Left 4 Dead:
Left 4 Dead 2 is a brilliant zombie game that lends itself to excellent single player game play but even better coop play with friends. Also there are hundreds of free custom made maps available (see link below). I purchased the first game (Left 4 Dead) after one of these free weekends. I wasn't really into zombie games but decided to check it out when it was on its first free weekend back in 2009. I played all of the single player maps and then went online to play via the general community. At the end of the weekend i decided to purchase it because I'd had so much fun playing it. Every time you play it its slightly different. The swarms of un-dead that attack you always attack in different places each time you play which helps to extend the game play. When playing with friends or the general community you can set it so only your Steam friends can join a coop game or you can just join any online game. There are also several different modes so that you can vary the game play experience. All of which extend the life of the game. I've been playing L4D2 since it was released over 2 years ago and have hardly scratched the surface with respect to the custom content. There's also mods available that change the weapons and skins for the players.
The Game
