There's also a FAQ section in the Game discussion forums that covers this subject. I always post a link to it in my game review usually under the section dealing with problems.
sorry you didn't manage to get a copy. I'm sure it will be given away again next year.
As Idunno points out you can get it free 24/7 from places like MyPlayCity (MPC) at the moment MPC are quite aggressive in their potential to install toolbars and other annoyances such as your home page being changed from your default to MPC and your search engine being changed to Ask.com. These are easily remedied, but can still be an annoyance. The MPC installation include a short advertisement at present that shows during the installation of the game. The potential to install toolbars and home page changes now occur every time you boot an MPC game up, so you will need to ensure you uncheck all check-boxes every time you boot an MPC game up otherwise you will find changes as detailed above.
They seem to change their tactics fairly regularly. Sometimes you can install an MPC game with no toolbar or home page check boxes being present, and at other times they are rife. At the moment they are very hi-profile and if you aren't careful you will end up with the MPC toolbar and find your browser opens up to MPC's home page using the ask.com search engine (I used to use ask quite a lot back in the late 90's, but since they have employed these tactics I no longer use ask.com.
It's better to download games (if available) from Gametop at the moment because you only have to un-check the tick boxes when you first install the games and with some games there's no checkboxes to bother about at all. Once installed all you have to contend with is your internet browser being opened when you close the game down. (all these sites have the same). This is quite innocuous and can serve you in that you can check to see if they have added any new games to their inventory. MPC have well over 700 arcade games available for free and the number is growing frequently. Unfortunately Gametop rarely get new games and over the last year or so seem to have lost a significant number of the games they used to give away for free. (Probably haven't paid the developers their yearly fees for being able to offer the games for free.)
Sites to visit for free games (I can't guarantee that all of the sites below are entirely safe. The first three are fine. all of the games once installed are absolutely fine. The four site, I'm not so sure about. I seem to remember that you have to install a client or something else before you can install any of their games. There are other sites that have been posted in the game discussion forums, but I've forgotten their names as i never bother to visit them.

JenKat Games
Potion Bar is also available from FreeGamePick HERE and Jenkat Games HERE.
I may be wrong about Jenkat Games. I know at least one giveawayoftheday community member who plays games from Jenkat Games and says the games are as safe as games from the other sites mentioned above. The site certainly looks well laid out. I'm tempted to remind myself why I decided not to download games from Jenkat because if they have the same policy as MPC and the other free game sites (in that they sometimes including toolbars etc, and sometimes they don't) they may well be okay now. :)
