why does it say to install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1? can't i use .Net Framework 2.0 instead?
i have 2.0 installed, and do not wish to revert it back to 1.1. is there a way around it?

Each major version of the .NET Framework is independent, sadly. Visit Windows Update and you'll see. I have both 1.1 and 2.0 installed, and for some reason 3.0 doesn't want to install.
can't they at least include .Net 1.1 runtime edition in their setup program? Some softwares do include .Net installer in their setup program.
Most software developers/distributors choose to only include the program, as the additional bandwidth costs to include the extra runtimes can be quite significant (and most users will have the runtime via WindowsUpdate or other software already).
This is also a reasonable assumption as most users only want to download the runtime just once - not with every single program they download.
