There are several discussions on this sort of thing in the forum -- browse through those threads for suggestions & advice.
Basically what happens is you use a program like 7zip to expand the .zip file you downloaded -- don't try to use Windows explorer & run setup.exe from the expanded view it'll show you. Then when you run setup.exe it will put the game's setup file into the system's memory, & run it from there. That usually works fine, but sometimes something prevents that file from being put into memory.
In the case of the game you mention, the game itself is compressed using the RAR compression format, & if that RAR file is not in memory as expected, when the program goes to expand it into the game's folder, it can give that error message since it can't find that RAR file. It would be better if the error message said it couldn't find the file when that happens, but...
The easiest way around the problem *might* be if the GOTD game installed on your PC or laptop, install it there and then move it to your friend's system.
