   Just ran across this, sort of a sister act to the one from yesterday, I suppose....

   "TechSmith are making an earlier version of SnagIt available for FREE (For a limited time).

   This is NOT a 30 day trial BUT the full program....

   The current version is SnagIt 8.2.3, which was released in May 2007. However SnagIt version 7.2.5 is just fine for most users...

   SnagIt version 7.2.5 is suitable for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (I have not tried it on Windows Vista).

   Opportunities like this don't come along that often. Unless you already have SnagIt, I would jump on this, even if you're not sure what screenshots you would make & edit... "

   1. Download the free trial version of SnagIt version 7.2.5 here:

   2. Go to this promotion page, complete your name, country and e-mail address and TechSmith will send you the software key to unlock the program.

   http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/ukdn.asp

   3. Just install the program you downloaded from step 1 above and then enter the software key you receive from TechSmith and you will have a fully working version of SnagIt version 7.2.5 on your PC.

   But do not worry - if you do not upgrade to version 8.2.3, SnagIt 7.2.5 will still continue to work.

   I downloaded it and when installing it it said

   The installation did not finish.
   To complete installation, please run setup again.

   It installed fine on WinXP, Niloy. Maybe it's another case of Vista doesn't like it?

   Hey Guys!
   SnagIt 7.2.5 does work on Vista - I installed it about a week ago and it runs fine, save one major thing....can't seem to get it to take shots of scrolling windows. Unfortunately, this is what I wanted it for! Have given up and am using Evernote instead, but if you want to send someone a clip from your Evernote files, they have to own a copy of the program as well.
   Niloy, were you ever able to get SnagIt running?
   Anybody remember an airline commercial with a distraught Koala bear saying "I hate Quantis!"? Well that's me, saying "I Hate Vista"......

   and i do not HATE VISTA but I do not like it either my FAVORITE OS is XP its really cool and from the peoplel that use it i got great reviews but u will eventually get used to it(NO GUARANTEES MADE)

    BuBBy - well, at least we now know why that poor koala sounded so...constipated, he at least had a good reason for it (I knew I was gonna bite it on this one, but my inherent laziness won out...)! BTW, I love koalas, used to collect 'em, stuffed that is...that was before the unicorn phase, which has since been replaced by skulls(fake), assorted bones(real), and rodents (live). Yeah, you guys have no idea just how scary hamstergirl REALLY is... ;)

    Niloy - get used to it? hmmmm......its just that every time I feel like I'm starting to appreciate its good side, something else goes wrong (with each problem more crucial than the last)! At this rate, I figure to get it under control by the time Microsoft releases its next newer, bigger, prettier, whatever OS! (who says I'm not an optimist?) ;)

    I thought I'd give this a try and compare it with the software I have been using for several years now <Strong>Capture Wiz Pro Anything that's given away free like this deserves to be checked out. The special offer to upgrade to the latest version is also an excellent one as I payed nearly $30 for Capture Wiz. These capture programs are extremely useful and I would recommend to anyone who doesn't have one download this.

    The main difference between Snagit and Capture Wiz that I can see is that with Capture Wiz Pro you get a lifetime upgrades, whereas with Snaggit it seems that you have to purchase the next version number up. At least if all you need is the basic capture tools this is fantastic.

    I used to have a rams head skull, which I used to use stuck on the top of my staff whenever I went to a fancy dress at uni as I always went as a wizard. I'd liberally spay my then very long hair with grey coloring and use some cheap magical effects like those small packages that make a bang upon hitting the floor.

    My daughter was into bones for a while and kept a very friendly rat. :)

    THIS OFFER HAS EXPIRED.

    I checked it today (3/23/08) for another forum, and the TechSmith webpage where you could register for the free serial number now politely advises that the offer is no longer available. ( http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/ukdn.asp )

    how does FastStone Capture 5.3 (last freeware version) stack up?

    IIRC I got Snagit a ways back free, but never installed it as FastStone has done all I need...

    comments to fill my info itch?
