, I performed some Google searches. GAOTD simply ignored my request for any help or information. They did not even acknowledge receipt of my support request.

The Google searching for Win32.Adware convinced me this was an actual trojan.

Here is the reply I received form Alaware in its entirety:

So I sent this to GAOTD on their support form. The Google results and the fact that Alawar has released a new version as a response to my help request was enough for me to uninstall the infected copy and install the uninfected copy of this game.

Maybe if I had just overwritten the old copy, it would have remained registered. I don't know. As it stands now, I have an unactivated copy of this game with no way to activate it. I am very disappointed.

It is not as if I requested GAOTD to give me a free upgrade. They have distributed a trojan infected file to me and so far will not even consider making it right. The new file from Alawar is not a major version upgrade. It is simply an uninfected version of same game even though it marked on their website as an update. The new version of this game is called SnowyLunchRush_1660.exe. The version of it in my program files is 1400 (LunchRush.wrp.exe). I don't know the version of the copy I received from GAOTD since it was in the GAOTD wrapper but I would assume it is the same (File Version 1.4.0.0).

I will appeal to both companies again for some way to activate this game. If after another week or so I still don't have anything, what should I think? Alawar acted honorably. They corrected the file. GAOTD ignored me. I will report them to Site Advisor and Zone Alarm as a site that distributes infected files.

Well I have snowy lunch rush installed on my PC and working fine (can't say I play it a lot) - It comes up clean with NOD32.

I would say unless you can send that particular file that "Zone Alarm" thought might be infected to have it tested. Then nobody has admitted or proved there was any infection, other than Zone Alarm probably tripping on a "False Positive".

Rushing in to uninstall the program would be the last thing I would suggest. You would've been better installing over the top of the old version and trying that first.

Considering that it seems like you are the only person to get this file infected - might indicate either you are the only person to be using "Zone Alarm", or you downloaded a "special version" different to everyone else, or this infection might've come from something else.

Finally, I'm all for you getting another activation of the game (hey it's no skin off my nose, I'm just another user) but you are wasting your time expecting GOTD to "decide" to "hand out another license" of Alawar's software. Everything GOTD do in terms of giveaways is done with the agreement of the software company. It is not in their rights to just decide - hey lets just start handing out other peoples software without their permission.

As much as I'd like to give you my brothers shoes - they're not mine to give away. You will have to ask him.

I bought this game from Big Fish. I run SpyBot. Have had no problems! I also have McAfee.
I would try running SpyBot, which is a program I greatly respect!
It picks up on alot of things that AdAware doesn't, and is easier to use.

suki.. I too have McAfee. Sometimes that's not enough so I do periodically run the following:
AdAware 2007,
A-sqared free,
AVG free,
Hijack This,
In Control,
Registry Mechanic (comes in handy when adding & deleting a lot of things)
Spybot Search & Destroy
Spyware Blaster,
and last but not least: System Mechanic

As you can see, I'm rather paranoid about keeping my machine up & running!

Hey mom, look up, lol. I have weekly scans that McAfee runs.

But I run Bot Check Every Day, sometimes twice, if I visit my Poker site.
I run Spybot every time I download and install from this site also!

I should have put it into lines like you did!

But thanks for the heads up on the others. Do you have all the above named programs on you PC?

I have always had Spybot Search & Destroy on all my PC's, but on one I lost it on due to a new CPU that had Norton on it, then went to try TrendMicro, didn't like it, but to install had to remove Spybot, then went back to McAfee on that one too and couldn't run Spybot again! Am running SpyDoctor for now. I don't care for AdAwares new version.

Anyone who relies on simply one malware/adware scanner can be assured that somewhere along the line, they will be falsely lead into believing something is infected. I have always recommended to friends and co-workers to use at least two malware/adware scanners in addition to their anti-virus scanner. I turned off the Zone Alarm Pro malware/adware scanner after CheckPoint got their hands on it and bloated everything. I also have never updated the firewall after I had problems with version 7. Soon it will be the end of the road for ZAP on any of my systems, and I do not recommend it anymore to anyone.
