The following list of games has been tested by me and I’ve found all of them safe to download and play. Those games downloaded from either Gametop or Myplaycity do have a small price to be paid if you can call it that. Whenever you shut down any of these games a browser window will open that takes you to the home page of either of these freeware sites, where you can browse and download a large collection of free games if you wish. This can be shut down simply by clicking on the browser windows close button (x). If you’re not connected to the internet you’ll get the familiar not connected to the internet message I’ve mentioned one game that I had problems with from the MyPlaycity site below, but apart from that one game I’ve not had problems with any other of the games I mention below.
I’ve been downloading games from the Gametop site for a couple of years and apart from the browser window has never given me any alerts or other problems. That said, if you do download any of the games I mention below, you do so at your own risk. ……… I’ll start you off with an online flash game. The following game is one of my top five favorite arkanoid games and is called Ricochet:Lost Worlds This particular version is an online flash game. If you don’t have at least one of the Ricochet series then you must play this and I’ll bet the majority would agree it’s worth having. The flash game doesn’t do justice to the full version game though. Okay it’s not full screen, but the atmosphere of the game is still there. If you like it I recommend you buy Ricochet: Infinity, or at least download the demo, which is the latest in the series and is one of the best arcade games there is around of this genre….(IMO). Besides the couple or so hundred levels you get with the game, there’s well over 20 000 (twenty thousand) custom levels made by fans of the game. You’ve guessed it; this online flash games big brother includes a levels editor, which is an added bonus.

Anyway, here’s my introduction to a fistful of decent free and freeware games: (some are a little basic, for example Chain Reaction (don’t mix this one up with garage games version that involves a purple dragon {no not Barny} and a superb puzzle. Check the demo out .....
http://www.garagegames.com/pg/product/view.php?id=7
It also has a levels editor included, which I think is disabled in the demo,
For the following ensure your pop up blocker is turned on; although for the Gametop site this isn’t necessary:

Vivid Arkanoid: Excellent for a freebie, but the paddle is a little slow.

3D Shooter v8: This is very basic, but great for whiling a few minutes away, especially at work, in between those reports you have to finish. :)

Tetri Attack I’ve seen better freeware tetris, but it’s okay, especially if you don’t have any Tetris. The guy who designed this says he is Autistic. My son is slightly autistic and I know that they have an uncanny ability to produce amazing work if they become focused, so check out his site as he also says all his games are freeware. http://www.silentheroproductions.com I haven’t had time to check the site out myself yet, so don’t know how safe the site is. Generally though it’s the free games sites that can be ‘dangerous to visit; especially if you don’t take adequate precautions.

There are loads of other excellent games from action, arcade, card and gambling to racing, puzzle and online games, from My Play City, but I’ve only checked the above and found they install and work with no problems (ie no spyware or viruses). I did get one arkanoid from My Play City called Fantasy Arkanoid that downloaded a data miner onto my system. Thankfully a previous giveaway Prev-X detected it and enabled me to delete it before any harm was done.
I would always ensure that you have all your security turned on if you start browsing freeware sites. Some such as the ones I mention and especially Gametop ‘seem’ okay, but even after trusting them for quite some time I always use a sandbox first as I’ve been bitten more than once, prior to using loads of security. A sand box is a must have (but not essential) if you intend downloading loads of freeware stuff as it will ensure that if a nasty are downloaded, it will only be on your virtual system, so it’s easily dealt with. I don’t know what I’d do without my sandbox now
You can also get some excellent free games from
Which is the spring board for Forex trading. Some of the games given away on this site are actually full version commercial games, that gametop have obviously bought a license for, much like the Giveaway team does for each game they giveaway. Rather than give you a separate link for each of the games I’ve personally checked, (and all check out fine) I’ll just list the games as all of them can be downloaded from the above link anyway as well as nearly a hundred more free games. (do you like super Mario Brothers? If the answer is yes, then follow the link above, there’s a free version to be had. There are some excellent retro games on both sites. As with My Play City, there are a lot more games to download. I trust Gametop a little more than My Play City, but don’t let the fact that I downloaded a data miner from one of the games put you off downloading and trying as many games as you fancy.
Although if you haven’t got adequate security I would seriously advise against downloading any but the ones I’ve already tested here. And if you go to any other freeware sites, such as those posted by Freeware Fan, at least download and install Ashampoo’s Site Advisor first as then you can read any untoward reports first before you visit them. Though having a red flag doesn’t necessarily mean that the actual site is bad, just the links to other sites. One very useful piece of advice though when visiting any freeware site is stick to the task at hand and don’t be persuaded to click on every link that’s thrown at you as it is often these that contain those viral code and other malware we all dread these days (okay, that may be a little strong, lol, but you know what I mean).. This is a mine field, so I’d better stick to the topic at hand. Sorry for the tangent, lol. I use one of my older computers to test out untried free games before I put them on my main computers, although I’m still part way through updating the older two. However, if you wish, I’d be quite happy to test out a game for you first if you want a particular game, but only have the one computer and are seriously deficient in security software. Just ask me here in this thread. Or email me. See below for directions, lol.
Anyway to the Gametop list:
Brixout
Tank Assault
Air Assault 3D (same as air force missions that I mention above, or maybe is the next version below, lol)
Air Assault II
Scaraball (this is actually Aztec Ball by Urse games who also made Nuclear Ball)
Real Racing
Mad Truckers
Star Ball
Pirates
Naval Strike
KGB Hunter
Amazon Quest
Real Backgammon
Silver Klondike Solitaire
Spider Solitaire
You can also get some free games that used to cost upwards of $50 as well as some that have always been free. The following I can guarantee are okay, and worth the effort to download. (Some for example Wild Metal Country and Savage are just too old to be worth the download, IMO, but if you really like that retro look, or you have an old system with a small monitor (less than 14” set at the lowest resolution), the game may actually pass for quite a good arcade game)
America’s Army…. This is around 2Gb which is a lot I know, so unfortunately those on dial up shouldn’t bother, unless you can get a friend whose on broadband to download and put it on a disc for you. It’s a first person shooter that’s been developed by the US Marines a games developer as well as the US government amongst others and is as good as it gets up to a point (I’m not including the latest shooters such as Crysis, CoD4 and MOH Airborne). It’s only has online play, but it’s a superb game and is what got me seriously into first person shooters. It’s constantly being upgraded and improved, so if you like FPS’s and haven’t tried this one, do so as I think you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a single player training level that gives you practice firing some of the weapons that are available and gives you the opportunity to unlock specific weapons such as sniper rifles, provided you score at lease 27 out of 30 for the sniper test; as well as training sessions in special Op’s and medic’s training. I played it online for nearly two years and also co-founded a clan called The Pointmen (due to one of the guys being a Vietnam Vet. We used the death card as an Avatar . We had our own servers and would play three or four times a week on private, locked servers. Something I highly recommend you try if you can find the right people to join in.
Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and GTA 2 are excellent top down car games with a twist. I bought these when they were still being sold, but they have since been released as freeware for the past couple of years. Despite their age (around 8 years old) they are still graphically okay (actually, I haven’t played them for awhile as I bought the more recent first person perspective versions of the game, so they may look a little dated now)
For those who don’t know anything about the early GTA series, you’re basically start as the lowest of the low in a gang, and you are given missions to complete, that may include stealing a particular car, or some other nefarious job such as beating up another gangs gang member or even murdering them. The aim is to become the big boss. You drive around a city (there are several available if you have the whole set, and includes a London based one, although all the others are based in America), smashing into cars, stealing any car that you can stop, or taking stationary cars. You can even jump on a train, and in the London version (not given away with these unfortunately) you can jump into the underground……..hmmm, that may be Midtown Madness 2 actually (you get a London map in that game as well) You will be chased by police or other gangs and you can and will have shootouts with them with an array of weapons that includes flame throwers and definitely includes tanks. A remarkable game for it’s time that has a cult following. I was ‘told’ to stop playing it when Callum my son got to an age that he would understand the negative side of the story line, which I agreed with as although it looks harmless, I wouldn’t recommend it to youngsters.
Trackmania Nations:
This is an excellent game that has been freeware for a couple of years now. There is a commercial version that uses the same basic track and cars, but has a lot of additional cars, track types and many other objects besides. However this is an excellent introduction to racing if you don’t own any racing games. Alhough this is more of a stunt racing game where you build your own tracks out of modular pieces, something like an high tech hot wheels game. :) It’s a fully fledged racing game though, with a twist, that I’ll let you discover for yourself. Excellent download. I actually got two copies of this on disc when I bought two graphics cards recently.
Hidden and Dangerous:
This is a first/third Person shooter, with 23 missions. It was one of the first of this kind with decent graphics to include team strategies. (Released in 1999) You can even take control of vehicles such as jeeps and tanks. Which although common now insuch games as the battlefield series and the Flashpoint series, back then was definitely something different? Despite its age this is still a cool game to play. I bough both this and Hidden and Dangerous II, which I think I’ll reinstall on my computer later as it was a fabulous shooter. I’ve not played it since installing Men of Valor on my computer about three years ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have several games that I’d like to give away as well. They are all quite old by Crysis, Stalker, Bioshock, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, and Call Of Duty 4 standards, but all still have some great playability to them. And in my opinion all are better than any Arcade game that tries to emulate them as well. I’ll list them in decreasing order of graphics and game play; the top title being in my opinion the best. They are all original versions that I bought from the Games shop, but all are just gathering dust on the bottom shelf of my book shelves, so if you want ‘em you can have them. I’d rather just give one away per person, but if there are not many takers them you may have more. So at least put a second and third choice. Just because I list them in the way I describe, it is my own opinion. Some may find the one at the bottom of the pile better than the one at the top.
1) Operation flashpoint Gold Edition which includes the expansion s Red Hammer and Resistance. (2001)
2) Marine Sharpshooter: Jungle Warfare (2004)
3) Conflict Desert Storm II (2003) You control a squad of four soldiers in this third person shooter
4) Conflict Desert Storm I (2001) as above
5) WWII: Iwo Jima (2001)
Operation Flashpoint is the precursor to Armed Assault which was release around February of this year, and is similar (but not exactly the same) to the Battlefield series, which came after Flashpoint and is easily on a par with the original Battlefield 1942 game; the maps are far more expansive in the flashpoint series, covering the whole of a large island (many square miles). It wont install on my latest systems, so I’m assuming if you have a dual core system, I wouldn't bother asking for any of the above games as I don’t think they will work. I’m not sure about all of them because I haven't tried reinstalling them, but if you do have a dual core system, I’m assuming you are a serious gamer and would have more up to date games. :)
You can contact me if you’re interested in any of the above by E-mailing me. You can find my Email in the game giveaway comments section. I definitely posted my email just before I went into hospital back in mid May of this year. So check between the 6 to the 14th of May. I also posted it about three weeks ago. I’m not allowed to post it here, otherwise I would have done. I don’t expect anything in return for these games.
