Evernote Full or Free version?

Hello,
like many others i downloaded the Evernote version on the first page of GAOTD.

But like all the others the program didn't show any sign of being a full version. But it shows clearly the sign of being the free one, cause in the Help menu there is the voice Purchase EverNote.

The plus version sold for 49$ is the one u can buy... this in the GAOTD offer seems the free one, enabled for 60 days and then going to disable all the cool features.

Can GAOTD confirm or deny this?

Just download it again and install it.

I did download it myself and install it, didn't like it so removed it.

I just did this. Downloaded, removed, reinstalled.

Always the same. It seems the trial version not the full one. I would really like a post from GAOTD to explain what we should expect after installation and how to verify if it is the full or free version.

Lee, this is not the full version from what I can tell - shape recognition does not work, nor does the drag and drop of categories when starting a new note. There is no confirmation that this is registered and the help section speaks of an EverNote Plus which has these missing features. I downloaded and installed this twice with the same results, and other people seem to be in the same boat, its not just a few bozo's ;) who didn't read the ReadMe file. Any help?

edit: add to above - universal clipper is not available either...I really got a bad feeling about this being the full version (you know, if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, etc.)

Can someone please enlighten me about all these free programs/games. I personally think the freebie's are a great idea but I also feel that full programs are exactly that and not time limited.
Most of the software(todays for example) has a Feb 2008 closing date so this would make it Trial software....technically full until Feb 2008 but a Trial soft just the same.
My simple question to GOTD or anyone else who can tell me, is todays download going to pack in, in Feb 2008?

curiouskat, where did you see that evernote is ti expire on feb 2008 ?
I saw it nowhere and seldom encounter such a problem with gotd softwares.

Looks normal to me, but I too cannot get the drag 'n drop categories to work. If I do a right-mouse drag, it gives me a context menu to add the category, but what is in the demonstration does not work.

My "About" page shows the standard version.

OK. so it seems that there are categories, and then there are content types, templates, etc. It would be nice to see some better separation, so I can figure out where to drag to!

mmmh... my about page is showing the payed version that is the plus in fact. So it seems it is the full one.

And here is working all the things that has been said like not working :P

I have the same thing Lee has. And according to the website http://www.evernote.com/support/evernote_version.php that means I have the full version.

I'm also thinking of uninstalling this program. But I'll keep it for about a week and if I don't like it then it's gone from my computer :)

Crash, have a you been able to get shape recognition, drag and drop, etc., working? I have the same about page info as Lee.
etomm, how about you? Have you been able to get everything working?
According to what Plankje has posted, this is a "4th" version - different from the three versions listed on their website, and no where does it give an indication of whether its the paid, or not paid version.
Regardless of the answer, I thinks its terrible that GOTD has not made some sort of a statement to us. After all, they did post one early on in the giveaway correcting the download file, you would think they could respond to so many people asking this particular question. Bad form guys, and it leads to bad feelings.
Lee, how come you don't care for this one? Most of us are kind of, well, excited!

One good thing about having to wait until later in the day to install this stuff on my home computer is that it gives GOTD and/or the developers time to work out any glitches. I just downloaded this mad puppy a couple of hours ago (much easier than the comments section would have me believe) and I have the full version that seems to work like a charm. I'm still testing it out but this may be love.
I'm wondering if just un-installing and re-installing would help people who got it much earlier than I did. There are mentions of all kinds of problems, but when I downloaded it, the set-up wizard pretty much walked me though an ordinary install process.
Having said that, I'm running XP SP2, and I don't know what others are using, but I've noticed a lot of the software here is notoriously unfriendly to Vista users.
And I'd like to second what hamstergirl had to say about absentee admins. They should step up to the plate more often. Either that or their moderators should start getting a paycheck.

I'm off to the gym to work some endorphins (I'm dolphin friendly). Hopefully either I will have a chance to play further with Evernote in 2-3 hours. Post questions / solutions in this thread - instead of PM. (I'd hate someone to be waiting on me, while I am wrestling with bits of metal and gravity). I'll check back here when I arrive home again.

I won't argue with that logic, Bubby. The brave souls who dive right into these programs have been way more helpful to me (and lots of others, I'm sure) than admins or developers since day one.
For the record, comments like "Will try this out and maybe post later", "56 MB!?! Are you high?!?" and "#3: ur retarted dood" may be posted early, but do not come from brave souls.

well, its HG again - if anyone sees an appearance of the Universal Clipper, I'de sure like to know about it!
In wondering if this was my/or Vista's problem, I just downloaded and installed it on my WinXP machine (yeah, I finally got that running too) with the exact same results as on Vista. Geez, this is the first program I've been excited about in quite a while, and of course its the first time I have ever had a problem. Supposedly misery likes company, but that particular cliche' just isn't cutting it today. ;-\
Headman, thanks for the support - I'm not a GOTD basher (or a prolific poster either), but this one definitely has my fur up in a ruff. All admin needs to do is one little sentance: yay, or nay, which one is it. It's not like they don't know, right?

I can confirm shape recognition Works for me (more like shape correction, or tidy up my attempts at drawing a circle or oval - with something that looks a little tidier).

The two dates on WikiFortio for "Uploaded" and "Expires" relate to a start and end date for the file hosting agreement. You can ignore those dates, they don't apply to us. ("Expires" is probably an unfortunate choice of words when dealing with GOTD downloads)

I just tried tried the Universal Clipper, hamstergirl, and please believe me when I say it gives me little pleasure to report that it performed without a hitch. I clicked on "tools" then "launch universal clipper" and a little icon appeared in the task tray. From there I could select "universal clipper help", which will come in handy because it does a lot of stuff. But I tried a couple of basic things and it's for real.
I was hoping it was just a Vista problem. When you click on "help" and "about" to see if it's registered does it just say "EverNote" or is there a "Plus" or "Free" or "Trial" after it? I really hope you can get this working.

all of us seem to have a different version than what is listed on your link - 2.2.0.384. And yeah, I finally did get universal clipper to work, but not the other stuff. I heard back from the developer, but it was only in answer to last night's bad download - their support will probably get back to me on this other stuff, just not in time.....how are you getting shape recognition to work?

We must have been posting at the same time - the universal clipper is a real hoot (and yeah, I believe ya!)! See lots of uses for this puppy....but the about button, whether on vista or xp says the same....nada, just EverNote and underneath the version no., which is different than Plankje's and BuBBy's link. Its not that I can't live another moment without the shape/drag n drop thingy's, I just don't want this to revert to dead icon status. Grrrrrrr.........

Okay gang, got it (I think): when making a note with digital ink, click the second icon on the note's toolbar, right next to where you choose your weapon, I mean, pen or pencil - that should do it. Two down and one to go.......

re: the version number - I just copied Plankje's link - which actually came as an example on the EverNote.com website. Ignore the actual version number - they are demonstrating the text "Trial" or "Free" suffix to indicate which product license is installed.

I am also running 2.2.0.384.

The shape mode - I create a new note - Click on "Note Type" make it an "Ink Note"

Then in the toolbar underneath 2nd icon from the left is a bunch of shapes - tooltip is "Recognize selection as shapes or enable the auto-shape mode". Click it.

Then try to draw a shape in the note area. Evernote, demonstrates how crap you are trying to draw a perfect circle with a mouse, by correcting it - showing you what it should look like. Same with other shapes and lines.

[edit: But you just said that...]

The OCR stuff worked quite well too - reading my writing and converting a single word or short phrase to text.

And the final, final note is (drumroll please):

EverNote's support just got back to me, and I quote, "Yes, this is full commercial version without any limitations. If you don’t see (Trial) or (Free) in the Help>About box then it is full version."
Talk about an 11th hour (literally) rescue. Thanks everyone, I too love a happy ending. (But why did it have to be so long and painful in the getting there?) And BuBBy, if I had a firstborn, I would gratefully give him/her to you for your help with this....wait, stop running, I'm just kidding.....

FranckW thanks for taking the time to acknowledge my query!
In any download from GOTD it states two dates, on download and one is the end date. Nowhere i've spotted is the reason for the end date, so I have to assume that this will be the end of that particular days freebie, hence my question to anybody that could answer it.....surely I'm not the only one that gets two dates on the download
directions?
