Hi!
I'm running XP sp.2 and it's about 1 year long that I haven't flashplayer contents in the Windows environment (I checked the Macromedia forum with no use).
I mean the applications needing flashplayer do not start at all + in I.E. flashplayer doesn't work(no problems browsing with Firefox, Opera and Safari).
As sometimes ago, thanks to a BuBBy's advice found in the GAOTD forum, I managed the "setup.msi issue" I wonder if there is any chance that the GREAT BuBBy will help me also in this case,
thanks a lot + all the best, Frank

Hi Frank,
First guess: you have the ActiveX "kill bit" set for Flash.
Open Regedt32 - navigate to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}]
If there is a key "Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400 which is 1024 in decimal... then delete the "Compatibility Flags" key.
Either way let me know...

Hi BuBBy,
nice to hear you!
The "Compatibility Flags" key RG_SZ is "0"
Probably something changed with an automatic windows update...
thanks for the feedback

Hi again!
I found the key "Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400 1024 in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27C394E-CCDA-FB1C-6D51-7D1F3F33DEE5}
(Now for me is time for a rest)
All the best ! FrankPosted 16 years ago # -
I found the key "Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400 1024 in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27C394E-CCDA-FB1C-6D51-7D1F3F33DEE5}
You should delete the dword key "Compatibility Flags".
You can then try to upgrade your ActiveX version of Flash - then test for IE and the other platforms you were having problems with.

You could always do a reset on IE and reinstall the latest flash player? It may help?
Posted 16 years ago # -
No. Resetting or reinstalling Flash or IE will not bypass the ActiveX Kill Bit. They are made of stronger stuff!
They are designed to "turn off" an ActiveX control (usually spyware or dangerous) despite being uninstalled and reinstalled. This is how products like "Spyware Blaster" work.
IIRC - You can also turn off the Kill Bit for Flash, inside Spyware Blaster - so yeah, you could do it that way also - if uncomfortable in regedit.

Hi BuBBy,
looking around in regedit I found hundreds keys "Compatibility Flags": dword:00000400 1024 and not only in {D27C394E-CCDA-FB1C-6D51-7D1F3F33DEE5},
note that the only key "0" is in {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}just the one you ask me to delete in the first time,
at the moment I'm not sure if I have to delete both the keys,or much more
BTW I tried to uncheck the box: DisableMacromediaFlash... in Spyware Baster, with no use.
Thanks for the comprehension and for the update,FrankPosted 16 years ago # -
Yes, there will be compatibility flags for most/all ActiveX controls.
You *only* care about
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27C394E-CCDA-FB1C-6D51-7D1F3F33DEE5}
{D27C394E-CCDA-FB1C-6D51-7D1F3F33DEE5} is the identifier for Adobe(was Macromedia) Flash.
Leave all of the "Compatibility Flags" under different identifiers alone.
After deleting the correct "Compatibility Flag" -
Uninstall Flash (Instructions)
Reboot
Install Flash Plug-in and ActiveX. (Instructions)Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi hi!
"Adobe FlashPlayer 9 Activex Install Information:
NewBin ERROR 1904 Module c:\windows|system 32\Macromed Flash\Flash 9b. ocx failed to register. HRESULT - 2147220473 - Contact..."In the past I already did the same procedure the new was to delete the "compatibility flags" (that now did't reappered in regedit)
Any idea? FrankPosted 16 years ago # -
This article might help - it seems the "1904" error message has been around for quite some time.
Also When trying to uninstall flash - make sure you have shut down anything that might be trying to use it - eg. Browsers, Instant Messaging, Games etc.
Hopefully we are getting a little closer to the cause. :)

Hi BuBBy,
as I wrote in the first post I already checked the Macromedia forum (I also tried more radical solutions) at the biginning I was able to run again flash player 3, 4 times and only for some days then nothing again (so when you read about a success in the Macromedia forum you never know how long was lasting)I have this new idea looking at the path in the error message I notice that windows is written lower case I don't know why in my system WINDOWS is UPPER CASE I think that the flash 9b.ocx cannot register for this reason, is the installer case sensitive?
BTW I also cannot run the ms defragger maybe for the same reason
AW I can't manage to rename WINDOWS there is any chance to do this?
I really appreciate your feedbacks, FrankPosted 16 years ago # -
File and Folder names in XP are case insensitive.
